An angioplasty balloon () comprises an elongate tube () having a relaxed delivery configuration and an expanded deployed configuration. The elongate tube () comprises a proximal neck portion (), a distal neck portion (), a main body region, a tapered proximal portion () extending between the main body region and the proximal neck portion (); and a tapered distal portion () extending between the main body region () and the distal neck portion (), the elongate tube has only three fins () which are integrally formed with the tube and which are spaced equidistant from one another about the exterior of the tube. The fins () project radially outwardly from the exterior surface of the tube and the fins () extending longitudinally only along part of the main body region (), resulting in the end-sections of the balloon main body being fin-free.

Finned angioplasty balloon

A delivery system includes a catheter, and a drug coated angioplasty balloon mounted on the catheter. The balloon has a wrapped or folded delivery configuration and an expanded deployed configuration. A protective sleeve surrounds the drug coated balloon in the delivery configuration to minimise wash-off of drug from the balloon during delivery. The protective sleeve is retractable, so that once the drug coated balloon is at or near the treatment site, the sleeve can be retracted to allow the drug coated balloon to operate effectively. The protective sleeve can have a spacer mounted to or integral with the protective sleeve. The spacer in one case can comprise of interior ribs or ridges on the sleeve which minimise the surface area of the sleeve in direct contact with the drug coating on the balloon.

Delivery system for a drug coated angioplasty balloon

A stent delivery system configured to deliver a stent to a target region of a body lumen may include a catheter; a stent associated with the catheter, the stent having a first region and a second region; a balloon associated with the catheter, the balloon having a first balloon portion associated with the catheter proximate the first region of the stent and a second balloon portion associated with the catheter proximate the second region of the stent; and a sheath about the stent and the balloon, the sheath maintaining the stent in an undeployed configuration for delivery to a target region of a body lumen. The sheath may comprise a first sheath region configured to split at a first pressure thereby permitting the first region of the stent to assume a deployed configuration, a second sheath region configured to split at a second pressure thereby permitting the second region of the stent to assume a deployed configuration, the second pressure being greater than the first pressure and the first pressure being insufficient to cause the second region of the sheath to split, a split-stopping structure between the first and second sheath regions, the split-stopping structure being configured to prevent a split from propagating from the first sheath region to the second sheath region at the first pressure.

Systems and methods for delivering a stent to a body lumen

A medical device delivery system provides for a two-stage withdrawal of a deflated balloon portion of a catheter and the remains of a ruptured sheath. The deflated balloon portion is withdrawn from within an expanded medical device a predetermined distance before the remains of the ruptured sheath begins being removed from between the expanded device and a vessel wall. Initiating removal of the deflated balloon portion before the sheath reduces a total amount of drag that is exerted against a self-expanding medical device that has been deployed in a vessel.
