An anchor for use in an entangling projectile includes a head segment and a tail segment, the segments being positionable relative to one another in at least a first, primary configuration and a second, displaced configuration. A shank segment is intermediate the head segment and tail segment and a biasing element is associated with one or more of the head, tail and shank segments and is operable to apply a restorative force to one or both of the head segment and the tail segment. The restorative force tends to return the respective segments into the primary configuration after being moved into the displaced configuration. One or more hook segments are carried by the head portion and are operable to engage the person of a subject about which the entangling projectile has been deployed.

A cassette for deploying one or more entangling projectiles includes a pair of sockets, each socket being in fluid communication with a pressure source. An entangling projectile includes a pair of anchors connected by a tether, each of the pair of anchors being positionable within one of the sockets and the tether being carried by the cassette. Each socket carries a slidable piston positionable in a respective socket between an entangling projectile and the pressure source such that each slidable piston is propelled along a respective socket in response to a pressure wave generated by the pressure source to thereby expel the anchor from the socket. Each of a pair of retaining clips is engageable with an anchor and with a socket to aid in retaining the respective anchor in the respective socket prior to generation of the pressure wave.

A projectile launcher device and associated optical beam generating system includes a body having at least two sockets, each socket carrying a projectile. A power source is capable of expelling each projectile from the launcher into a projectile plane. An optical beam generating system is capable of generating a beam array. The beam array includes at least two distinct pattern beams that divergently extend from the launcher at a non-zero angle relative to one another, and a void region formed between the at least two pattern beams, the void region being devoid of any portion of the optical beam.

A system for generating an optical beam array includes a laser light source capable of generating a primary beam of light. An array generating optical element is capable of receiving the primary beam of light and splitting the primary beam of light into a beam array. The beam array can include at least two distinct pattern beams that divergently extend from the array generating optical element at a non-zero angle relative to one another. A void region is formed between the at least two pattern beams, the void region being devoid of any portion of the primary beam.

A projectile deployment system includes a projectile casing having a pair of sockets, each socket sized to carry one of a pair of anchors of an entangling projectile having a tether connecting the pair of anchors. Each of the pair of sockets is angled equally relative to a centerline defined between the sockets. One or more pressure sources is capable of generating a pressure wave capable of expelling one or more of the anchors from the sockets to deploy the entangling projectile from the projectile casing toward a subject. A controller is operable to activate one or both of the pressure sources. A sight is oriented along a target line, the target line being offset relative to the centerline defined between the sockets such that when the anchors are deployed from the projectile casing they exhibit differing flight characteristics.

A projectile deployment system includes an entangling projectile having a pair of anchors and a tether connecting the pellets. A projectile casing includes a pair of sockets, each socket sized to carry one of the pair of anchors. At least one pressure source is capable of expelling one or both of the anchors from the projectile casing toward a subject. At least one of the entangling projectile or the projectile casing can be configured such that the pair of anchors travel toward the subject with differing flight characteristics after being expelled from the projectile casing.
