A quick connect coupling includes female and male assemblies. The female and male assemblies include first and second valves, respectively, operable between open and closed positions. The male assembly connects to the female assembly by axial movement and relative rotation, wherein the male assembly disconnects from the female assembly by relative rotation and axial separation, wherein relative rotation of the assemblies moves the second valve between the open and closed positions. Moving the second valve from the closed to the open position allows the first valve to be movable from the closed position to the open position and moving the first valve from the closed to the open position limits relative rotation between the assemblies and prevents disconnection. Disconnection can only occur when the first valve has been moved to the closed position. Disconnection moves the second valve from the open to the closed position.

Quick connect coupling with nested ball valves

A coupling assembly is disclosed that includes a first member and a second member having a receiving portion sized to receive the first member. A retaining formation is provided on one of the first and second members. The retaining formation includes a ramp and two or more grooves, wherein each groove is at least partially defined by converging surfaces. A locking member is moveably secured in a cavity in the other of the first and second members. The locking member is configured to be moved in a first radial direction by the ramp upon movement of the first member into the second member. The locking member is also biased in a second radial direction opposite the first radial direction into a groove in the retaining formation to become positioned between a converging surface on the retaining formation and the cavity upon further movement of the first member into the receiving portion of the second member, and may be progressively received in additional grooves on the retaining formation if the first member is further inserted into the second member.

Coupling assembly

A coupling assembly including a union member having a first receiving portion with internal threads and a second receiving portion with oppositely oriented internal threads, a first coupling member (e.g., a hose adapter) having external threads that are threadingly engaged to the internal threads of the union member, and a second coupling member (e.g., an elbow fitting) having external threads that are threadingly engaged to the oppositely oriented internal threads of the union member. Upon rotation of the union member, the length and/or phase angle between the first and second coupling members changes.

Adjustable fluid coupling assembly

A coupling assembly includes a first coupling member having a first exterior surface and a second exterior surface spaced from the first exterior surface by a rib having a first locking surface. A second coupling member includes an inwardly facing surface sized to receive the first coupling member and an inwardly facing annular groove having a second locking surface. The groove is configured to reduce stress risers in the second coupling member. A resiliently expandable locking ring is received in the inwardly facing annular groove and is engaged and expanded to a larger radial size by the rib upon movement of the first coupling member further into the second coupling member. The resiliently expandable locking ring is configured to retract in diametrical size to become trapped between the first locking surface and the second locking surface upon further movement of the first coupling member into the second coupling member.

A quick-connect coupling having a tubular tube support, a sleeve and a collet. The tubular tube support includes a tube support portion and a mounting flange joined to the tube support portion. The sleeve includes an inner surface diameter greater than an outer surface diameter of the tube and an outer surface engaging an inner wall of a bore. The collet includes an outer surface engaging the inner surface of the sleeve and an inner surface diameter greater than an outer surface diameter of the tubular tube support and slightly less than the outer surface diameter of the tube. The tube is frictionally retained between the collet and the tubular tube support when the tube is inserted into the coupling.

Quick connect tube coupling

A quick-connect cartridge assembly includes a ring, a collar disposed within the ring, and an annular seal coaxially disposed with respect to the ring and the collar. A plug having a shank with an outer diameter substantially similar to the inner diameter of the collar is slidably received within the collar and is held within the collar by a friction fit. The plug is also received through the annular seal so as to establish a coaxial relationship with the ring, the collar and the annular seal. The plug includes one or more features for facilitating installation of the ring, the collar and the annular seal into a port and subsequent removal of the plug from the components after installation.

Quick connect cartridge assembly with plug

A coupling assembly for connecting two members is provided that includes a first &ldquo;male&rdquo; member and a second &ldquo;female&rdquo; member. The first member includes a release sleeve moveably mounted thereon having a rigid release portion and a flexible sealing portion. The second member comprises at least one of an integral coupling member integrated into an apparatus, such as a pump, and an independent coupling member. Upon connection of the first and second members, the flexible sealing portion sealingly engages a mating surface on the second member to substantially inhibit the entry of contamination into an area between the first and second members when connected. The present invention provides an improved release sleeve that releases the male member from both an independent female member and an integral female member.

The present invention includes a pre-assembled, high-pressure coupling interface adapter for use with a non-threaded port of a female member. The adapter comprises a generally cylindrically shaped metal body including a central longitudinal channel and an inner and outer surface. The body includes an external segment having an external end and an internal segment having an internal end, the internal segment configured for receipt within the port of the female member. The inner surface of the body is configured to engage and secure one or more external features of a separate male coupling member. The present invention also includes a coupling assembly including a coupling adapter and a method for forming a female coupling assembly including an adapter.

Coupling adapter and assembly

A coupling assembly for connecting two members is provided that includes a first &ldquo;male&rdquo; member and a second &ldquo;female&rdquo; member. The first member includes a release sleeve moveably mounted thereon having a rigid release portion and a flexible sealing portion. The second member is integrated into an apparatus, such as a pump, and includes a duct therethrough for receiving the first member. Upon connection of the first and second members, the flexible sealing portion sealingly engages a recessed seat portion of the second member to substantially inhibit the ingression of contaminates into the duct when the first and second members are connected. The foregoing coupling assembly is advantageous because it allows the second member to be formed directly into an apparatus. In other embodiments, the coupling assembly provides an improved release sleeve that releases the male member from both a conventional female member and an integral female member.

A coupling for sealing an outer cylindrical wall of a member of a fluid flow system extending along an axis. The coupling has a body and nut encircling the cylindrical wall which are configured to receive either a conventional O-ring or packing. The body includes a recess having a wall surface tapering at an angle in the range of 7.degree. to 20.degree. relative the axis and cooperates with the nut and cylindrical wall of the member to define an open area for receiving either an O-ring or packing.

Coupling

An improved drain coupling of the type having a male coupling half including a body having an inner body end and an outer body end. A passage axially extends through the body intersecting the body ends. A valve is axially reciprocally mounted within the passage between a closed position and an open position for regulating flow of fluid through the passage. The improvement includes, among other things, a valve having a first valve end adjacent to the inner body end and a second valve end adjacent to the outer body end. The valve has a central portion positioned at a center of the valve adjacent to the second valve end.

Drain coupling

A female coupling member includes a body portion, a slideable sleeve positioned in the body portion and an axially extending stem valve sealingly engageable with the sleeve. Axial movement of the sleeve relative to the stem valve opens the female coupling member to the flow of fluid. The stem valve is provided with a cavity sized to receive a protruding nose of a male member to be attached thereto. The slideable sleeve and the stem valve are designed to receive the male coupling member including its flat insertion end and protruding nose with minimal air inclusion and minimal fluid loss upon disengagement.

Low spill female coupling

A manually adjustable service adapter includes a manually adjustable actuation shaft for opening the valve of a charging port of a refrigeration system to permit the charging of refrigerant into such system. Actuation of such charging port results from an axially movable shaft in combination with one of two internal, axially slideable sleeves. The axially movable actuation shaft is manually adjustable by a rotatable knob which causes it to move axially but non-rotatably. Such axial movement of the shaft along with restriction of movement of one slideable sleeve upon abutment against the other slidable sleeve when the adapter is engaged to the charging port, opens the seal between the shaft and such one slideable sleeve while movement of the shaft with its end engaged to the valve of the charging port, opens such valve. Means are provided for preventing rotational movement of the axially movable shaft.

Refrigeration system service adapter

A coupling assembly for connecting two members that includes an annular locking ring. The assembly further includes a first member and a second member. The first member has an exterior surface having a groove for receiving the locking means. The second member has an inner surface having a cavity for receiving the locking means. The first and second members are secured together when the locking ring is engaged in the groove and the cavity.

A fluid coupling is disclosed. The fluid coupling includes first and second coupling parts which define a passageway. A valve is provided in the passageway. The valve is adapted to open upon interconnection of the coupling parts. One of the coupling parts includes at least one guide groove, while the other coupling part includes at least one key pin receivable by the guide groove. The coupling parts can only be interconnected upon alignment of the key pin with the guide groove.
