For example, identified high evening users can be sent an email with normative comparisons on evening load use, along with tips to reduce energy usage. By taking into consideration the user's actual energy consumption patterns, the system may be able to provide more relevant content to the user.

A computer-implemented method includes steps for identifying a plurality of similar users that are similar to a target user, and providing a notification to the target user, the notification comprising a suggested action for the target user. In certain aspects, a method of the subject technology can further include steps for providing comparison information to the target user, wherein the comparison information includes participation information regarding participation for the plurality of similar users, with respect to the suggested action.

User segmentation to provide motivation to perform a resource saving tip

The subject technology provides for identifying a set of similar users. Energy usage data is retrieved for the set of similar users. Next, based at least on the retrieved energy usage data, a comparison of energy usage of each user in the set of similar users is performed. Based on the comparison of energy usage, at least one user is selected from the set of similar users to include in a campaign. A target for energy usage is then identified for the at least one user.
