An access control system and methods according to at least one embodiment leverage wireless access credentials to allow a user to securely gain access to a secured area using his or her mobile device. As such, a credentialed mobile device may permit access to the secured area without requiring a real-time connection to a credential management system and/or an administrative system.

Wireless access credential system

A peripheral controller for an access control system according to one embodiment includes a reader interface, a Power over Ethernet circuit, a processor, and a memory. The reader interface is configured to be communicatively coupled to at least one credential reader. The Power over Ethernet (PoE) circuit is configured to receive power over an Ethernet cable for powering the peripheral controller. The memory includes a plurality of instructions stored thereon that, in response to execution by the processor, causes the peripheral controller to analyze credential data received via the reader interface make an access control decision based on the analyzed credential data.

An access control system including a data storage device configured to store a master credential database having a plurality of master identifiers and master status codes, an access control device having a local credential database including a plurality of local identifiers, and an electronic credential including a credential identifier. The access control device is configured to receive the credential identifier from the electronic credential, to determine whether to perform an update based upon the local status code associated with the local identifier of the credential identifier, and to update data in the local credential database with data in the master credential database by way of communication with the data storage device in response to the determining.

Credential driving an automatic lock update

A warning system that warns an operator of an impending collision with an object while the operator is backing up. The system scans behind the vehicle with an emitter/sensor system and determines a time-to-collision with the object based on distance to the object and vehicle speed. Based upon the time-to-collision, a simple combination of visual and audio signals is designed to let the operator known of the imminency of a collision with the object so that the operator may react and make appropriate countermeasures.

Vehicle back-up aid system

An object sensing system is capable of masking certain detected objects such that the system does not provide an alarm. Initially, a projected path of the vehicle is determined by using a current steering angle of the vehicle. Next, a desired warning distance is determined based upon the current steering angle. Then, a current distance to a sensed object, as derived from an object sensor, is determined. Finally, an alarm is provided only if the sensed object is within the desired warning distance.
