A catalysed filter for a positive ignition internal combustion engine comprises a porous filtering substrate having a total substrate length coated with a three-way catalyst washcoat composition comprising at least one precious metal selected from the group consisting of rhodium and one or both of platinum and palladium supported on a high surface area oxide, and an oxygen storage component, which composition being axially shared by a first zone comprising inlet surfaces of a first substrate length&#x3c;total substrate length and a second zone comprising outlet surfaces of a second substrate length&#x3c;total substrate length, wherein a sum of the substrate length in the first zone and the substrate length in the second zone&#x2267;100% and wherein one or both of the following applies: a washcoat loading in the first zone&#x3e;second zone; and a total precious metal loading in the first zone&#x3e;second zone.

Filter substrate comprising three-way catalyst

A catalyzed filter for filtering particulate matter from exhaust gas emitted from a positive ignition internal combustion engine comprises a ceramic porous wall-flow filter substrate having a total substrate length and having inlet channels defined in part by ceramic inlet wall surfaces and outlet channels defined in part by ceramic outlet wall surfaces, wherein the inlet surfaces are separated from the outlet surfaces by a first porous structure containing pores of a first mean pore size, wherein the porous substrate is coated in part with a catalyst washcoat composition, wherein a second porous structure of a washcoated part of the porous substrate contains pores of a second mean pore size, wherein the second mean pore size is less than the first mean pore size, which catalyst washcoat composition being disposed in a first zone comprising the inlet surfaces of a first substrate length less than the total substrate length, wherein a second zone comprising the outlet surfaces of a second substrate length contains no washcoat and wherein the sum of the substrate length in the first zone and the substrate length in the second zone is &#x3e;100%.

A positive ignition engine comprising an exhaust system, which comprises a catalysed filter for filtering particulate matter from exhaust gas emitted from a positive ignition internal combustion engine, which filter comprising a porous substrate having a total substrate length and having inlet surfaces and outlet surfaces, wherein the inlet surfaces are separated from the outlet surfaces by a first porous structure containing pores of a first mean pore size, wherein the porous substrate is coated with a washcoat composition which is a NOx absorber catalyst washcoat composition comprising at least one precious metal; or a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst washcoat composition, wherein a second porous structure of the washcoated porous substrate contains pores of a second mean pore size, wherein the second mean pore size is less than the first mean pore size, which NOx absorber catalyst washcoat or SCR catalyst washcoat being axially arranged on the porous substrate as a first zone comprising the inlet surfaces of a first substrate length less than the total substrate length and a second zone comprising the outlet surfaces of a second substrate length less than the total substrate length, wherein the sum of the substrate length in the first zone and the substrate length in the second zone is &#x2267;100%, wherein:

A filter for filtering particulate matter (PM) from exhaust gas emitted from a compression ignition engine, which filter comprising a porous substrate having inlet surfaces and outlet surfaces, wherein the inlet surfaces are separated from the outlet surfaces by a porous structure containing pores of a first mean pore size, wherein the porous substrate is coated with a wash coat comprising a plurality of solid particles comprising a molecular sieve promoted with at least one metal wherein the porous structure of the wash coated porous substrate contains pores of a second mean pore size, and wherein the second mean pore size is less than the first mean pore size.

An exhaust system for a vehicular positive ignition internal combustion engine comprises a filter for filtering particulate matter from exhaust gas emitted from the engine, which filter comprising a porous substrate having inlet and outlet surfaces, wherein the inlet surfaces are separated from the outlet surfaces by a porous structure containing pores of a first mean pore size, wherein the porous substrate is coated with a three-way catalyst washcoat comprising a plurality of solid particles wherein the porous structure of the washcoated porous substrate contains pores of a second mean pore size, which is less than the first mean pore size, and a three-way catalyst washcoat disposed on a separate substrate monolith located upstream of the filter, wherein a mass of three-way catalyst washcoat on the upstream substrate monolith is &#x2266;75% of the total mass of three-way catalyst washcoat in the exhaust system.
