A bicycle of the 'mountain bike' type having two aligned foldable joints in the frame, a folding handlebar assembly and a foldable pedal. Each of the frame joints is mounted in a gap in a tubular frame member and includes two disks disposed flushly against the ends of the tubular members with smaller plugs fast in the members, and two hinge leaves extending across the gap longitudinally of the frame. A rivet on one side of the joint joins two ears on the leaves to form the hinge axis, and a headed fastener with a hexagonal socket is recessed into the thickened central portion of the upper leaf and threaded into the lower leaf to clamp the leaves together. Interlocking ribs between two ears on the other side of the joint prevent relative pivoting movement when the leaves are clamped together. The handlebar assembly has upper and lower tubular adjustment sections for both upward and forward adjustment of the handlebar, and an angled hinge between these sections. A cup-shaped coupler forms the base of the upper section and is clamped tightly against the lower section by a headed fastener, the fastener having a substantially recessed head with a hexagonal socket. The adjustment sections also have clamps with similar connectors. A representative hexagonal tool is included.

Mountain bike

A folding bicycle having an elongated handlebar assembly including an elongated post that is hinged at its lower end to swing into a folded position, and a triangular brace assembly having its apex end connected to the upper-end portion of the post at a pivot that lies along the steering axis fo the bicycle, by a quick-connect and quick-release coupling permitting quick and easy folding and unfolding of the bicycle. The base end of the brace assembly extends transversely of the bicycle for lateral and torsional rigidity, the brace bars being anchored to the frame by two laterally spaced hinges defining a common axis. Each brace bar has a section of adjustable length, and each hinge has a take-up mechanism. Three alternative couplings are disclosed, the first being a longitudinally ribbed, transversely tapered wedge-fit coupling, and the second comprising two separable bearing balls that are engageable in a bearing ring at the upper end of the brace assembly, under the control of a lever-operated cam mechanism. The third is a pivot pin that is spring-loaded into coupling engagement with the bearing ring on the base assembly, and is manually retractable to release the ring for folding of the brace assembly.

Unique quick-release latches are provided for the handlebar post, the seat post sections, the frame hinge and the pedal hinges, and the pedal cranks are specially designed for effective performance and easy, compact folding. Optional features include an enclosed front carrying compartment, a bracing cable permitting the seat post to be made of lighter materials, a rear carrying rack that extends the flat and low profile across the rear frame section, and a shopping cart mode in which the partially folded frame is held with the two bicycle wheels parallel, and an auxiliary wheel assembly stored in the mid-portion of the frame is swung out to form a 3-wheel cart with a carrying deck. Apparatus is provided which includes a laser oscillator for providing light along a first optical path, and a laser amplifier for amplifying light along a second optical path. Means for coupling light between the first and second optical paths is disposed at one end of the laser amplifier, and a nonlinear medium disposed at the other end thereof for intercepting light provided along the first and second optical paths. The laser oscillator provides a single-mode laser beam along the first optical path which is made incident upon the nonlinear medium from substantially opposite directions. A portion of the beam from the laser oscillator is coupled through the laser amplifier, which forms a probe beam that samples the laser amplifier system. This beam further impinges upon the nonlinear medium and interacts with the counter-propagating laser beams therein. A phase-conjugated beam is reflected from the nonlinear medium and is amplified by the amplifying medium providing a single-mode output beam of the laser amplifier system. A portion of the phase conjugated beam is reflected back into the oscillator and used as the counter-propagating pump beams for the phase conjugation process. This self-pumping feature allows for minimization of the pumping power required for the oscillator. The combination provides for a phase corrected, diffraction-limited beam at the output of the system. A second embodiment utilizes the amplifier medium to accomplish both amplification and phase conjugation therein.

Self-regenerative laser oscillator-amplifier

Arrangements are disclosed for reciprocatively scanning a focused laser beam across an optical frequency converting crystal while deriving an output laser beam at the converted frequency along a stationary path. An effective elongated illumination pattern is provided for the crystal which reduces thermal gradients across the crystal, while the beam density at the crystal is sufficiently large so that high conversion efficiency may be realized.

Scanning arrangements for optical frequency converters

A foldable bicycle including a frame having a seat structure and a handlebar structure thereon. A front wheel is rotatably mounted on the frame structure through a front column, and a rear wheel is mounted on the frame structure and is powered through a pedal structure including a sprocket connected to the rear wheel by a chain drive. The main frame is foldable about a hinge point in the area of the sprocket through a unique hinge release and locking mechanism. Moreover, the front wheel is rotatable through the front column in a 180.degree. arc so that the front and back wheels become axially aligned when the hinge locking mechanism is released so that a front portion of the frame section can swing about in a 180.degree. arc to become somewhat parallel to a rear portion thereof. In addition, the present invention provides a unique seat structure which can be collapsed and raised to a desired level. Moreover, the fenders can be constructed with relatively light weight and can be easily attached to and removed from the bicycle by a snap fitting action.

Foldable bicycle

An optical frequency doubling arrangement is disclosed in which the indices of refraction of light in a frequency doubling electro-optic crystal are controlled by both electric field pulses applied across the crystal and heater control pulses for controlling the temperature of an oven in which the crystal is mounted. Both the electric field pulses and the heater control pulses have a duty cycle determined by the detected optical power output from the crystal at the desired double frequency, the heater control pulses being responsive to the measured oven temperature as well. The arrangement is especially suitable for doubling the frequency of 1.06 .mu.m laser beams.

Optical frequency doubler using electro-optic crystal with improved

Series and shunt flashlamp triggering arrangements are disclosed wherein an electrically conductive patch is intimately bonded to a portion of the outer lateral surface of the flashlamp housing extending over a portion of the high voltage electrode and terminating at a longitudinal location along the housing substantially aligned with the inner end of the high voltage electrode. An electrically conductive wire connected to the patch extends along the outer lateral surface of the housing from the patch to at least the vicinity of the other electrode. The high voltage electrode defines a sharp-edged annular rim projecting outwardly from its lateral surface adjacent its inner end.
