Disclosed are systems, circuits and methods related to low-loss bypass of a radio-frequency (RF) filter or diplexer. In some embodiments, a switching network circuitry can include a first switch that has an input pole configured to receive a radio-frequency (RF) signal, a pass-through throw configured to be connectable to the input pole to allow routing of the RF signal to an RF component, and at least one dedicated bypass throw configured to be connectable to the input pole and at least one bypass conduction path. The switching network circuitry can further include a second switch that has a pole and a throw, and is connectable between an output of the RF component and the bypass conduction path. Use of the dedicated bypass throw(s) in the first switch allows implementation of low-loss bypass of the filter or diplexer.

Radio frequency architectures and methods providing switchable bypass and pass-through paths

Provided herein are apparatus and methods for reconfigurable directional couplers in an RF transceiver. Reconfigurable directional couplers can be reconfigured and designed to provide high directivity using configurable capacitors to effect a mutual coupling and using lumped components or delay lines to effect a phase shift. Depending on the embodiment, the reconfigurable directional coupler can include capacitors, inductors, and switching components. The coupler can be designed for multi-band operation with an adjustable coupling factor conducive to semiconductor process integration. The coupler can have variable phase shifters to achieve a desired level of directivity in the coupler.

Apparatus for reconfigurable directional couplers in an RF transceiver with controllable capacitive coupling

Provided herein are methods of reconfiguring directional couplers in an RF transceiver. The methods can include designing and reconfiguring the directional couplers to provide high directivity and a desired coupling factor using configurable capacitors to effect a mutual coupling and using lumped components or delay lines to effect a phase shift. The reconfigurable directional couplers can be designed for multi-band operation with an adjustable coupling factor conducive to semiconductor process integration. The reconfigurable directional couplers can have variable phase shifters to achieve a desired level of directivity in the coupler. In various examples, the methods include monitoring the frequency of power signals received by the reconfigurable directional couplers, and adjusting the configurable capacitors and/or variable phase shifters to maintain desired directivity and coupling factors over multi-band operation of the reconfigurable directional couplers.

In one example a multi-output electromagnetic coupler includes a main coupler transmission line extending between and electrically connecting an input port and an output port, a first coupled line section configured to couple electromagnetic power in a first frequency band from the main coupler transmission line to provide a first coupled output signal at a first coupled port, and a second coupled line section configured to couple electromagnetic power in a second frequency band from the main coupler transmission line to provide a second coupled output signal at a second coupled port simultaneously with the first coupled output signal being provided at the first coupled port.

The switch network can electrically connect a termination impedance to the isolated port in the first state, and the switch network can decouple an RF signal traveling between the power input port and the power output port from the isolated port and the coupled port in a second state.

Aspects of this disclosure relate to a radio frequency coupler and a switch between a port of the radio frequency coupler and an adjustable termination impedance circuit. In an embodiment, an apparatus includes a radio frequency (RF) coupler, a termination impedance circuit, and a switch circuit. The RF coupler can provide an indication of forward RF power at a coupled port in a forward power state and provide an indication of reverse RF power at an isolated port in a reverse power state. The termination impedance circuit can provide an adjustable termination impedance. The switch circuit can electrically connect the termination impedance circuit to the isolated port in the forward power state and electrically isolate the termination impedance circuit from the isolated port of the RF coupler in the reverse power state.
