A system and method for implementing environmentally-sensitive simulations on a data processing system. According to an embodiment of the present invention, an ambient temperature associated with a player's location is provided to an environmental module. The environmental module provides the ambient temperature information to a simulation application. The simulation application modifies the behavior of a simulation executing on the data processing system according to the ambient temperature. The data processing system displays the simulation with the modified behavior to the player.

Dynamically modifying the allocation of branches of a directory information tree to directory servers, based on the real time volume of requests processed for a specific branch at a particular directory server. In particular, a Master Server (MS) utility calculates and stores branch access numbers for each server in the form of decaying averages. The MS utility maintains these access numbers within a database table. The MS utility determines if branches are transferred to a new master server by evaluating these access numbers within pre-set transfer criteria, which include a set of Boolean conditions. That is, transferring a branch to a new master server is dependent on the branch access numbers of the prospective master server candidate satisfying a set of Boolean conditions. Once the MS utility determines that these Boolean conditions are satisfied, the MS utility transfers the branch to that new master server.

Dynamic determination of master servers for branches in distributed directories

A safety interlock for an overhead projector utilizes only one electrical switch to provide the functions of both a conventional power switch and a safety interlock switch. In an operational mode, the switch responds to a cam surface for actuation. In a safety interlock mode, the switch is allowed to rotate in response to forces generated by the cam surface rather than being actuated.

An elastomeric tube for environmentally protecting and/or electrically insulating an object and a separate sleeve having low surface friction disposed in the tube to facilitate assembly of the tube to the object. Methods of assembling the tube to the object are also disclosed.
