Luminaires are described herein employing waveguides and associated architectures for dynamic alteration of illuminance distribution patterns. The waveguide includes a light extraction component. The waveguide transmits light from a light source to the light extraction component by total internal reflection (TIR). The light extraction component includes one or more reversibly moveable surfaces for altering illuminance distribution patterns of the luminaire in response to one or more forces applied to the light extraction component by a force application assembly of the luminaire.

Waveguide-based light sources with dynamic beam shaping

Luminaires are described herein employing waveguides and associated architectures for dynamic alteration of illuminance distribution patterns. In one aspect, a luminaire described herein comprises a waveguide body and light sources having differing angular positions relative to the waveguide body for altering illuminance distribution patterns of the luminaire according to one or more activation patterns of the light sources. The differing angular positions can be located at the perimeter of the waveguide body and/or at one or more internal locations of the waveguide body.

A luminaire includes an optical waveguide having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface, and a light source associated with the optical waveguide. At least about 80% of light produced by the light source is directed by the waveguide into an illumination distribution emitted from the first surface of the optical waveguide.

Waveguide having unidrectional illuminance

An aqueous novelty apparatus operable to provide a visual effect of a forward motion using a first liquid and a second liquid that are immiscible. The apparatus further includes a support frame having a base and a first vertical support and a second vertical support. The support frame is operable to suspend a vessel in an angular orientation. The vessel has an interior volume that is substantially hollow having the first liquid and second liquid disposed therein. A pumping system is operably coupled to the vessel and in fluid communication with the first liquid and in conjunction with the angular orientation of the vessel promotes the flow of the first liquid from one end of the vessel to a second end. A flow path disruption member shaped as a boat is disposed within the vessel and engages the flow path and results in the appearance of forward motion.
