Disclosed is a transfilling device () for transfilling a liquid drug from a cartridge () to a flexible reservoir (). The transfilling device () includes a support unit () and a plunger (), the support unit () configured to receive the cartridge (), the plunger () being insertable into the cartridge (), wherein the plunger () is displaceable relative to the support unit () along an advancement direction () between a plunger retracted position, where the plunger () is in a most distal position relative to the support unit (), and a plunger advanced position, where the plunger () is in a most proximal position relative to the support unit (), wherein the plunger () is configured to push a piston () of the cartridge () from a piston retracted position to a piston advanced position by displacing the plunger (). The transfilling device () further includes a transfer cannula ('), wherein the transfer cannula (&#x2032;) is configured to penetrate a flexible reservoir septum () with a cannula outlet end () and to penetrate a cartridge septum () with a cannula inlet end () and thereby to fluidly couple the flexible reservoir () with the cartridge (). The transfilling device further includes a reservoir locking unit (), wherein the reservoir locking unit ( ) is configured to releasably mechanically couple the support unit () to the flexible reservoir () and wherein the coupling of the reservoir locking unit () is designed such that the coupling is released in the plunger advanced position.

Transfilling device

An infusion pump device and method for filling a fluidic system of the infusion pump with liquid medicament prior to infusion operation is presented. A control unit causes the infusion pump to: (a) bring a pump to an initial state; (b) switch a valve to a first state connecting a secondary reservoir to a first conduit and a primary reservoir; (c) retrieve medicament from the primary reservoir; (d) switch the valve to a second state connecting the secondary reservoir to a second downstream conduit; (e) expel the secondary reservoir contents into the second downstream conduit; (f) switch the valve to the first state; (g) retrieve the primary reservoir medicament; (h) switch the valve to the second state; and (i) expel the secondary reservoir contents into the second downstream conduit by shifting a piston to the initial position.

Infusion pump and method for improved filling of a fluidic system

Disclosed is a method for initializing a dosing unit () of an ambulatory infusion system, the method including carrying out a first priming routine. The first priming routine includes: providing the dosing unit () with a dosing chamber () having a minimal dosing chamber volume, a draining valve () being closed and a filling valve () being open. The first priming routine further includes measuring an initial reservoir fluid pressure pand computing, a first priming volume v. The method further includes increasing the dosing chamber volume by the first priming volume v, with the first priming volume vbeing computed such that a reservoir coupling conduit is filled with liquid drug substantially completely at the end of the dosing chamber volume increasing. The first priming routine further includes closing the filling valve () and opening the draining valve () and emptying the dosing unit () by decreasing the dosing chamber volume to the minimal dosing chamber volume. Disclosed are further a control unit for controlling operation of a dosing unit as well as an ambulatory infusion device.

Initialization of a dosing unit for drug infusion

A dosing unit for an infusion pump device is disclosed having a piston pump with a pump cylinder and a plunger arranged within said cylinder, coaxially arranged along a longitudinal axis. The plunger has a shaft with a thread and the cylinder has a threaded sleeve part with a thread. The two threads engaging with each other in such a way that a rotational movement of the plunger around the longitudinal axis results in an additional linear displacement of the plunger along said longitudinal axis. A separate bias force element biases the two threads in regard to each other along the longitudinal axis, such that the threaded engagement of inner thread and outer thread is free of play independent of a direction of a rotational movement and linear displacement of the plunger in regard to the cylinder.

Dosing unit for an ambulatory infusion device

At least one dosing unit for an infusion pump is disclosed having a piston pump with a pump cylinder, a plunger arranged within said cylinder, and a plunger driving part provided for transmitting rotational torque from a driving unit to the plunger without itself being linearly displaced. The cylinder, the plunger and the plunger coupling element are coaxially arranged along a longitudinal axis and rotatable around said axis in regard to static parts of the dosing unit. The plunger and cylinder each having threads which engage with each other in such a way that a rotational movement of the plunger around the longitudinal axis results in a linear displacement of the plunger along the longitudinal axis. The dosing unit also having first coupling parts associated with the cylinder and second coupling parts associated with the plunger.

A soft cannula is inserted into tissue and affixed to skin. A cannula arrangement moves within a housing and provides the soft cannula and a guiding needle extending through the cannula to temporarily stiffen it. A drive effects an insertion movement of the cannula arrangement from a first position, where a puncturing tip is pulled back relative to a face of the housing, into a second position, where the puncturing tip protrudes beyond the face, and automatically effects a retracting movement of the guiding needle into a third position, where the puncturing tip is pulled back relative to the face. The face is formed by a base plate affixed to the housing so that when the cannula arrangement is in the second position, the face detaches from the housing. A holder element is connected to the soft cannula and couples to the base plate in the cannula arrangement's second position.

Device for inserting an insertion member, or a soft member, into body tissue

A dosing unit for an ambulatory infusion pump device is presented. The dosing unit comprises a cylinder pump with a cylinder and a piston arranged in the cylinder. The piston has a shaft with a first threaded segment interacting with a threaded portion of the cylinder and can be displaced along a longitudinal axis of the cylinder by rotating the piston in regard to the cylinder around the axis. Furthermore, the piston allows for the relative or absolute determination of the longitudinal and/or rotational displacement of the piston in regard to the cylinder. In one embodiment, the piston shaft comprises a second segment provided with optically detectable markings that allow the monitoring of the longitudinal and/or rotational displacement of the piston in regard to the cylinder.

Dosing unit for an infusion pump device

According to one embodiment, a cannula assembly may include a cannula module and an inserter module. In the pre-operational state the cannula is retracted with respect to the skin-contacting surface. In operational state the cannula projects beyond the skin-contacting surface. The inserter module may include an energy store and an activation mechanism. When the energy store is at least partially discharged, the stored potential energy is transformed to kinetic energy that moves the cannula from the pre-operational state to the operational state. The activation mechanism is triggerable from outside the cannula assembly with a trigger device. The activation mechanism prevents the energy store from being discharged before it is triggered by the trigger device, and enables the energy store to be discharged after it is triggered by the trigger device to force the cannula from the pre-operational state into the operational state.

Externally triggerable cannula assembly

An infusion pump device comprising a primary liquid medicament reservoir, a pump with a secondary reservoir to retrieve medicament from the primary reservoir and to subsequently dose the medicament from the secondary reservoir in adjustable volumes (V) to a downstream conduit and a control unit to control the operation of the infusion pump device is presented. For metering the volumes (V), the control unit causes the infusion pump device to: (a) determine a maximum refill level (V) for the secondary reservoir, based on external parameters, wherein the maximum refill level does not exceed the maximum capacity of the secondary reservoir; (b) fill the secondary reservoir with medicament from the primary reservoir to the maximum refill level (V); (c) meter and convey the medicament volumes to the downstream conduit; (d) if the secondary reservoir becomes empty, refill the secondary reservoir as in step (b) and continue with step (c).

Infusion pump device and method for improved dosing

A device, kit, and method for transferring a liquid medicament from a supply container to a flexible reservoir container are disclosed. The device may comprise a compartment unit and an adapter unit. The compartment unit may have a sealingly closable chamber, arranged for housing the flexible reservoir container and for being fluidly connected with a pump mechanism. The adapter unit may have at least one transfer passage for transferring liquid from a supply container connected to the adapter unit to the flexible reservoir container, and a separator arranged in the transfer passage for separating gas bubbles from a liquid streaming through the transfer passage. The separator may be fluidly connected to the chamber.
