A surgical instrument includes a shaft assembly and an articulation control assembly. The shaft assembly includes an articulation section that is configured to deflect a distal end portion from the longitudinal axis. The articulation control assembly includes an articulation control member and a transmission assembly. The articulation control member is rotatably mounted relative to the shaft assembly. The transmission assembly is operatively connected between the articulation control member and the articulation section of the shaft assembly. The transmission assembly is configured to transmit selective manipulation of the articulation control member to the articulation section and selectively actuate the articulation section. The articulation control assembly is configured to lock without selective manipulation of the articulation control member to thereby inhibit actuation of the articulation section and unlock with selective manipulation of the articulation control member to thereby actuate the articulation section.

An apparatus comprises a body assembly, a shaft, an acoustic waveguide, an articulation section, an end effector, an articulation drive assembly, and a locking feature. The shaft extends distally from the body assembly. The waveguide comprises a flexible portion. The articulation drive assembly comprises an actuator. The actuator is movable relative to the body assembly to drive articulation of the articulation section. The locking feature is configured to permit movement of the actuator relative to the body assembly in the unlocked state. The locking feature is configured to prevent movement of the actuator relative to the body assembly in the locked state.

Systems for tamper proofing vapor device e-liquid tanks are provided. The systems comprise tanks with one or more irremovable Radio Frequency Identification tags (RFID) tags. The tanks are used in conjunction with vaping devices that are equipped with a wireless RFID scanner and a processor. The tank may include a memory device with authentication data and a partial wired circuit segment connected thereto. The vape device may also include a wired a circuit segment connected to the processor and a battery. The two wired circuit segments are connected together physically and electrically to form a complete circuit when the tank makes physical contact with the vape device. The connection allows the processor to periodically read the memory device to ensure the tank is not replaced with an adulterated tank after the RFID tag(s) enable the heating element.

Tamper proof vaping device, system, and methods

Various methods and devices are provided for allowing multiple surgical instruments to be inserted into sealing elements of a single surgical access device. The sealing elements can be movable along predefined pathways within the device to allow surgical instruments inserted through the sealing elements to be moved laterally, rotationally, angularly, and vertically relative to a central longitudinal axis of the device for ease of manipulation within a patient's body while maintaining insufflation.

The housing portion can engage the shaft cartridge. The shaft cartridge is able to rotate and articulate the end effector, and the shaft assembly extends from the shaft cartridge. The base portion and the housing portion are able to enclose the shaft cartridge.

A portion of the articulation section encompasses the flexible portion of the waveguide. The articulation section comprises a plurality of body portions aligned along the longitudinal axis and a flexible locking member. The flexible locking member is operable to secure the body portions in relation to each other and in relation to the shaft. The end effector comprises an ultrasonic blade in acoustic communication with the waveguide. The articulation drive assembly is operable to drive articulation of the articulation section to thereby deflect the end effector from the longitudinal axis.

A method of suturing a trocar path incision in a tissue of a patient with an obturator includes inserting the obturator through the tissue such that a shaft of the obturator extends through a tissue opening about the trocar path incision and a distal tip of the obturator is positioned within a cavity of the patient. The method also includes directing the suture via a suturing feature with the obturator inserted through the tissue in order to direct the suture relative to the tissue. Furthermore, the method includes closing the tissue opening about the trocar path incision with the suture.

The circular needle applier has an arced needle and a needle driver operatively connected to the actuator to rotate the arced needle in a circular path. A joint is positioned between the proximal and distal ends of the elongate shaft. The joint is operatively connected to the actuator to selectively articulate the shaft. A bearing is on the shaft positioned distally of the joint. The bearing is operatively connected to the actuator to selectively rotate the circular needle applier about the longitudinal axis.

A surgical instrument for treating a patient includes a shaft assembly and a body assembly. The shaft assembly includes a proximal end portion, a distal end portion, and an articulation joint operable to selectively articulate the distal end portion relative to the proximal end portion. The body assembly includes a joint drive assembly, an actuator, and a joint stabilizer. The joint drive assembly is operatively connected to the articulation joint and configured to actuate the articulation to thereby articulate the distal end portion relative to the proximal end portion. The actuator is configured to actuate the joint drive assembly for articulating the articulation joint. The joint stabilizer includes a detent abutment and a detent notch configured to releasably capture the joint drive assembly and thereby inhibit articulation of the distal end portion of the shaft assembly relative to the proximal end portion of the shaft assembly.
