A transport refrigeration unit includes an integrally mounted unitary engine driven generator wherein the generator is cooled by the circulation of oil over the stator coils and the rotor to thereby provide a cooling system that is closed from the outside environment and capable of increased cooling efficiencies. In one embodiment, the circulation of the engine oil is integrated into the generator such that its serves the dual purpose of cooling the generator. In other embodiments, the oil is contained entirely within the generator and is circulated by various means such as by a pump and spray, a slinger or total immersion.

Oil cooled generator for trailer refrigeration unit

An evaporator unit for use in the passenger compartment of a small bus that includes a low profile cabinet mounted in the ceiling of the passenger compartment against the back wall of the compartment. The cabinet contains a housing having a floor that slants downwardly from front to back and an evaporator coil is mounted in the front of the housing that is tilted rearwardly to reduce the height of the cabinet. A tangential blower wheel is mounted behind the coil and arranged to pass air from an inlet in the floor of the housing through the coil and out of the cabinet outlet. A shroud surrounds the blower wheel that cooperates with a baffle plate to efficiently conduct air through the unit. The top edge of the baffle forms the lower lip of the shroud exit region and the plate extends downward so that its lower edge is adjacent to the bottom of the coil to establish a converging air passage with the rear face of the coil to evenly distributes the air flow passing through the coil. A pan is mounted in the floor of the housing to collect condensate from the coil. The pan is exposed to a portion of the blower wheel so that positive pressure developed by the wheel helps to force collected condensate out of the back of the unit.

Evaporator unit for small bus

An engine starter has a plunger electromagnetically actuated by holding and attracting coils to move a pinion toward a ring gear on the engine and also to move a first movable contact on the plunger towards first and second stationary contacts to be electrically connected together by the first movable contact to electrically energize a starter motor. Completion of the circuit between the movable contact and the stationary contacts also serves to de-energize the attracting coil which may be damaged if energized for too long. Control means are provided to determine the voltages at each of the fixed contacts. The difference between the monitored voltages is determined and compared to a reference voltage differential. If the difference is not less than or equal to the reference voltage differential, the controller is programmed to know that the circuit has not been completed, and in order to avoid damage to the attracting coil and the starter, power is interrupted to the starter circuit.
