A dressing for managing an incision and surrounding tissue where edema and swelling may be present post-operation. The dressing may maximize coverage of area in articulating joints, such as a knee or elbow, while allowing for substantial range of motion. In some embodiments, the dressing may comprise an adhesive border configured to be adhered to skin around an articulating joint, a skin-interfacing fabric for minimizing skin irritation, a foam body for manifolding negative pressure and absorbing exudate and other body fluids, and a thin polymer film cap for sealing the assembly so negative pressure can be maintained throughout the dressing.

Area management of tissue sites on articulating joints

Some illustrative embodiments of an instillation assembly for treating a tissue site may include a fluid distribution lumen and a fluid hub that may define a fluid instillation pathway. The fluid distribution lumen may be defined by a first film layer and a second film layer, and the fluid hub may be positioned in fluid communication with the fluid distribution lumen. The instillation assembly may be used in combination with a reduced-pressure assembly that may define a reduced-pressure pathway separate from the fluid instillation pathway.

In some illustrative examples, a medical drape suitable for treating a tissue site may include an adherent surface including first adherent force profile oriented along a first axis and a second adherent force profile oriented along a second axis. In one example embodiment, an apparatus may include a panel with integrated fluid channels, wherein the panel and the fluid channel consist only of surfaces that can be manufactured with a straight-pull mold. A port may also be integrated into the panel to facilitate coupling the fluid channel to pneumatic components in an assembly. A seal may be secured to the panel over the fluid channel to form an integrated fluid conductor. The seal is preferably an adhesive label that can also be used for product labeling. Such an apparatus may be used in a control unit of a therapy system, employing several integrated fluid conductors. A method of manufacturing may include molding a panel, wherein the mold forms a channel integral to the panel. The panel and the channel preferably consist of surfaces that can be molded with a straight-pull mold.

A treatment system for applying negative pressure therapy and fluid instillation treatment to a tissue site, particularly an abdominal tissue site, is disclosed. In some embodiments, the treatment system may include a dressing member, a plurality of fluid removal pathways, a fluid instillation matrix, a drape, a negative-pressure source, and a fluid instillation source. Instillation fluid may be delivered from the fluid instillation source to the tissue site through the fluid instillation matrix, and negative pressure may be communicated and fluid withdrawn from the tissue site through the plurality of fluid removal pathways.

A system for providing instillation fluid to a deep abdominal wound includes an instillation module and a connection structure. The instillation module defines a first surface and a second, abdominal contents-facing surface. The instillation module includes a distribution hub configured to receive instillation fluid from an instillation fluid source. The connection structure includes a first surface, a second, abdominal contents-facing surface; and a flow path extending between the first surface and the second surface. The flow path includes an inlet configured to receive an instillation fluid conduit engaged with the instillation fluid source and an outlet in fluid communication with the instillation module. The flow path defines an axis extending between the inlet and the outlet. The flow path is configured to compress in a direction defined by the axis.

Systems and methods for managing pneumatic pathways in integrated multilayer wound dressings

A system for treating a deep abdominal wound. The system includes a wound dressing. The wound dressing includes a visceral-protective layer, a compressive layer, and a sealing layer. The visceral-protective layer is configured to be positioned in an open abdomen. The compressive layer is configured to be disposed proximate to the visceral-protective layer. The compressive layer includes a pattern of voids configured for anisotropic collapse of the compressive layer when under negative pressure. The sealing layer is configured to form a sealed space in the open abdomen. A negative pressure source configured to provide negative pressure to the compressive layer.
