A hybrid coating material and process for pigments and other powders, for example cosmetic powders employs an organometallate, for example a titanate, and a functionalized silicon compound, for example a trialkoxysilane or a functionalized polysiloxane, which covalently bond to each other and to the substrate powder. The coated powders can exhibit excellent hydrophobicity coupled with lipophilicity. Employment of fluorinated silicon compounds may provide hydrophobicity and lipophobicity. Examples show good dispersibility of coated pigments in aqueous, oil and silicone fluids.

Hybrid coated cosmetic powders and methods of making and using same

Disclosed is a composition that comprises an effective proportion of a first metal oxide powder having a primary particle size and a secondary particle size selected for the first metal oxide powder to attenuate UV A and an effective proportion of a second metal oxide powder having a secondary particle size selected for the second metal oxide powder to attenuate UVB. Self-dispersible coated metal oxide powder, and process for production and use

A wax-resin composite is made by melting thermoplastic hydrocarbon resin, optionally with an antioxidant. The melted thermoplastic hydrocarbon resin and waxes are blended at a temperature sufficient to melt the waxes. After blending and melting, the blended thermoplastic hydrocarbon resin and waxes are allowed to solidify. Solidification is followed by post-processing the wax-resin composite mixture to form slabs, pastilles, flakes or other forms. A method for producing a wax-resin composite comprises at least partially solvating a thermoplastic resin in a solvent to form a resin-solvent blend. This may be done at a heat of 80-85&#xb0; C. A composition of molten wax is blended with the resin-solvent blend. The resin-solvent blend and a molten wax are blended to form a wax-resin blend. This is followed by removing the solvent from said wax-resin blend.

Stable and uniform distribution of gel beads or other particulate material, dispersed in a liquid medium can be obtained by including a density-reducing agent within the gel beads to provide the particle with a desired bulk density, for example a density close to that of the disperse liquid medium. Suitable density control can prevent migration due to gravity leading to settling in storage. Gel beads formulated with agar are suitable for use in cosmetics and for inclusion in cosmetics formulating processes which may employ modestly elevated temperatures. Attractive and novel cosmetics bead suspensions are described. Additional to cosmetics, pharmaceutical, foodstuff and other applications are disclosed. Examples of suitable density-reducing agents include very low density hollow polymeric microspheres and temperature-sensitive expandable thermoplastic microspheres.

Density-controlled particulate suspensions for foodstuff, cosmetic, pharmaceutical and other uses

New cosmetic raw materials are provided in the form of complexes of pigment materials coupled to small microspheres providing complexes that impart richness and feel, with low oil absorbency while displaying the optical and other properties of the pigment. Improvements in spatial disposition of small pigment particles provide a better dispersion of pigment in and products such as makeups, creams, lipsticks, blushers, nail enamels, and the like. Preferred embodiments include talc, nylon, silica, starches and iron oxide pigments coupled by a liquid titanate coupling agent to microspheres of polyvinylidene chloride copolymer, polyethylene, nylon and silica. Simple methods of manufacture include spraying a liquid titanate in solution on a blended mixture of pigment and microsphere and drying the product while blending, to cure it.
