A pump assembly is disclosed comprising, a pump including a pump housing having a fluid inlet. At least one fluid outlet extends from the pump housing. An impeller driven by a motor is mounted in the pump housing arranged to move a fluid from the fluid inlet to the at least one fluid outlet. A valve rotatably mounted between the impeller and the at least one fluid outlet selectively controls the flow of fluid through the at least one fluid outlet.

Pump with rotary valve

A process and apparatus for cooling a heat generating component of a vehicle comprises a first pump switchable between a normal demand mode and a high demand mode. Coolant is pumped from the first pump through a cooling loop between a heat dissipating device and the heat generating component at a normal demand flowrate in the normal demand mode. Switching the first pump to the high demand mode diverts the coolant to a second pump. The second pump pumping the coolant through the cooling loop at a high demand flowrate.

Shift pump flow scheme

An apparatus and method for determining the position of a ring magnet fixed to a rotating device includes locating the ring magnet proximate to a sensor that is sensitive to magnetic polarities. The ring magnet includes a plurality of magnetic pole pairs of opposite magnetic polarities, having at least one pole pair larger than at least three other pole pairs. The sensor produces an output signal for each pole pair that represents a period when a pole pair is detected by the sensor as the ring magnet is rotated by the device. The output signals from the sensor are coupled to a digital circuit that differentiates the three smaller pole pairs from the at least one larger pole pair to determine the position of the ring magnet.

Apparatus and method for magnetically sensing the position of a rotating device

A rotary position sensor for measuring the position of a rotating shaft comprises an upper housing and a lower housing arranged to be attached to the upper housing. A barrel is rotationally mounted to the attached upper and lower housings and coupled to the shaft is arranged to be positionable within the attached upper and lower housings by the shaft. A potentiometer component is mounted to the barrel and to an electrical sub-assembly that measures the position of the barrel and in response generates a position signal.

A multi-switch pump assembly is disclosed that facilitates switched flow and/or mixed flow from the pump assembly. The multi-switch pump assembly comprises a pump body, an electric motor, a rotating motor shaft, a first pump stage and impeller, and a second pump stage and impeller. The first pump stage includes a first inlet and first and second outlets disposed about the pump body. The second pump stage includes a second fluid inlet connected to a mix chamber. The mix chamber further connected to the second fluid outlet of the first pump stage. The second stage further includes a second and a third outlet disposed about the pump body. An actuator connected to a valve assembly is arranged to operate and place the valve assembly into at least a first, a second, a third and a fourth switched positions to direct fluid flow between the first and the second pump stages and the first, second, third and fourth fluid outlets.

Multi-switch pump assembly

A process and apparatus for cooling a heat generating component of a vehicle comprises a first pump operated to pump a coolant to at least a first beat absorbing device when the heat generating component is operating. A second pump is operated to pump the coolant to at least the first heat absorbing device when the heat generating component is caused to stop operating.

Flow scheme with pump and switch

A pump assembly is disclosed comprising a pump including a pump housing having a fluid inlet conveying fluid to a pump cavity At least one fluid outlet extends from the pump housing. A plurality of fluid outlet ports extend from the pump housing. An impeller driven by a motor drives the fluid in the pump cavity. In a first embodiment, a valve member rotatably mounted between the impeller and the plurality of fluid outlet ports is arranged to selectively direct the flow of fluid from the pump cavity to one or more of the plurality of fluid outlet ports. In a second embodiment, the valve member includes a first and a second wall between a first and a second opening. The first and second openings are arranged to direct the flow of fluid from the pump cavity to at least two of the plurality of fluid outlet ports.

An integrated apparatus and method is disclosed for controlling a fluid pump and a valve connected to a coolant loop. The fluid pump for circulating fluid through the coolant loop and the valve positionable between a first and a second position. A controller generates control signals that are transmitted to the fluid pump and to the valve for regulating the speed of the fluid pump and the flow of the fluid circulating through the coolant loop and to position the valve into either the first or the second position.

Apparatus and method for the integrated control of a thermal management system

An assembly and process for draining fluid leaks from a pump housing is disclosed. The pump housing includes an internal mounting cavity, a valve installed in the mounting cavity and at least one housing passage extending to an exterior surface of the pump housing. A valve passage is formed through a wall of the valve. An interior fluid seal is installed on an interior surface of the valve forming a seal between the valve interior surface and a first surface of the mounting cavity. An exterior fluid seal is installed on an exterior surface of the valve that forms a seal between the valve exterior surface and a second surface of the mounting cavity. An inner leak path is created through the interior fluid seal to the valve passage. The valve passage collects fluid leaking in the inner leak path. An outer leak path is created through the exterior fluid seal. The outer leak path in fluid communication with the valve passage and with the housing passage. Fluid leaking in the exterior fluid seal and fluid contained in the valve passage is drained through the housing passage to the exterior of the pump housing.

Sealing assembly for a pump with a leak path

A pump assembly and method is disclosed comprising, a pump including a pump housing having a fluid inlet and at least one fluid outlet extending from the pump housing. A magnetic body of a brushless DC motor is submerged in the fluid and drives an impeller that moves the fluid from the fluid inlet to the at least one fluid outlet. A valve rotatably mounted between the impeller and the at least one fluid outlet selectively directs the flow of fluid through the at least one fluid outlet.

An assembly comprising a housing having a first and a second fluid inlet for directing fluid to a pump cavity. A valve switch located in the housing is arranged to selectively switch the flow of the fluid between the second fluid inlet and the pump cavity. A fluid outlet is fluidically connected to the pump cavity and an impeller contained in the pump cavity is arranged to be rotated on demand by an electrical motor that accelerates the fluid in the pump cavity out of the fluid outlet.

A pump assembly is disclosed comprising a pump body having a first pump stage housed in the pump body including a fluid inlet and a first and a second fluid outlet. A flow feed chamber is housed in the pump body in fluid communication with the second fluid outlet. A second pump stage housed in the pump body is in fluid communication with the flow feed chamber and includes at least one fluid outlet connected to the second pump stage. A valve assembly is operable into a first position to fluidically connect the fluid inlet through the first pump stage to the first fluid outlet. The valve assembly is further operable into a second position to fluidically connect the first pump stage to the second fluid outlet and the flow feed chamber and the flow feed chamber fluidically connected to the at least one fluid outlet through the second pump stage.

Multifunctional pump assembly

A valve includes a housing including a plurality of ports including an inlet port in communication with a radiator. The valve includes a cylinder located in the housing that includes a plurality of apertures and a fail safe opening. The cylinder is moveable such that one of the plurality of apertures can be aligned with one of the plurality of ports of the housing to determine a flow of a fluid through the valve. The valve includes a moveable feature moveable with and relative to the cylinder, and the moveable feature covers the fail safe opening of the cylinder when a temperature of the fluid flowing through the valve is below a threshold temperature.
