At a network-accessible service, a request is received from a client to enable access by a migration facilitator to a configuration record collection of the client. A response to a migration candidate identification query is generated using the configuration record collection and transmitted to the facilitator. An indication of a proposal associated with migrating at least a portion of the client's computing environment to a different computing environment with assistance from the facilitator is provided to the client.

A network-based discovery system and service are disclosed that provide client discovery services to a number of clients over a network. The network-based discovery system includes a database that stores discovery information of client network-based resource configurations. The discovery information may be obtained from client resources by client-side discovery components that are placed on client resources, obtain the discovery information and that send the information to the discovery system. The discovery system analyzes the discovery information to determine the client network-based resource configurations and generates client network-based resource configuration representations for the respective clients. The client network-based resource configuration representation may include a description of, and dependencies among, a plurality of computer-based resources. The discovery service may operate across a client network that spans both of a client's enterprise data networks as well as resources that are operated on behalf of the same client by a service provider network.

Service image providers submit service images for inclusion in the service image marketplace. Providers may further specify pricing and usage conditions associated with the service images. Customers browse and select service images for hosting on either the marketplace hosted computing environment, or an alternate hosted computing environment. If necessary, customers may submit payment information. The service image marketplace may monitor usage of hosted service images and bill customers according to use.

Electronic marketplace for hosted service images

An electronic service image marketplace for service images is provided that permits users to browse descriptions of service images implementing desired functionalities of a virtual machine image. The described service images may be further offered for purchase through the electronic service image marketplace. An operational data service, in communication with the electronic service image marketplace, may collect operational data from a plurality of host computing devices executing the selected service image. The operational data service may further analyze the collected operational data to obtain an aggregate measure of operational data for the selected service image when executed by host computing devices. The analyzed operational data may be further provided to the electronic service image marketplace for display within the description of the selected service image. Notifications may be further provided to a user of a selected service image based upon a comparison of the analyzed operational data to operational data of the selected service image.

Aggregation of operational data for merchandizing of network accessible services

Methods and apparatus for updating virtual machines (VMs) on a provider network according to modifications made to a server in a client network. A version of the server may be currently instantiated and executing as one or more VM instances on the provider network. Agent(s) installed on the server in the client network intercept write requests to volume(s) attached to the server, and send blocks that include updates to the server volume(s) to a service on the provider network. The service stores the blocks to incremental snapshots, and generates timestamped machine images (MIs) of the server from the snapshots. A VM service updates the VM instances on the provider network according to the MIs. Thus, the VM instances can be kept up to date with changes to the server without having to upload the entire volume(s) to the provider network to perform each update.

Systems and methods are disclosed which facilitate transfer of licenses corresponding to hosted services. Customers may purchase licenses to services implemented by a hosted computing environment. Thereafter, customers may elect to transfer all or a portion of that license to a second customer. In some embodiments, a customer may transfer the entirety of their service license. In other embodiments, a customer may transfer only a portion of their service license. In still more embodiments, a customer may temporarily transfer a license. For example, a customer may transfer a license only when they are not using the license.

Managing transfer of hosted service licenses

An electronic marketplace for service images permits users to browse descriptions of service images implementing desired functionalities of a virtual machine image. The described service images may contain one or more software applications and may be further offered for purchase through an electronic service image marketplace. Notifications, such as updates, regarding software applications contained within a service image can be uploaded to the electronic service image marketplace. The electronic service image marketplace identifies customers associated with service images containing outdated software applications and generates notifications for the customers.

Systems and methods are disclosed which facilitate monitoring of usage information associated with services implemented within a hosted computing environment. Providers of a service, or other authorized parties, may be enabled to associate one or more descriptors with a service. Thereafter, each service instances may be monitored for such descriptors. By correlating usage information of instances with specific descriptors, usage information for the descriptor may be generated. In some instances, usage information corresponding to a descriptor may be utilized to monitor license agreements associated with services including the descriptor. Further, use of descriptors may reduce or eliminate the need to associate services with physical attributes of hosting computing devices, such as media access control addresses.

Monitoring hosted service usage

Systems and methods are disclosed which facilitate managing interaction with instances corresponding to hosted services. Customers may implement services on a hosted computing environment. Further, the customer may allow limited interaction with the hosted service to a third party (e.g., in connection with a secondary service). For example, the third party may interact with a temporary copy of the hosted service. Thereafter, the customer may, given the consent of the third party, view details of the third party's interaction with the copy, and may be enabled to merge any alterations with the initial hosted service. In addition, a customer may monitor their own interactions with a hosted service or copies of a hosted service, and view details of the differences between multiple versions of the hosted service.
