In a communication system, a session control server receives a session request for User Equipment (UE) over a first network and exchanges signaling with the UE and a transfer control server to establish a media session. The transfer control server sends an association of the UE and the transfer control server to a translation server. The translation server associates the UE with the transfer control server. The translation server receives a transfer request for the UE from a second network and identifies the transfer control server associated with the UE. The translation server transfers the transfer request for delivery to the transfer control server. The transfer control server exchanges signaling with the second network responsive to the transfer request to transfer the media session for the UE from the first network to the second network.

Internet multimedia subsystem (IMS) control over session transfer between communication networks

In various embodiments, methods and systems are provided for acquiring a mobile internet protocol address in a communication network. In an embodiment, a mobile network internet node key is sent to a service node. A mobile network internet node sends a mobile internet protocol access request message to an authentication node. The authentication node can then receive the mobile network internet node key transferred from the service node. In response to receiving a mobile internet protocol access accept message at the mobile network internet node transferred from the authentication node where the mobile internet protocol access accept message comprises the mobile network internet node key, the mobile internet protocol address is assigned at the mobile network internet node to a mobile station associated with a user identifier.

Methods for obtaining a mobile internet protocol address

A method of operating a communication system comprises exchanging initial communications between a wireless communication device and a communication network over a wireless connection between the wireless communication device and a network access system and a network connection between the wireless communication device and the communication network. The method further comprises performing a plurality of ranging processes to monitor a status of the wireless connection. Upon successfully completing a ranging process of the plurality of ranging processes, the method comprises determining a duration elapsed since the last successful ranging process and processing the duration to determine if the duration satisfies a criteria. The method further comprises, if the duration does not satisfy the criteria, then setting the indicator to indicate that a partial entry process is required to regain the network connection, and in response to the deterioration of the wireless link, processing the indicator to determine if the partial network entry process is required to regain the network connection.

A method of operating a communication system comprises exchanging initial communications between a wireless communication device and a communication network over a wireless connection between the wireless communication device and a network access system and over a network connection between the wireless device and the communication network. The method further comprises, in response to a loss of the network connection due to a deterioration of the wireless connection, determining if a partial network entry process is possible to regain the connection, and if the partial network entry process is possible to regain the network connection, performing the partial network entry process. The method further comprises, in response to an improvement of the wireless connection and upon regaining the network connection, exchanging new communications between the wireless communication device and the communication network over the wireless connection and the network connection.

Method for obtaining a mobile internet protocol address

Before a WiMAX-equipped device is distributed to an end-user, the manufacturer or distributor of the WiMAX-equipped device will record in the device a set of data that describes characteristics (e.g., type, features, capabilities, and limitations) of the device. When the end-user powers on the device or otherwise brings the device within the coverage of a service provider's WiMAX base station, the device will then acquire radio connectivity, typically with the service provider authenticating the device's WiMAX chipset. Thereafter, the device will engage in a first-time activation/service-provisioning session with a system operated by the service provider, and during that session, the device will provide the system with its device-characteristics data and the service provider will use that device-characteristics data as a basis to customize provisioning of service for the device based on the device's features and capabilities.

In various embodiments, methods and systems are provided for acquiring a mobile internet protocol address in a communication network. In an embodiment, an authentication node sends a mobile network internet node notification message to a mobile network internet node where the mobile network internet node notification message comprises an authentication node identifier associated with a user identifier. A mobile internet protocol request message is sent from a gateway node to the mobile network internet node. A mobile internet protocol access request message is sent from the mobile network internet node to the authentication node utilizing the authentication node identifier associated with a user identifier. A mobile internet protocol access accept message is received at the mobile network internet node transferred from the authentication node where the mobile internet protocol access accept message comprises a mobile network internet node key. The mobile internet protocol address is assigned at the mobile network internet node to a mobile station associated with the user identifier.

In various embodiments, methods and systems are provided for acquiring a mobile internet protocol address in a communication network. In an embodiment, a gateway node generates an extension where the extension comprises an authentication node identifier associated with a user identifier. The gateway node then sends a mobile internet protocol request message to a mobile network internet node where the mobile internet protocol request message comprises the extension. The mobile network internet node can then send a mobile internet protocol access request message to an authentication node utilizing the authentication node identifier obtained from the extension. In response to receiving a mobile internet protocol access accept message at the mobile network internet node transferred from the authentication node where the mobile internet protocol access accept message comprises the mobile network internet node key, the mobile network internet node assigns the mobile internet protocol address to the mobile station associated with the user identifier. A mobile internet protocol session accept message is sent to a mobile station wherein the mobile internet protocol session accept message comprises the mobile internet protocol address.

A method for imposing a communication policy for a mobile node. During Mobile-IP (MIP) registration for the mobile node, when a MIP home agent sends an access request to an authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA) server, the AAA server will select a pool of IP addresses corresponding with a communication policy for the mobile node and will direct the home agent to assign an IP address selected from that pool. Thereafter, when the home agent receives a communication to or from the IP address, the home agent may then determine the applicable communication policy by determining the pool from which the IP address was selected, and the home agent may apply that communication policy.

A broadband wireless communication system configures a wireless control system that is located in a geographic region with a custom parameter file that is customized for the geographic region. The broadband wireless communication system transfers a control message from the wireless control system to a user system based on the custom configuration. The broadband wireless communication system receives a wireless Radio Frequency (RF) signal from the user system, wherein the user system generates packets of voice information, converts the packets of voice information into the wireless RF signal, and transmits the wireless RF signal based on the control message. The broadband wireless communication system processes the wireless RF signal to recover the packets of voice information and transfers the packets of voice information to an internet.

A communication system is disclosed that is comprised of a plurality of communication markets. Each communication market comprises a wireless control system. Each of the wireless control systems is configured to retrieve a general configuration file and a custom parameter file. The custom parameter file is customized for a geographic region. Each of the wireless control systems is configured to process the general configuration file and a custom parameter file to configure itself with a custom configuration. Each of the wireless control systems is then configured to control broadband wireless communications based on the custom configuration.
