In an embodiment provides a system for real time, fast, global asset tracking, the system includes: a server with a processor, a memory, and a network interface, wherein the memory includes a tracking application, where the tracking application directs the processor to: receive a message including specific data from a tag; determine a time search window based on the message received from the tag; perform an initial position search; perform calculations for position and time, utilizing the time search window, the initial position search and satellite ephemeris information; and display a position information of the tag.

Spoofing detection and anti-jam mitigation for GPS antennas

A technique for estimating the location of a wireless terminal at an unknown location in a geographic region. The wireless terminal measures samples of a predetermined form of energy in its vicinity. The disclosed technique then generates a characterization of a predetermined type of variation in the vicinity of the wireless terminal, based on the samples measured. Based on the characterization, the technique generates an estimate of whether the wireless terminal is moving or stationary. The technique then generates an estimate of the location of the wireless terminal, based on the estimate of whether the wireless terminal is moving or stationary. The location estimate can be based on i) applying a location estimate that is optimized for motion if the wireless terminal is estimated to be moving and ii) applying a different technique if the wireless terminal is estimated to be stationary.

An indoor positioning system determines the location of a mobile device by comparing measured signal strengths to a database determined via offline calibration. Automated maintenance and repair of the database are facilitated by accurately characterizing indoor radio signal propagation. Systems and methods for updating a signal strength database are disclosed. In one variation, a computer-implemented method of discovering a new or moved wireless access point (AP) within an indoor environment involves flagging one of the wireless APs as the new or moved AP; determining a location of the new or moved AP using information from at least one of an installation log and an AP location solver; determining transmit strengths and estimated received signal strengths of signals transmitted from calibration reference points (RPs) to the AP using a spatially-dependent path-loss model; and adding the transmit strengths and estimated received signal strengths to the signal strength database.

Systems and methods to track a device in an indoor environment having polygonal obstructions are disclosed. In one variation, a computer-implemented method to localize the device involves receiving, at a server, a signal strength profile from the device, wherein the signal strength profile includes signal strengths of wireless signal transceivers in the indoor environment; determining a raw estimated location in a coordinate plane representing the indoor environment by using a K-nearest neighbor algorithm; calculating a straight-line path in the coordinate plane from an immediately preceding location to the raw estimated location; selecting the raw estimated location as a candidate location when the straight-line path connects the two locations without intersecting any of the polygonal obstructions; calculating a weighted-average location using the immediately preceding location and the candidate location; and storing the weighted-average location as a new location when a hypothetical velocity is less than or equal to a saturation velocity.

A disclosed detector estimates the wireless terminal as being indoors or outdoors by utilizing information that includes measurement report data from previous calls involving both i) wireless terminals that are known to have been indoors and ii) wireless terminals that are known to have been outdoors while the measurement report data was collected. Based on this call data, one or more classification features are computed in accordance with the illustrative embodiment of the present invention. Then, for a wireless terminal that is to be classified during a call and with respect to the terminal being either indoors or outdoors, features that are representative of that wireless terminal for the call are evaluated against a characterization that is a composite of one or more previously-computed classification features. The features that are representative of the wireless terminal can be derived from the measurement reports received from the wireless terminal during the call.

Indoor-outdoor detector for estimating the location of a wireless terminal

A technique is disclosed for estimating the lateral location of a wireless terminal in a geographic region. The technique is based on the recognition that some three-dimensional locations of the wireless terminal are improbable, and that measurements of temperature and atmospheric pressure at the wireless terminal and outside can be used to determine which lateral locations of the wireless terminal are improbable.
