A system and method are provided of minimizing network bandwidth used from an external network by client peers in a local network. The method can include the operation of organizing a plurality of clients each having media streamlets and a client parent in a structure within the local network. Mapping information propagates through the structure. The mapping information represents local streamlet locations as stored by the plurality of clients. Another operation is retrieving a local streamlet from a client identified in the mapping information as having the local streamlet for the requesting client.

System and method of minimizing network bandwidth retrieved from an external network

Systems and methods for backing up data are provided. Data objects or blocks of data can be encrypted with individualized keys. The keys are generated from the unencrypted data objects or blocks. The encrypted data objects or blocks and fingerprints of the encrypted data objects or blocks can be uploaded to a datacenter. Even though the data objects or blocks are encrypted, deduplication can be performed by the datacenter or before the data object is uploaded to the datacenter. In addition, access can be controlled by encrypting the key used to encrypt the data object with access keys to generate one or more access codes. The key to decrypt the encrypted data object is obtained by decrypting the access code.

Systems and methods for maintaining a datacenter are provided. A repair component includes modules that are configured to scan the data objects based on the identifiers of the data objects, identify potential issues or concerns with the data objects, and then repair the issues as they are discovered or over time. This operation can include appropriately apportioning and managing bandwidth and/or processing power allotments between the video players based on the priority assignments when the bandwidth and/or processing power is less than what the video players want to consume A modify playback message may be sent to at least one video player when the video playback rate is not sustainable or has become sustainable again.

A system and method are provided for managing multiple video players executing on a client software platform. Each video player can have at least one video data stream supplied over a data network. A priority value can be applied to selected video players, and an amount of available bandwidth can be determined. The determined amount of available bandwidth may also be used to calculate whether the selected video players can sustain a video playback quality above a pre-defined threshold. This operation can include appropriately apportioning and managing bandwidth and/or processing power allotments between the video players based on the priority assignments when the bandwidth and/or processing power is less than what the video players want to consume. A modify playback message may be sent to at least one video player when the video playback rate is not sustainable or has become sustainable again.

Other example embodiments include a method and computer program product that process a request priority message, processing a global priority message including a requested transaction and apply the requested transaction.

Method and apparatus for ensuring consistent ordering of writes in a distributed database storage system

An improved technique of redistributing files on a set of storage disks involves specifying a tolerable difference in the load between a most-loaded storage disk and a least-loaded storage disk. From such a specified tolerable difference, a processor generates a file transfer plan listing a set of files to be moved, from which storage disks the files are to be moved and to which storage disks to move the files. File transfer plans which result from allowing the maximum difference in load between the storage disks to be a small but finite amount typically result in a very small number of files to be moved, resulting in much smaller processing times for transferring the files.
