A gas turbine engine turbine section has tie rod assemblies interconnecting an inner diameter structure and an outer casing. Each tie rod has: an inner diameter end; an outer diameter end; and an eyelet of an outer diameter spherical bearing formed at the outer diameter end. A first clevis carries a spherical ball of the bearing, a shank of said clevis extending to an outer diameter (OD) end. A tensioning bolt is mated to a threaded opening in said clevis OD end whereby tightening said bolt applies a tension to said rod. A radial span between a center of the outer diameter spherical bearing and an inner diameter surface of the outer casing is at least 50% greater than that between an outer diameter (OD) surface of the outer ring and the center.

Inspection systems for a gas turbine engine () are provided. The inspection systems may comprise an inspection port (), a bore-scope plug (), a seal seat () and a seal (A/B). The bore-scope plug () may comprise a shaft (A/B) having a uniform or stepped profile. The seal (A/B) may be a multi-part seal (A) or a piston seal (B). Moreover, the bore-scope plug () may be configured to support, carry, and/or stabilize one or more internal structures such as, for example, a mid-turbine frame vane. In various embodiments, the inspection systems described herein may provide for increased inspection efficiency during development, qualification, maintenance, and event inspections.

A borescope plug configuration is disclosed. The borescope plug configuration comprises an inspection path defined through a bore in a first engine structure, a second engine structure, and an opening into the gas path of an engine. The borescope plug configuration further comprises a removable plug for sealing the inspection path. The removable plug is adapted to couple the first engine structure to the second engine structure.

A tie-rod nut includes a nut base that extends between a first nut end and a second nut end, and a nut flange that extends radially outwards from the nut base at the first nut end. The nut base includes a nut bore with a threaded bore region that extends axially from the second nut end towards the first nut end. The nut flange includes a plurality of mounting apertures that are arranged circumferentially around the nut base. The nut flange may be connected to a substrate by a fastener that extends through a first one of the plurality of mounting apertures.

A cooling apparatus bifurcates and regulates cooling airflow provided to a mid-turbine frame. The cooling apparatus includes a flow metering tube and a metering plate. The flow metering tube includes a top portion and a tube portion, wherein the top portion includes a first central aperture that directs a first cooling airflow into the tube portion and a first plurality of apertures located circumferentially around the central aperture that directs a second cooling airflow to a portion outside the tube portion. The metering plate is located on the top portion of the flow metering tube, wherein the metering plate includes a second central aperture aligned with the central aperture of the flow metering tube and a second plurality of apertures located circumferentially around the central aperture, wherein a size of the second central aperture meters the first cooling airflow and a size and number of the second plurality of apertures meters the second cooling airflow.

Cooling apparatus for a mid-turbine frame

A gas turbine engine includes bound assemblies with an inner diameter ring, struts, and an outer diameter ring. The strut is connected to the inner diameter ring and extends radially outward therefrom to connect to the outer diameter ring. A strain relief feature is disposed adjacent to or at the connection between the strut and the inner diameter ring and/or the outer diameter ring. The strain relief feature lengthens the arc segment of fillet curvature. For a constant thermal punch load, the lengthened arc segment of fillet curvature results in a decreased maximum strain in the bound assembly.
