A method for the computer aided design of human machine interface animated graphical elements is provided. The method includes receiving through a user interface a selection of a graphic comprising a plurality of components in a design format. The method also includes receiving through the user interface an indication that a first component of the plurality of components is static, and an indication that a second component of the plurality of components is dynamic. The method also includes converting the first component from the design format to a static format, and converting the second component from the design format to a dynamic format. The method then exports the graphic with the first component in the static format and the second component in the dynamic format.

Method and apparatus for computer aided design of human-machine interface animated graphical elements

The present invention relates to a system and methodology providing automation services in a distributed industrial controller environment. In one aspect of the present invention, a data access service is provided that includes, sending and receiving data to and from a data access service namespace operative in the distributed controller environment. In another aspect of the present invention, an alarming service is provided wherein data values are monitored in a server component according to predetermined conditions configured by a user or other entity. If the data values are determined to be outside of boundaries as defined by the predetermined conditions, an alarm can be communicated to a plurality of other components cooperating in the distributed environment.

System and methodology that facilitate factory automation services in a distributed industrial automation environment

The present invention relates to a system and methodology providing a virtual 'namespace' architecture between client and server components in an industrial automation environment, wherein the namespace can be a structured store of logical names, instances and definitions, together with access and modification components. An Active Directory Service Interface (ADSI) family can be employed, for example, to navigate and access the namespace structure and contents. The present invention employs the concept of a 'service' to encapsulate server-side behavior accessed through the namespace. Thus, logical names can be utilized to decouple client components from the physical location and implementation of server components. Some services, known as &#x201c;basic services&#x201d;, may ignore the logical container structure exposed by an area model in a namespace. By contrast, services which utilize an area context and a set of named service items to interact with clients can be referred to as &#x201c;namespace extensions.&#x201d; Further, services known as &#x201c;context services&#x201d; may use the area model to scope and control accesses, yet not employ a service item namespace organized by the area model.

System and methodology that facilitates client and server interaction in a distributed industrial automation environment

The installing of components into an industrial computer observes a pulling paradigm in which a required resource list associated with each component is reviewed against resources in the target-industrial control device. Missing resources are obtained through a searching process that may include but is not limited to the media holding or associated with the installed component. This approach allows compatibility between different versions of the resources to be evaluated with the possibility of coexisting different version numbers being, or one version replacing the other for automatic upgrade. Collecting the resources in a available resource table allows more complete information to be provided to the user in the event the resource cannot be found and allows more complete removal of components by making an explicit attribution of ownership of each resource to one or more installed components.
