A valve stem seal can include an elastomeric component having a first portion for having a sealed engagement with a valve stem, and a pressure relief lip engaging a valve guide. The pressure relief lip can have a sealing configuration and a venting configuration. The venting configuration can allow excess exhaust gases to vent from a combustion chamber. After the venting of excess exhaust gases, the pressure relief lip can close to the sealing configuration to prevent oil from entering the combustion chamber. The elastomeric body or the valve guide can include a pressure relief channel. The elastomeric body can also include a bumper engaging the valve guide. The pressure relief channel can be disposed in the bumper.

Valve stem seal with gas relief features

A valve stem seal assembly for an internal combustion engine includes an annular rigid case disposed around a valve guide and a valve stem. An annular elastomeric body is press fit within the annular rigid case and including a radially inwardly extending seal lip in sealing contact with the valve stem. The annular elastomeric body includes a first axial end facing the valve guide and a second axial end facing away from the valve guide. The annular rigid case includes a radially inwardly extending end wall opposing the second axial end of the annular elastomeric body and including a lip support extending axially from an inner portion of the radially inwardly extending end wall and opposing a radially inner surface of the radially inwardly extending seal lip.

Pressure support for engine valve stem seals

A low friction seal for sealing between a shaft and a bore and includes an inner case adapted to be mounted on the shaft. An outer case is adapted to be mounted within the bore. A seal element is mounted to the inner case and includes a base portion attached to the inner case. A membrane extends from the base portion and an axially extending leg extends from the membrane. A seal lip extends from the axially extending leg and sealingly engages a radially extending portion of the outer case. As the shaft rotates, the centrifugal forces tend to cause the membrane to flex and the torque loads applied by the dynamic seal are reduced to the point that the seal lip can lift off and apply zero torque load.

Zero torque membrane seal

A valve stem seal can include an elastomeric component having a first portion for having a sealed engagement with a valve stem, a second portion for engaging a valve guide, and a pressure relief lip extending from the second portion. The first portion can be configured to extend away from or within the second portion, and the second portion can have a channel formed therein. The pressure relief lip can have a sealing configuration and a venting configuration. The venting configuration can allow excess exhaust gases to vent from a combustion chamber. After the venting of excess exhaust gases, the pressure relief lip can close to the sealing configuration to prevent oil from entering the combustion chamber.

A gasket is adapted to seal between a first member and a second member, and includes a first portion a second portion. The first portion includes a first elastomeric seal portion adapted to be in sealing engagement with the first member. The first portion may also include a clip or a coil spring contained within an elastomeric portion in order to provide a sealing force against the first member. The second portion is preferably molded integral with the first portion and includes a second elastomeric seal portion having a coil spring contained therein. The second portion is adapted to be in sealing engagement with the second member, with the coil spring being compressed in its normal direction when the gasket is assembled between the first member and the second member. The coil spring, then, exerts a sealing force with minimal degradation over time.

Reduced load gasket

A gasket includes a fist sealing portion, a second sealing portion, and an elastic arm sealingly connecting between the two. The first sealing portion sealingly engages a first member and the second sealing portion sealingly engages a second member. The elastic arm is not highly compressed between the members, allowing the gasket to vibrationally decouple the first member from the second member.

Vibrationally decoupling gasket

An improved dual lip radial shaft seal is disclosed. The free end of the dual lip seal extends toward the air side of the seal. Optionally, the dual lip seal has an oil side excluder lip seal, an air side dust excluder lip seal, an elastomeric static seal extending from the elastomeric portion of the dual lip seal. In another optional embodiment, a relief groove is formed in the seal. A unitized seal version is also disclosed with two embodiments.

Reverse seal

A valve stem seal for use in an internal combustion engine. The valve stem seal includes a leak resistant plastic seal member located at the bottom of a valve guide. The valve stem seal is secured in place around the bottom of the valve guide by a metallic outer case having a cylindrical shape. The valve stem seal is in continuous engagement with a reciprocating valve stem on the bottom portion of the valve guide system.

Valve stem seal

An improved valve stem seal assembly for use in an internal combustion engine, including a rigid cylindrical shell having a flange portion and a seal retainer wall at the top portion. The valve stem seal assembly also includes a seal body having an integral spring molded within the body. The seal body having at least one annular lip to engage a reciprocating valve stem and a ridge or lip on the bottom portion of the seal body to engage and center the seal body in its proper position on the valve guide. The seal body being disposed within the rigid shell to form a valve stem seal assembly.
