Embodiments of the invention are related generally to electromagnetic machines and, more particularly, to a suspension system and related methods for the attachment of the stator core of an electromagnetic machine to a surrounding frame or enclosure. In one embodiment, the invention provides a system for supporting a stator core of an electromagnetic machine, the system comprising: a rigid frame structure including: an upper portion; and a lower portion beneath the upper portion; a first plurality of wire rope members, each having a first end and a second end; and a first plurality of attachment devices for affixing at least one of the first end or the second end of each of the first plurality of wire rope members to the upper portion.

The present application provides a combined stator wedge driver and bar jacking tool for positioning a stator bar and a stator wedge into place along a slot of a stator core. The combined stator wedge driver and bar jacking tool may include a bar jacking tool to drive the stator bar into the slot and a stator wedge driver to drive the stator wedge on top of the stator bar in the slot. The bar jacking tool and the stator wedge driver extend from a common housing.

Method for handling a stator bar

A liquid-cooled armature bar end fitting-to-strand brazed connection. The end fitting is comprised of a main body and a cover, and defines a cavity, a bottom wall of which is defined in part by the cover. An armature winding bar strand package including solid strands and hollow strands arranged in a tiered array extends into the end fitting so that at least the free ends of the hollow strands extend beyond the bottom wall, into the cavity. The side wall of the cavity is spaced from the hollow strands. A braze alloy joins the strands to each other and to the end fitting. The braze alloy forms an isolation layer over the free ends of the solid strands and over the said bottom wall of the cavity to a depth above a horizontal junction between the main body and the cover.

A clamp for attaching a clip to an end of a stator bar including: an anchor adapted to fit into an open end of the clamp; a bracket having a first leg extending radially from the anchor and a second leg substantially perpendicular to the first leg, wherein the second leg has a distal end with a pivot point; at least one alignment post on an inside surface of the second leg; a lever arm pivotably attached to the pivot point on the second leg of the bracket, the lever arm further including a lip on a first end of the arm and adapted to releasably engage an edge of a cover to clip, and an adjustment screw threaded through the lever arm and having a first screw end abutting an outside surface of the second leg of the bracket, wherein turning the screw pivots the lever arm and moves the lip towards or away from the cover.

A method to heat a stator bar and clip assembly in a brazing chamber including: placing the stator bar and clip assembly in the brazing chamber, wherein the assembly is seated in a heating coil; positioning a conductive mass between a press and the stator bar and clip; applying the press to the assembly while the assembly is seated in the coil; heating the stator bar and clip by applying energy to the coil; brazing the stator bar to the clip with the heat from the coil, and removing the press and cooling the brazed clip.

The method includes providing a first pair of opposing dies each comprising a first surface corresponding to a first pair of predetermined bends to be formed in a first strand of material, positioning the first strand of material at least partially between the first pair of opposing dies, moving the first pair of opposing dies with respect to one another to impart the first pair of predetermined bends in the first strand of material, providing a second pair of opposing dies each comprising a second surface corresponding to a second pair of predetermined bends to be formed in a second strand of material, positioning the second strand of material at least partially between the second pair of opposing dies, and moving the second pair of opposing dies with respect to one another to impart the second pair of predetermined bends in the second strand of material.

Methods and assemblies for bending strands of material

A brazing process is provided that addresses the braze joint failure problems encountered in some multi-nozzle combustion end covers. The brazing process embodying the invention provides optimal, predictable low cycle fatigue joint life in particular when brazing 304L stainless steel parts using Amdry 915 braze alloy. The invention was realized in particular in the combination of and application of tightly controlled vital variables of gap, braze alloy, braze peak temperature hold time, cooling (quench) rate, surface finish and braze media to optimal limits for the process parameters. The process provides robust/reliable design limits for braze joints experiencing stress during operation.

Multi-nozzle combustion end cover vacuum brazing process

A combustor/transition piece for a gas turbine including a double walled structure having a plurality of cooling channels, both axially and, in some cases, circumferential cross-flow passages positioned between the structure's inner member and the outer member to provide cooling air thereto, are formed in the area between the inner member of the combustor and the outer member thereof. The passages preferably extend both axially and circumferentially with respect to the direction of flow through the combustor/transition piece. The axial passages extend completely from one end to the other and the circumferential passages extend around the circumference of the combustor/transition piece. The addition of a circumferential cross-flow passage connecting axial flow coolant passages in double wall turbine components can prevent combustor/transition piece part failure due to axial passage inlet blockage without affecting normal, unblocked cooling. Double wall cooling structures are constructed using two unbonded members. The inner member is machined to form cooling passages. Differential thermal expansion (expansion of the outside diameter of the hot inner wall until contact is established with the inside diameter of the cooler outer wall) keeps the cylinders held tightly together. Double wall cooling structures are also constructed using two members shrink-fitted and then bonded together such as by welding. The inner member is machined to form the cooling passages. The improved thermal contact between the outer and inner members due to the joint reduces the thermally induced stresses in the two members.
