A bolt cutter. An illustrative embodiment of the bolt cutter includes a first jaw having a first jaw cutting edge, a second jaw pivotal with respect to the first jaw and having a second jaw cutting edge, a first handle pivotally carried by the first jaw, a second handle pivotally carried by the first handle and the second jaw, a rotatable sprocket carried by a first one of the first handle and the second handle and a roller chain meshing with the sprocket and attached to a second one of the first handle and the second handle.

Bolt cutter

There is disclosed a transducer with an integral switch for wireless electronics. Essentially, the transducer contains a housing which includes a sensor device. The sensor device may be a piezoresistive Wheatstone bridge arranged in a conventional manner. The output of the bridge is coupled to a typical amplifying circuit or an analog-to-digital converter whose signal is coupled to a suitable transmitting means. The signal provided by the Wheatstone bridge is transmitted through RF, infrared or some other wireless transmission scheme to a remote location. Such transmissions schemes are well known. Associated with the sensor and secured to the sensor housing, is a push button switch which is wired in series with a battery. The battery operates to energize the sensor, including all the electronics when the sensor is in placed in a pressure sensing position. When the pressure is placed in a pressure sensing position, the push button switch, is actuated to apply operating bias to the transducer device.

A heat source is formed within one piece of a multi-piece mold designed to shape a glass tube. The one piece of the mold can then be used as a source of intense heat to render the glass malleable and to also contribute to shaping the tube in conformance with the mold. In one embodiment, the heat source includes channels formed throughout the one piece of mold for distributing a gas therethrough with jets of gas emanating from the inner surface of the mold piece for heating the tube to be shaped to a desired temperature. In apparatus embodying the invention, there is no need for a separate torch and for moving the torch during the shaping process. Also, in accordance with the invention, better control of the heat supplied to the tube being shaped is obtained.

Mold incorporating a heat source and apparatus and method for using such molds

Apparatus for shaping a selected end region of a hollow cylindrical glass tube includes an internal mold placed within the selected end region for supporting the walls of the tube and controlling the shape of the internal surface of selected end region of the tube, during the period of time heat is applied to the tube and the tube is being shaped. In one embodiment the internal mold has a variable configuration and may be selectively set to an extended (open) configuration or to a collapsed (closed) configuration. With the internal mold set to its extended configuration, sufficient heat may be applied to the selected end region to render it malleable. Then, compression forces may be applied to the exterior surface of the tube to press the inner surface of the selected end region of the tube against the outer surface of the internal mold, causing the inner surface of the selected end region to conform to the outer surface of the internal mold. After the tube is shaped the internal mold may be set to its collapsed configuration and removed from the tube.

A high-density, small fiber optic enclosure permits the cross-connection and interconnection of optical fibers, through the use of an open-faced compact layering technique. The optical fiber enters an aperture in the bottom of the enclosure which includes a first section attachable to a wall surface, and a second section connected to the first enclosure section by a hinge. The first enclosure section includes an optical fiber splice holder and a plurality of hooks and clips for holding the optical fibers. The second enclosure section includes a plurality of hooks and clips also. The fibers enter the first section, are connected to the hooks and clips, and cross over to the second section and return to the first section and ultimately pass through an exit aperture in such a fashion as to form a plurality of FIG. 8 layers. If the optical fibers are not shielded, it is possible to use two opposing S-shaped fiber tubes to protect them at the crossover between the first and second enclosure.

The present invention provides an improved communications interface device for existing interface devices, capable of providing improved and enhanced functional features to the traditional limited services of telephone-based and communications interface devices without requiring modification to physical characteristics of existing interface devices. The apparatus includes a module having electrical connectors for establishing electrical connection to one or more service provider cables and one or more subscriber cables and a replaceable motherboard and one or more replaceable daugbterboards capable of providing access to additional bandwidth, sharing of bandwidth, access to high-speed and multimedia data, distribution of data by residential gateways and/or across existing telephone wiring, access to cable-related data, analog to digital conversion of data, or power surge damage-protection.

Network interface unit with subscriber line daughter boards

A quarter turn latch for joining a cover to a housing of an enclosure enables a technician to lock the enclosure by simply slamming the cover shut. The latch also enables a technician to unlock the enclosure by rotating the shaft by a quarter turn. The latch includes a shaft and a clasp. The shaft includes a head and a tail. The tail includes peripherally alternating sets of longitudinally spaced teeth and tail cam surfaces. Each tooth has a shoulder facing the head of the shaft and a tooth cam surface. The perimeter of a cross section of each tail cam surface is arcuate. The clasp includes pawls. When the tail is inserted into the clasp, each pawl is in contact with the tail cam surface, the tooth cam surface, or the shoulder. The latch prevents unauthorized access to the enclosure by requiring specific tools to rotate the shaft. The latch is applicable to a wide variety of equipment enclosures such as fiber optic interconnection devices, fiber closures, and fiber cross connect fields, used in a variety of environments.

Quarter turn latch

A balanced heat coil protector protects telecommunications equipment from excessive sneak currents through a telecommunications circuit having a ring conductor and a tip conductor. An electrically conductive grounding pin is supported within and extends through the base for providing a path to ground potential. A first electrically conductive line pin and a first electrically conductive central office pin are supported in the base and extend therethrough, the first line pin and first central office pin being electrically connected to each other by a first conductive wire to provide a normal circuit current path from the first line pin to the first central office pin. A second electrically conductive line pin and a second electrically conductive central office pin are also supported in the base and extend therethrough, the second line pin and second central office pin being electrically connected to each other by a second conductive wire to provide a normal circuit current path from the second line pin to the second central office pin. A sleeve having electrically conductive flanged end portions is supported in an initial position within the housing on the grounding pin by a fusible material and is disposed above at least one of the first line and central office pins and at least one of the second line and central office pins, and the first and second conductive wires are wound about an outer surface of the sleeve. The fusible material melts in response to an excessive sneak current in either the ring or tip conductors causing the sleeve to move from the initial position to a grounding position in contact with at least one of the first line and central office pins and at least one of the second line and central office pins to simultaneously ground the ring and tip conductors.

Balanced heat coil protector

A locking device suitable for NID housing security. The device includes a slotted cylinder, a key and key tool. The slotted cylinder has a resistance component contained in the cylinder. The key is mateable with the slotted cylinder and is held in place by the force of the resistance component. The key head has a cavity therein of a complimentary shape to the key tool so that the tool may be used to turn the key for locking or unlocking. A cylindrical sleeve is used for additional security. The sleeve fits over the mated key and slotted cylinder to protect against release of the parts and may further provide a barrier to removal from a structure being locked. By use of different key head cavity shapes each subscriber may only access their own line in a NID.

Locking device

A fiber optic splice holder with a slack storage feature has a reel having a hub for fiber slack storage, and a means for holding a splice at its center, whereby fiber slack can be stored and retrieved while protecting the fiber splice, in a manner which avoids entanglement with other splices and fibers. The reel is supported by a reel holder, which can be reversibly mounted in a modular rack for easy storage, and permits easy access to individual splices and accompanying slack.

A secure cable trough includes a tray, a retaining member, and an adjustable fastening mechanism. The tray includes a first retaining arm. The retaining member includes a second retaining arm. The retaining member is slideably engaged to the tray. The first retaining arm, the second retaining arm, the tray, and the retaining member define a cavity for housing the cables. The first retaining arm and the second retaining arm extend toward each other and are offset and overlapping. The distance between the first and second retaining arm defines a gap. The gap provides access to cables and allows cables to be inserted and extracted from the trough. The first and second retaining arms inhibit cables housed within the trough from inadvertently falling out. The adjustable fastening mechanism slideably engages and locks the retaining member to the tray. The adjustable fastening mechanism allows the retaining member to be positioned relative to the tray. The size of the gap is proportional to the relative position between the tray and the retaining member.

Fiber optic guides with integrated security

A network interface system or device is disclosed that represents an optimal balance in the cost of the materials for the components and the cost of the assembly time required of a field technician. One or more lines from the network provider, e.g., a telephone company, are provided as well as one or more corresponding lines from a customer. For a given network line and corresponding customer line, each line is preferably terminated with a female spade connector. A small printed circuit board (PCB) is provided that has ends shaped to act as male spade connectors. An electrical connection is provided between the ends of the PCB. Optionally, but preferably, a gas tube is provided to suppress surges on the network line before they damage equipment connected to the customer line. A PCB configured in this manner can connect one set or multiple sets of lines.

Simplified network interface device

A fiber strain relief apparatus is disclosed with bend radius limiter and slack storage. The strain relief mechanism is a bend limiter drum with three lugs, a strain relief pivoting top with latch, a latch stopper handle, a compressible gasket, and a base with latch. Fiber slack is wound around the bend limiter drum. Fibers are prevented from sliding off by the lugs. A gasket compresses on to the fibers producing a strain relief action, while the slack is being stored on the drum. Unlatching the strain relief top is performed by compressing the top latch against the latch stopper. The strain relief top pivots around a living hinge producing access to the drum. Cable is coiled around the drum and the strain relief top is latched, holding the fiber against the drum. A base latch is provided allowing the device to be mounted and removed from a panel.

An economical protective shield assembly of a dielectric substrate and an EMI shield, substantially free of the effects of board coupling and air coupling which requires less hardware for securing an EMI shield than present devices and methods, is provided for. The inventions use of simply finished shield edges with an unimproved substrate having a conductive intermediary interconnected with a grounding path and simply finished or unfinished shield edges with an improved substrate having a mating groove cooperatively adapted to fit the shield edge, interacts to exclude EMI signals and requires less precision in positioning the shield onto the substrate. The invention also provides a simplified method to exclude EMI effects for an assembly by a process of fabrication requiring less finishing steps than present processes.

Economical packaging for EMI shields on PCB

A method to precisely position an electronic component within a cutout on a printed circuit board before attachment to said board. A nest precisely positions and firmly holds the component in place. Inner walls of the nest match the component's dimensions while the outer walls are stepped and match the cutout dimensions. In the preferred embodiment, the nest is mounted on a top plate above the circuit board. The operator places and centers the component in the nest, by means of the nest's shape or leaf springs which hold the component centered. Components are positioned by wiggling the nest until the stepped sides engage the PCB. In an alternative embodiment, the operator turns an eccentric cam applying force to a spring, pushing the component towards one edge of the nest for alignment. Both embodiments, hold the component so the operator can fasten the component to the board with both hands.
