An electrical feedthrough assembly for providing connection to components of a compressor includes a housing having an inner surface defining a channel. A sealed wire assembly is provided in the channel. The sealed wire assembly includes a body having an outer surface and a plurality of wires sealingly passing through the body.

Hermetic electrical feedthrough assembly for a compressor

A system and method for determining a fault condition in a compressor is provided. The current of a motor drive powering the compressor and the outdoor ambient temperature are measured and used to determine if a fault condition or a potential fault condition is present in the compressor. If a fault condition is determined to be present, the compressor can be shutdown to avoid damage to the compressor. If a potential fault condition is determined, remedial action can be taken to attempt to prevent the fault condition from occurring and shutting down the compressor.

System and method for detecting a fault condition in a compressor

A system and method for starting a compressor is provided. An amount of liquid refrigerant that is located in an oil sump of the compressor is determined. Using the determined amount of liquid refrigerant, a starting algorithm for the compressor is selected. The selected starting algorithm is configured to remove the determined amount of liquid refrigerant from the oil sump before the compressor reaches a preselected operating speed. The selected starting algorithm is then executed to start the compressor.

System and method for starting a compressor

A single piece offset mounting foot is positioned between the compressor and the floor of a cabinet for the compressor. The offset mounting foot has a main body having a geometric shape with a top and bottom surface connected by sidewalls that form a perimeter. A depression in the top surface receives a compressor and is offset in the direction of one of the sidewalls. A plurality of substantially equally spaced legs extend outward from the main body. The thickness of the offset mounting foot may be substantially uniform through the main body. The profile of the top surface in the main body is substantially concave forming a bowl-like surface that transitions smoothly from a minimum within the concave surface or concavity to a maximum in the direction toward the periphery and in the direction away from the center of the concavity. The bottom surface of the main body is configured or profiled to contact the floor or base of the cabinet into which the compressor is to be installed.

Offset mounting foot

A hermetic compressor unit housing comprised of a shell having a top section and a bottom section which receives the top section, the shell being formed of sheet metal and having generally cylindrical sidewalls wherein the sidewall taken in a generally axial direction is substantially straight, each shell section having an opening, a substantially cylindrical portion, and a closed end portion, the opening having a substantially circular horizontal cross-sectional geometry defined by a major axis and a minor axis, the horizontal cross-sectional geometry including substantially liner opposing sidewall portions preferably disposed adjacent to the intersection of the horizontal sectional geometry with the minor axis, and methods of aligning the shell sections for installation of fixtures and mating of the shell sections.

Compressor unit housing

A muffler system for a compressor includes an expansion chamber muffler for attenuating sound pressure pulses and an acoustic muffler for filtering high-frequency pressure pulsations. The acoustic muffler is connected inline along the discharge side of the compressor between the discharge port of the cylinder head and a discharge tube in fluid communication with the outlet port of the compressor housing. A conduit is in fluid communication between the outlet port of the compressor housing and the condenser to supply the flow of refrigerant therebetween. Interposed adjacent the compressor housing, but exterior to the compressor housing is an expansion chamber muffler in fluid communication with the conduit for further attenuating pressure pulses generated by operation of the compressor.

Discharge muffler placement in a compressor

A resistive muffler attenuates sound generated by the gas intake and suction valve during compressor operation of a refrigerant compressor. The resistive muffler is assembled inline with the suction gas flow of the compressor and is positioned within the compressor housing. The resistive muffler attenuates the sound generated by the compressor during its operation as refrigerant gas is drawn into the compressor from an evaporator and passes through the resistive muffler in transit to the suction valve and hence to the region of the compressor where the gas is physically compressed. The resistive muffler includes a muffler housing having an intake end and an exhaust end. An acoustic foam assembly is incorporated into the muffler housing. The acoustic foam assembly is selected on the basis of its ability to absorb sound over a broad range of frequencies and is the muffler containing the acoustic foam is assembled within the compressor so that the sound does not bypass the muffler and transmit significant amounts of the sound to the compressor housing. The acoustic foam remains chemically inert when exposed to the compressor fluids at elevated temperatures of operation, and retains its ability to absorb sound over a broad range of frequencies even when saturated with compressor fluids. The foam assembly should also be able to withstand very large pressure fluctuations without experiencing deterioration.

Resistive suction muffler for refrigerant compressors

A shell for a hermetic compressor unit, the shell having a top section or dome, and a bottom section, the dome having a unique shape which gives enhanced capacity for absorbing and attenuating structural and fluid transmitted wave energies emanating from the unit at wave frequencies of between 1,000 Hz and 2,000 Hz, while reducing total operating noise of the unit, the dome being formed of sheet metal and having a generally inverted cup-shaped configuration with generally cylindrical sidewalls and a top wall having a central portion surrounded by a peripheral portion, wherein the sidewall taken in a generally axial direction is substantially straight, wherein the central portion of the top constitutes from about 40 to about 90% of the total area of the top and has a generally hemispherical configuration on a mean radius of from about 6.5 to about 10.0 inches as measured from an origin point O.sub.2, and wherein the lower section of said shell has a generally cylindrical sidewall and an outwardly curved bottom wall of a generally hemispherical configuration, the ratio of the radius of curvature of the bottom wall to the diameter of the sidewall being from about 0.4 to about 2.0.

Compressor unit shell construction

A mounting grommet for compressors adapted for attachment to the mounting feet thereof and to the compressor mounts of a refrigeration unit, comprising an elastomeric, generally cylindrical body adapted for attachment to a compressor mount by bolt means passing through the bore of the body, a radially peripheral portion of the body being formed intermediate the length of said body to provide an upwardly extending annular shoulder adapted to contact and support a compressor foot and receive substantial downward force therefrom, the radially inner surface of the shoulder being spaced from radially outer and adjacent portions of the body, and the radially outer surface of the shoulder lying radially outwardly of all other peripheral portions of the body, to thereby provide a diagonal shear or distortion line in response to the application of downward force to the shoulder.

Vibration isolating mounting grommet

A suction noise attenuator adapted for mounting on a tubular, suction conduit of a gas compressor, the conduit having a gas port through the wall thereof, the attenuator having a shell formed with generally opposed, first and second end walls and generally opposed first and second side walls, all of the walls having proximal and distal portions relative to the suction conduit, the proximal portions being resiliently deformable and the combined edges thereof providing a substantially continuous perimeter mounting face, a distal wall interconnecting the distal portions of all the walls to define an attenuation cavity, the mounting face further defining an inlet to the cavity, the edges of the end walls being concave and adapted to conform substantially to the periphery of the conduit as the attenuator is pressed thereagainst, at least one locator device on the shell adapted for coupling with at least one locator device on the conduit for operatively positioning the attenuator on the conduit to connect the port and cavity in fluid communication, and shoulders on an exterior surface of the shell adapted for retaining a clip fastening device in operative position thereon for securing the attenuator to the conduit.
