A system for dialysis is disclosed. An example peritoneal dialysis system includes a peritoneal dialysis machine including a pumping mechanism, and a sensor configured to measure a property of peritoneal dialysis fluid. The peritoneal dialysis system also includes a disposable cassette operable with the peritoneal dialysis machine. The disposable cassette includes a fluid source inlet for accepting fluid from a fluid source and a fluid flow path in fluid communication with the fluid source inlet. The fluid flow path includes a pump chamber operable with the pumping mechanism to pump fluid through the fluid flow path. The disposable cassette also includes a concentrate inlet for fluidly communicating concentrate to the fluid flow path, and a sensor chamber located along the fluid flow path and operable with the sensor. The sensor is configured to provide feedback to the peritoneal dialysis machine for mixing the concentrate for forming peritoneal dialysis fluid.

System for peritoneal dialysis

A disposable set and system for dialysis are disclosed. An example peritoneal dialysis system includes an automated peritoneal dialysis ('APD') machine comprising a pumping mechanism and a peritoneal dialysis fluid heater. The example peritoneal dialysis system also includes a disposable set comprising a disposable cassette operable with the pumping mechanism and a heater bag operable with the heater. The example peritoneal dialysis system additionally includes a conductivity sensor positioned and arranged to provide feedback to the APD machine. The example APD machine is configured to mix a peritoneal dialysis fluid for treatment in the heater bag using a plurality of peritoneal dialysis constituent fluids. In addition, the example APD machine is configured to use feedback from the conductivity sensor to evaluate the mixed peritoneal dialysis fluid for treatment.

Disposable set and system for dialysis

A disposable cassette and system for dialysis are disclosed. An example disposable cassette includes a rigid portion, a fluid source inlet configured to be placed in fluid communication with a fluid source, and a fluid pumping receptacle placed in fluid communication with the fluid source inlet. The fluid pumping receptacle is configured to operate with a fluid pump actuator to pump fluid from the fluid source. The example disposable cassette also includes a dampening chamber formed as part of the rigid portion and in fluid communication with the fluid pumping receptacle. The dampening chamber is sized and arranged to reduce pressure fluctuations in the fluid delivered from the fluid pumping receptacle. The example disposable cassette further includes an outlet in fluid communication with the dampening chamber. The outlet provides dialysis fluid for a dialysis treatment.

Systems and methods for performing peritoneal dialysis

A solute concentration measurement device is disclosed. The device may comprise a filter membrane, an exchange chamber, a sensing chamber, a separator, and a sensor. The device may be configured to be placed in fluid communication with a sample solution containing a solute and a solvent. The filter membrane may provide selective fluid communication between the solution and the exchange chamber. The separator may separate the exchange chamber from the sensing chamber and cause a change in a condition of the sensing chamber corresponding to a change of a condition of the exchange chamber. The sensor may sense the condition pertaining to the sensing chamber and calculate the concentration of the sample solution corresponding to this change.

Solute concentration measurement device and related methods

Weight/sensor-controlled sorbent system for hemodialysis

In a peritoneal dialysis embodiment of the present invention, spent dialysate from the patient's peritoneal cavity passes, along a patient loop, through a dialyzer having a membrane that separates waste components from the spent dialysate, wherein the patient loop returns fresh dialysate to the patient's peritoneal cavity. The waste components are carried away in a second regeneration loop to a regeneration unit or sorbent cartridge, which absorbs the waste components. The regeneration unit removes undesirable components in the dialysate that were removed from the patient loop by the dialyzer, for example, excess water (ultrafiltrate or UF), toxins and metabolic wastes. Desirable components can be added to the dialysate by the system, such as glucose and electrolytes. The additives assist in maintaining the proper osmotic gradients in the patient to perform dialysis and provide the necessary compounds to the patient.

The present invention is directed to a wound drain including a plurality of ducts 24, a plurality of lumens 26 and a plurality of portals 28. The ducts 24 provide an entrance for exudate from the wound site into the wound drain. The lumens 26 and ducts 24 provide drainage channels for exudate from the wound site. The portals 28 provide fluid communication between the ducts 24 and the lumens 26. The portals on the wound drain are adapted and arranged to provide uniform suction along the length of the wound drain.

A second stage diving regulator of the type used by scuba divers is provided. The regulator comprises a regulator housing and a mouthpiece. The regulator housing includes an inhalation chamber having a port, and a demand valve that releases air to the port in response to inhalation through the port. The mouthpiece comprises a unitary housing attachable to the regulator housing and includes a one-way exhalation pathway, thus obviating the need for an exhalation pathway in the regulator housing itself. Inhalation no-return valves can be additionally incorporated into the fluid pathway from the regulator housing to the diver to prevent fluids from flowing into the regulator housing through the mouthpiece. Saliva and exhaled air with its attendant moistures and pathogenic entities can thus be prevented from entering the regulator housing. The mouthpiece can be made easily detachable and can be sanitized between uses, making it particularly well suited for rental and instructional purposes. The disclosed invention keeps the interior spaces of the regulator clean and dry even when the regulator is not in place in the diver's mouth, thus extending regulator life and preventing a dangerous and irritating free-flow condition from occurring due to icing when used in cold water. The mouthpiece can be variously constructed to differentiate common-use mouthpieces from those owned individually.

A mouthpiece is provided having a quick connect coupler to facilitate the rapid replacement of mouthpieces for use with breathing devices that may be used by many different individuals, such as in diver training classes and rental operations. In a preferred embodiment, the mouthpiece has a coupler including a pin to engage and lock with a slot in an opening of the regulator housing. The mouthpiece can further include one-way inhalation and exhalation pathways to prevent pathogenic entities in the exhalation and saliva of the diver from contaminated the body of the regulator. An exhaust tee is provided to direct bubbles away from the diver's line of vision. The regulator housing can further include an independent exhaust valve opening. A seal is provided to prevent the regulator body from flooding through the exhaust valve opening when the regulator is used with a mouthpiece having its own exhalation pathway. A flapper valve replaces the exhaust valve opening seal to permit conventional operation when the regulator is used with a conventional mouthpiece after being taken out of service for use by multiple users.

Mouthpiece with coupler

A mouthpiece for use with breathing devices of the type used by scuba divers is provided. The mouthpiece includes-at least one no-return valve to allow exhalation directly into the ambient environment. Additional no-return valves can be incorporated into the inhalation pathway to prevent fluids from flowing back into the regulator housing. In one embodiment, an inlet no-return valve is located in the respiratory port tube of the regulator. In other embodiments, an inlet no-return valve is located in the mouthpiece itself.
