Methods and systems may provide for identifying a thermal management setting in a computing system, and comparing the thermal management setting to valid configuration information. In addition, the thermal management setting may be modified if it does not comply with the valid configuration information, wherein the modification can cause the thermal management setting to comply with the valid configuration information. Additionally, a threat risk notification can be initiated in order to notify users of the non-compliance.

Securing thermal management parameters in firmware from cyber attack

Devices and techniques for implementing virtual system management controllers are described herein. A baseboard management controller (BMC) can include processing circuitry to monitor system sensors, and to provide monitoring information for system sensors responsive to requests for monitoring information. The processing circuitry may further implement a virtual satellite controller within a firmware stack. The BMC and the virtual satellite controller may comply with a specification of the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) family of specifications to provide monitoring information for the system sensors. Other embodiments are also described.

Systems and methods utilize a configurable and fault-tolerant baseboard management controller (BMC) arrangement in a multi-node system. In one example, the method may include designating a first BMC of the plurality of BMCs in a role of master BMC, determining that the first BMC can no longer serve the role of master BMC, and designating the BMC other than the first BMC to serve the role of the master BMC.

A method processes the outputs of a discrete sensor in a computer system. An initial value mask is applied to each one of the offset bits in the output of the discrete sensor. An initial value is obtained for each one of the offset bits in the output of the discrete sensor according to the initial value mask. It is next determined whether or not the offset bits in the output of the discrete sensor includes both initialization offset bits and transition offset bits. If the offset bits include both initialization offset bits and transition bits, only the initialization bits of an incoming mask corresponding to the output of the discrete sensor are reset.
