Disclosed are methods and devices for varying functionality of a wearable computing device. An example device includes a first sensor and a second sensor. An example method includes, while a device is operating in a first state, receiving an indication of a touch input at the first sensor. The second sensor is configured in an idle mode based on the device operating in the first state. The method further includes, in response to receiving the indication of the touch input, triggering the second sensor to operate in an active mode and receiving data from the second sensor. The method further includes determining, based on the data, whether the device is being worn.

On-head detection with touch sensing and eye sensing

Attenuation of a wireless signal, particularly a short range wireless pairing signal, is accommodated immediately and automatically by a device in response to detection of presence of an object. When a user provides input to the device, such as by touching the device with a finger, presence of the finger may interfere with a signal emitted from the device. To accommodate for such interference, the device may immediately increase its transmission power upon detection of the finger, without waiting for link quality measurements.

Adjust transmit power based on touch detection

A sensor cord construction to prevent capacitance variation is described herein. A sensor may be connected to a controller via a cord that includes a first cable and a second cable. The first cable includes first shield wires that are twisted around the first cable in a first direction, and the second cable includes second shield wires that are twisted around the second cable in a second direction that is opposite the first direction. When the cord is twisted, one of the first or second cables may provide a positive capacitance variation, while the other of the first or second cables may provide a negative capacitance variation in an amount that is directly proportional to the positive capacitance variation. Thus, the controller detects a minimum capacitance variation, when the cord is twisted, due to the capacitance variation of the first cable and the second cable canceling each other out.

An example system is described that includes a head-mountable device (HMD) with a bone conduction transducer that transmits an audio signal and an inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensor connected to the bone conduction transducer. The IMU sensor detects movement of the HMD due to vibrations of the bone conduction transducer transmitting the audio signal and the IMU sensor provides outputs. The system also includes one or more processors that receive the outputs of the IMU sensor and compare the outputs of the IMU sensor with at least one reference signal. The at least one reference signal is based on the audio signal that is transmitted. The one or more processors output an HMD fitting parameter based on the comparison.

Examples of methods and systems for providing calibration for eye gesture recognition are described. In some examples, calibration can be executed via a head-mountable device. A method for calibration of a system may account for changes in orientation of the head-mountable device, update recognition of the eye gestures, or increase efficiency of the system, for example. The head-mountable device may be configured to receive signals indicative of eye gestures from an eye gesture-detection system and in response to receiving a second command confirming that the signal is indicative of an eye gesture command, to make adjustments to the eye gesture recognition system and/or the reference signals. The head-mountable device may calibrate an eye gesture recognition system via implicit or explicit calibration, for example.

A server system stores media library associated with a user. The media library includes at least one media file. The server system determines whether the media file is stored on a second computing device that is able to send the media file to the first computing device across a local network connecting the first computing device and the second computing device. If the determination indicates that the media file is stored on a second computing device that is able to send the stored media file to the first computing device across a local network connecting the first computing device and the second computing device, the server system sends causes the second computing device to send the media file to the first computing device across the local network such that the first computing device is able to output the media file to the user.

Media file access

Examples of methods and systems for using eye gesture duration to provide calibration for eye gesture detection are described. In some examples, calibration can be executed using a head-mountable device. The head-mountable device may be configured to determine a duration range indicative of an eye gesture and receive a plurality of reference signals indicative of the eye gesture. The plurality of reference signals may comprise duration information indicative of a plurality of reference durations of the eye gesture. The head-mountable device may determine, based on the plurality of reference durations, a reference duration range associated with the eye gesture that is within the duration range, and adjust the duration range for the eye gesture based on the reference duration range.

This disclosure relates to winking to capture image data using an image capture device that is associated with a head-mountable device (HMD). An illustrative method includes detecting a wink gesture at an HMD. The method also includes causing an image capture device to capture image data, in response to detecting the wink gesture at the HMD.

Image capture technique

Methods, apparatus, and computer-readable media are described herein related to recognizing a look up gesture. Level-indication data from at least an accelerometer associated with a wearable computing device (WCD) can be received. The WCD can be worn by a wearer. The WCD can determine whether a head of the wearer is level based on the level-indication data. In response to determining that the head of the wearer is level, the WCD can receive lookup-indication data from at least the accelerometer. The WCD can determine whether the head of the wearer is tilted up based on the lookup-indication data. In response to determining that the head of the wearer is tilted up, the WCD can generate a gesture-recognition trigger, where the gesture-recognition trigger indicates that the head of the wearer has moved up from level.

In general, the subject matter described in this specification can be embodied in methods, systems, and program products for loading media files to a mobile computing device. A media library that includes media files is stored at a server system. Information indicating a present state of the mobile device is accessed, where the present state is based on the device being at a geographical location at a present time. Information indicating a previous state of the mobile device is accessed, where the previous state is based on the device being at a previous geographical location at a previous time. A selection of preferred media files are accessed based on the present state and the previous state. A selection of a subset of media files are accessed based on the preferred media files. At least a portion of each media file in the subset is transmitted to the mobile device.

This disclosure relates to proximity sensing for wink detection. An illustrative method includes receiving data from a receiver portion of a proximity sensor. The receiver portion is disposed at a side section of a head-mountable device (HMD). When a wearer wears the HMD, the receiver portion is arranged to receive light reflected from an eye area of the wearer, the proximity sensor detects a movement of the eye area, and the data represents the movement. The method includes determining that the data corresponds to a wink gesture. The method also includes selecting a computing action to perform, based on the wink gesture. The method further includes performing the computing action.

Wink gesture input for a head-mountable device

Data indicates characteristics of a user's multiple media files. The multiple media files are associated with a media library. At least one of the multiple media files matches content in a master media file. The content in the matching media file is of a quality that is lower than the quality of the master media file. The user can provide payment for access to the master media file and, if the user does so, the master media file is associated with the media library and the user is provided with access to the master media file.
