Disclosed herein are devices, systems, and methods for detecting, mitigating, and protecting against malicious actions and/or malicious computer software, including malware and ransomware. Specifically, disclosed embodiments mitigate the threat of ransomware across a wide range of devices including, for example, servers, storage systems, computers, and portable storage devices. At least one embodiment stealthily detects malicious actions by interposing when a file is opened for writing, creating a temporary checkpoint, comparing existing data in the file to what will be written to determine if it is destructive, and, if the behavior is malicious and/or destructive, preserving the checkpoint. At least a further embodiment can be implemented on, and/or ported in, a portable storage device (e.g., a USB device).

Devices, systems, and methods for ransomware protection and mitigation

Disclosed herein are devices, systems, and methods for the intelligent fuzzing of cyber-physical systems, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for such fuzzing. In at least one embodiment, a method is disclosed for intelligent fuzzing, which includes the steps of (1) characterizing 'normal' behavior of the cyber-physical system being tested, which may include, for example, utilization of a causal model to analyze causal relationships between various messages sent to and/or from the system being tested, (2) identifying dependency relationships between these various messages and/or generating a dependency graph for the messages, and (3) fuzzing an incoming message from the system under test. The fuzzing process may include querying the causal model to determine if the message is contained within the model. Fuzzing may further include altering the message's contents by, for instance, randomly manipulating particular message fields and/or replacing letters with other letters.

Artificial intelligence-based fuzzing of cyber-physical systems

A new asynchronous localization method for a network of nodes and transmitters, the position of at least one of the nodes and/or transmitters being known, involves receiving a first signal directly from a first transmitter at a first node of a first node pair, receiving the first signal relayed from a second node of the first node pair at the first node, and determining the delay at the first node between the direct and relayed first signal by comparing the direct and relayed first signals. This may be repeated with the first node acting as relay to determine the delay at the second node. Time difference of arrival and/or time of flight between first and second nodes may be determined using the determined delay at the first and/or second node and/or known node locations. The process is repeated for additional transmitters/node pairs until sufficient information is determined for desired applications.

GPS-alternative method to perform asynchronous positioning of networked nodes

A mesh-networked sensor platform has a mesh network of nodes that connect with existing electrical infrastructure or are powered through other means such as batteries or energy scavenging. The mesh network forms a self-healing and self-configuring network robust against individual node failures. Wireless mesh networking integrated circuits (ICs), energy monitoring ICs and solid state relays are used to create a low-cost, easy-to-install energy visualization and management system. The system can intelligently control energy usage at the sockets to stop energy from being wasted. Software for a central base station uses energy usage data from each node to create an energy usage profile to automatically detect anomalies in energy usage and take steps to correct them. Other sensors can be easily added for a multitude of applications. Power usage and control of each appliance can be viewed via an interne connected PC or smart phone via a social networking website.
