A system and method include a seat assembly including a seat duct fluidly coupled to one or more air outlets. An air delivery manifold is underneath the seat assembly. The air delivery manifold includes a first outlet port. The seat duct is fluidly coupled to the first outlet port. Air is delivered to the one or more air outlets via the air delivery manifold.

Ventilation systems and methods for internal cabins of vehicles

A headrest ventilation assembly is configured to secure to a headrest of a seat assembly, and includes an air conduit including one or more air inlets and one or more air outlets, and an air filter disposed within the air conduit between the one or more air inlets and the one or more air outlets. The air filter is configured to remove contaminants from the air that is drawn into the air conduit before being delivered out of the one or more air outlets. The assembly can also include a fan disposed on or within the air conduit. The fan is configured to draw the air into the one or more air inlets and provide airflow to deliver the air out of the one or more air outlets. The assembly can also include one or more ultraviolet (UV) light emitters disposed on or within the air conduit. The UV light emitter(s) are configured to emit UV light into the air to sanitize the air before the air is delivered out of the one or more air outlets.

Headrest ventilation systems and methods for seating assemblies

Described herein are methods and systems for decontaminating aircraft cabins and providing an indication to provide confidence that the cabins are safe for reentry post-operation. These methods and systems are based on reducing concentrations of infectious agents inside a cabin utilizing outside air and/or filtered air. In some examples, a method is performed after a certain contamination event (e.g., a sick person present on a flight and/or as a part of periodic service (e.g., in between flights. The amount of time the system is run to introduce compounds into the cabin is specifically calculated to lower the fraction of the remaining infectious agents below a certain desired level, thereby reducing the contamination concentration in the cabin from the initial concentration. The decontamination duration depends on the cabin volume and the incoming airflow rates. For example, the fraction of the remaining is brought below 5% after 9 minutes of flowing incoming air at 20 air changes per hour.

Methods and systems for decontaminating aircraft cabins and providing indications for safe reentry

A ventilation assembly comprises a number of fan systems configured to purify air and a number of air distribution assemblies. Each air distribution assembly of the number of air distribution assemblies is configured to be removably installed on a seatback of a passenger seat. Each air distribution assembly of the number of air distribution assemblies comprises a pair of air distribution vents, ductwork configured to receive air from at least one fan system of the number of fan systems and direct air to the pair of air distribution vents, and a seat attachment device configured to removably couple the pair of air distribution vents to the seatback such that each air distribution vent is situated on opposite sides of the seatback for providing purified air to a seated passenger.

Ventilation assembly in an aircraft

An environmental control system is provided. The system includes a sorbent regeneration device. The sorbent regeneration device includes at least one regenerative sorbent material operative to remove gas substances from air. The at least one regenerative sorbent material is operatively coupled to a source of hot air. The sorbent regeneration device further includes at least two bypass valves that are operative to selectively direct some or all of the hot air into the at least one regenerative sorbent material. The environmental control system further includes one or more air quality sensors and a controller operatively connected to the at least two bypass valves and the one or more air quality sensors. The controller is operative to control one or more of the at least two bypass valves in response to air quality determined from the air quality sensors.

Systems, devices and methods for regeneration of a sorbent

A method for evaluating an air purification system. The method includes generating, with an air flow generator, a flow of air through a test filter so that an upstream air flow exists an upstream side of the test filter and a downstream air flow exists on a downstream side of the test filter. A multiple contaminant mixture is injected, with a fluid injector, into the upstream air flow. Downstream concentrations for each contaminant of the multiple contaminant mixture in the downstream air flow are measured with a contaminant measurement device. Test filter breakthrough curves for each contaminant of the multiple contaminant mixture in the downstream air flow are generated based on the downstream concentrations for each contaminant of the multiple contaminant mixture.

System and methods for evaluating an air purification system

A compact, lightweight, low power aircraft air filtration and VOC removal unit enables the removal of VOCs from cabin air in a passenger aircraft. A plurality of baffles having air flow-through airflow spaces are spaced apart along a duct. UV LEDs are mounted on the interior sides of the outermost baffles, and on both sides of all interior baffles. A filter module is disposed between pairs of baffles, and spaced from the baffles sufficiently to illuminate the entirety of both sides. Each filter modules comprises a plurality of filters. The filters are selected from a coarse foam, a fine foam, or a fused quartz filament felt. Each filter is loaded with a catalyst including one or more of AEROXIDE&#xae; P25, other pure titanium dioxide (TiO), iron-doped TiO, carbon-doped TiO, and combinations thereof. The catalysts on the filters, under UV illumination, chemically reduce VOCs in the airflow to non-VOC molecules.

Aircraft air purification and volatile organic compounds reduction unit

An Environmental Control Systems (ECS) for an aerospace vehicle comprises an air supply airflow path inputting, monitoring, and conditioning air from external to the vehicle, and a recirculation airflow path inputting, monitoring, filtering, and moving air from one portion of the interior of the vehicle to another portion. The air supply airflow can include a dynamically controlled VOC/ozone converter, which can be operated when the aerospace vehicle is on the ground. The recirculation airflow path can include a dynamically controlled regenerative gas contaminant filter and/or VOC/CO2 removal device. The filter/adsorption media of the controlled regenerative gas contaminant filter and/or VOC/CO2 removal device can be regenerated by suppling hot air or a vacuum, and gaseous contaminants can be broken down for removal from the regenerative gas contaminant filter by controlling UV irradiation. The controller can alert a flight crew if air quality falls outside predetermined or programmable parameters.

Aerospace vehicle environmental control system

A method for providing purified air to an occupant of a seat in a mask lacking corporeal features that is generated by an apparatus. The apparatus includes a contaminant conditioning system that delivers purified air to a first and a second laminar flow generator. Each laminar flow generator produces a respective laminar flow that combines to form and fill a breathing space with purified air that envelopes an inhalation sphere of the occupant and inhibits air other than the purified air from entering the breathing space.

Personal ventilation in an aircraft environment

An environmental control system includes an air supply system coupled to an aircraft. The air supply system includes an external air supply device coupled to the aircraft and a supply duct coupled in flow communication to the external air supply device. An air supply outlet is coupled in flow communication to the supply duct and in flow communication with an occupancy zone and/or a floor distribution section. An air recirculation system is coupled to the floor distribution section. The air recirculation system includes a recirculation supply device coupled to the aircraft and a recirculation duct coupled in flow communication to the recirculated supply device and coupled to the floor distribution section. A recirculation outlet is coupled in flow communication to the recirculation duct and in flow communication with the recirculation zone and/or the floor distribution section.

Environmental control system and methods of operating same

Systems and methods for providing airflow in an aerospace vehicle are disclosed. A system in accordance with one embodiment includes an aerospace vehicle having an interior volume with a first portion and a second portion. The system can further include an external air supply device positioned to provide supply air to the interior volume at a variable supply flow rate and a recirculation fan configured to move air positioned within the interior volume between the first portion of the interior volume and the second portion of the interior volume. The system can still further include a controller operably coupled to the recirculation fan and configured to vary a rotation speed of the recirculation fan. Variations in the rotation speed of the recirculation fan can be associated with variations in a recirculation flow rate. In selected embodiments, the system can include sensors and/or data link devices operably coupled to the controller.
