Fluid communication devices and supporting structures may be provided for use with intraosseous devices. Apparatus and methods may also be provided to communicate fluids with an intraosseous device.

Apparatus and methods to communicate fluids and/or support intraosseous devices

Medical procedure trays and related methods are provided to accommodate joining a first non-sterile medical device with a second sterile medical device and maintaining required sterilization of the second sterile medical device to perform an associated medical procedure. One example of such medical procedures includes biopsy of a bone and/or associated bone marrow using a non-sterile powered driver and a sterile biopsy needle or biopsy needle set. Each medical procedure tray may include a containment bag or sterile sleeve. A coupler assembly, one or more sharps protectors, a biopsy sample ejector and/or associated ejector funnel may also be included. Some medical procedure trays may allow engaging a non-sterile powered driver with one end of a coupler assembly and sealing the non-sterile powered driver in a sterile sleeve or containment bag without compromising sterility of other components in the medical procedure tray.

Apparatus and methods for biopsy and aspiration of bone marrow

An apparatus and methods are provided to penetrate a bone and associated bone marrow using a powered driver having a gear assembly and a motor. The powered driver may include an indicator operable to show status of a power supply associated with the powered driver. The power supply may include a battery power pack having a diamond shaped cross section. The powered driver may have a handle with a corresponding cross section.

Powered driver

Apparatus and methods are provided to penetrate a bone and associated bone marrow using a powered driver. The powered driver is operable to insert an intraosseous device into a bone and associated bone marrow. The powered driver may include a housing having a distal end and a proximal end; a drive shaft having a first end disposed within the housing; a motor disposed within the housing and rotatably engaged with the drive shaft; a power supply to supply power to the motor; and a trigger assembly to activate the motor to rotate the drive shaft. A light may be connected to the power supply and operable to illuminate an insertion site for the intraosseous device.

Powered drivers, intraosseous devices and methods to access bone marrow

Apparatus and methods provided to remove biopsy specimens from bone and/or associated bone marrow. A powered driver may rotate a biopsy needle at an optimum speed to obtain the biopsy specimen. A thread or a groove may be disposed on interior portions of the biopsy needle. The thread or groove may engage a biopsy specimen and enhance removal of a bone marrow core from cancellous bone. Manufacturing procedures are provided for bonding a single helical thread with interior portions of the biopsy needle. The apparatus may also include a biopsy sample ejector and/or ejector funnel. A biopsy needle set may include a cannula and a trocar with respective tips having optimum configurations, dimensions and/or orientations relative to each other to optimize penetration of a bone and/or bone marrow with minimum patient trauma and enhanced reliability of obtaining a biopsy specimen.

Biopsy devices and related methods

An apparatus for penetrating bone and accessing bone marrow is provided. The apparatus may include a penetrator assembly and a powered drill. The penetrator assembly may include an inner penetrator having a stylet. The penetrator assembly may also include an outer penetrator having a hollow cannula and a luer lock attachment. The powered drill may include a housing enclosing a motor and a power supply and associated circuitry. The powered drill may also include a connector receptacle for receiving a penetrator assembly connector of the penetrator assembly. The powered drill may include a magnetic connection which releasably locks the penetrator assembly connector into place with the powered drill. The power supply may include a rechargeable battery within the housing for supplying power to the motor. A battery indicator may be provided to indicate a level of the battery.

Apparatus and methods are provided to remove biopsy specimens from a bone and/or associated bone marrow using a powered driver and an intraosseous (IO) needle set. The powered driver may rotate the IO needle set at an optimum speed to obtain a biopsy sample of bone and/or bone marrow. Apparatus and methods may also be provided for aspiration of bone marrow and/or stem cell transplant procedures. The apparatus may include a powered driver, a coupler assembly, a containment bag or sterile sleeve and various IO needles and IO needle sets with associated hubs and/or hub assemblies. Each IO needle set may include a cannula or catheter and an associated trocar stylet with respective tips operable to penetrate a bone and/or bone marrow with minimum trauma to a patient. Each hub assembly may be used to releasably dispose a respective stylet within an associated generally hollow cannula. Some coupler assemblies and/or hub assemblies may also be used with manual drivers.

Assembly for coupling powered driver with intraosseous device

The present disclosure relates to an apparatus for providing access to bone marrow and delivering a quantity of fluid to an intraosseous space. The apparatus may include a driver having a housing and a drive shaft, and a plunger operating and cartridge drive mechanism for releasably retaining a portion of a cartridge assembly having a plunger assembly. A plunger operating assembly may be disposed within a longitudinal bore of the plunger operating and cartridge drive mechanism. The plunger operating assembly may include a plunger barrel having a chamber configured to receive a portion of the plunger assembly of the cartridge assembly. The apparatus may also include a drive housing for transmitting rotational forces from the drive shaft to the cartridge assembly.

Apparatus to inject fluids into bone marrow and other target sites

A method for penetrating bone and accessing bone marrow is provided. The method may include inserting a penetrator assembly with a powered drill to penetrate the bone into the bone marrow. The penetrator assembly may include a trocar having a stylet. The penetrator assembly may also include an outer penetrator having a hollow cannula and a luer lock attachment. Kits carrying various components and devices are provided for use in obtaining access to a patient's vascular system. Various methods and procedures may be used to treat both emergency and more routine conditions using the contents of such kits. For example, such kits may contain various types of intraosseous (IO) devices including, but not limited to, drivers, penetrator assemblies, IO needles and other related components. Intravenous (IV) devices such as syringes, needles, IV bags, tubing and other related components for use in obtaining access to portions of a patient's vascular system may be included. Various types of connectors for communicating fluids with and/or monitoring a patient's vascular system may be provided. Such kits may contain medications, drugs and fluids used to treat a wide variety of both acute and chronic diseases and conditions.

Vascular access kits and methods

Apparatus and methods are provided to penetrate a bone and associated bone marrow using a powered driver. The apparatus may include a housing; a drive shaft comprising a first end disposed within the housing and a second end extending from the housing, the second end of the drive shaft configured to releasably engage the intraosseous device; a motor disposed within the housing and rotatably engaged with the drive shaft; a rechargeable power supply configured to supply power to the motor; an electrical charging circuit configured to recharge the rechargeable power supply; and a visual indicator indicating a status of the rechargeable power supply. The apparatus may also include an electrical power circuit configured to measure one of torque and current flow through the motor.
