A credential production system includes a credential production device and a computing device in communication with the credential production device. The computing device receives a credential production event from the credential production device. The computing device applies a pre-defined set of rules to the credential production event to determine if the credential production event violates any of the pre-defined set of rules. The computing device performs an action if the credential production event violates at least one of the pre-defined set of rules.

Notifications in a credential production system

A credential production system and methods for securely processing a credential substrate and tracking quantities of consumable material using a credentials production system and secured consumable supplies. The system includes a consumable supply and a memory that contains a state identifier that defines a state of the supply. A supply manager is configured to access the memory and set the state identifier to one of a production disabled state and a production enabled state. The system also includes a credential production device that is configured to receive the state of the supply. The credential production device is authorized to process a credential substrate using the consumable supply when the state identifier is set to the production enabled state, and the credential production device is prevented form processing the credential substrate using the supply when the state identifier is set to the production disabled state.

Securely processing and tracking consumable supplies and consumable material

A method of determining the position of a label media and printing to the label media based on the label media position is disclosed. The method includes using an encoder to track the position of the label media. As the label media advances during printing, an encoder shaft rotates with an encoder traction roller upon which the label media rides. As the encoder shaft rotates, optical reflections that occur within the encoder are interrupted, each interruption corresponding to a desired media travel distance. When the optical reflection is interrupted, the encoder sends a signal to the controller, which then sends a control signal to fire the printhead, and consequently the label media is thermally printed. The system is useful in thermal printer systems to provide more accurate position information of the label media, and consequently, more accurate printing. In this manner, with the encoder tracking the motion of the media, the timing of the printing of the label media is determined upon the actual position of the label media itself.

A thermal transfer printer wherein labeling media and thermal transfer ink ribbon advances past a print head and a platen. The platen urges the ribbon and the labeling media in close cooperation with the print head. The print head exerts a pressure on the platen to provide a platen pressure when the print head thermally transfers ink from the ink ribbon to the labeling media. The print head is pivotally mounted, such that pivoting the print head applies a continuously variable pressure against the platen.

A tape is controlled in a printing machine by advancing a length of tape through a light pathway. Transmittance of the light through the tape is measured and values are stored associated with transmittances through the tape. The tape is advanced to a start position where measured transmittance of the tape at the start position corresponds with a stored value of a measured transmittance.
