A method for mitigating clunk in a driveline of a vehicle system during a declutch event includes determining a current torque request of a prime mover based on an accelerator pedal position of an accelerator pedal of the vehicle system. The method includes determining a clutch pedal position and determining, via a controller, a clutch pedal speed based on a change of the clutch pedal position over time. The method further includes modifying, via the controller, the current torque request to obtain a modified torque request based on the clutch pedal position and the clutch pedal speed such that a stored potential energy in the driveline is minimized by a time that the clutch pedal of the vehicle system is disengaged during the declutch event.

An expansion chamber device for clutch pedal vibration attenuation includes a cylindrical body having an inlet line integrally connected to and penetrating through a first end wall of the body. At an opposite end of the body from the first end wall is a discharge line integrally connected to and penetrating a second end wall of the body. A diameter of the expansion chamber device is approximately 3.8 cm and a length of the expansion chamber device ranges between approximately 10.2 cm to 15.2 cm. The expansion chamber device reduces vehicle and engine vibrations in a path including a clutch pedal over a frequency range between approximately 50 Hz to approximately 225 Hz.

The present invention provides an improved oil pan that acts as a radiated noise reduction product. More specifically, the invention addresses the case of a broad frequency forced response sound radiation for structurally rigid cast aluminum engine oil pans. The improved oil pan comprises a foam rubber isolating layer coupled to the oil pan and a urethane outer barrier layer coupled to the foam rubber isolating layer. The oil pan has side walls comprised of a plurality of differently-sized flat panels. The vibration isolation takes place locally on the oil pan surfaces, not at the attachments that connect the oil pan to the engine. The net result is a significant reduction in the oil pan radiation efficiency within the desired frequency range of 2 kHz and above.

Apparatus and method for forced response acoustic isolation enclosure in cast aluminum oil pan

An orifice muffler is designed to minimize the sound pressure level of noise emanating from control orifices in the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system of an automotive vehicle engine. The muffler is formed as an elongated tube having imperforate sidewalls and inlet and outlet end walls. The outlet end wall has a single orifice sized to provide a control exhaust gas flow thorough the muffler while the inlet end wall has at least two orifices of differing sizes. The inlet orifices are operative to pass the controlled gas flow and to create destructive wave interference between the flow streams thorough the muffler to minimize noise caused by turbulent flow. Various optional features of the muffler construction are also disclosed.
