A mesh network includes domain(s) of multiple nodes interconnected through links and in which there are gateway(s) connecting a domain to another network. The domain(s), their multiple nodes, and their links are part of a topology. A set of primary and backup routing paths, each including an ST that includes the selected gateway and route to that selected gateway for nodes in the domain, for a selected one of the gateway(s) is accessed or determined. Schedule(s) to be used by node(s) in the mesh network over one or more scheduling cycles are accessed or determined. Based on status of link(s) between nodes and on the schedule(s), switching is performed to a selected one of the primary or backup routing paths for the selected gateway. Routing in the mesh network is caused to be modified based on the selected routing path. Information is sent to nodes for the paths and schedules.

System and method to dynamically redistribute timing and synchronization in a packet switched network

Systems and techniques for delivering timing over packet (ToP) data over a wireless hop. Timing information is synchronized between a master and a slave node of a wireless hop. When a ToP packet arrives at the master node, an arrival time of the packet at an ingress point of the master node is noted and stored as a timestamp. The packet is transmitted over a wireless link to the slave node. The packet makes its way to an egress point of the slave node, and the residence time of the packet in the wireless link is calculated and stored. The residence time of the packet is the time between the packet's arrival at the ingress point of the master and the egress point of the slave. The packet is then transmitted out of the egress point of the slave.

A system and method for managing a multihop relay station in a wireless wide-area communication network includes determining whether any mobile stations are being served by the relay station. If not, inactivating the relay station by; inactivating transmitted signals from the relay station, leaving a receiver active, and monitoring signals on the active receiver. Whereafter, estimating a channel quality of at least one mobile station from the monitored signals by the inactive relay station, and activating the relay station in response to the monitored signals indicating that a channel quality of the mobile station will improve when being served by the relay station.
