A procedure for providing an overlay on a concrete slab or similar subsurface including the steps of placing a plurality of anchor holes into the concrete slab to be repaired and/or providing an anchor channel at its periphery, providing a bed of fibers on the exposed surface of said concrete slab and extending into and filling said anchor holes and/or channel, infiltrating a flowable cement slurry throughout the fibers and into the anchor holes and/or anchor channel, and curing the slurry to form an overlay which has integral fiber-reinforced anchor portions extending into the slab.

A metal encased concrete barrier for the walls of the bodies and doors of safes or vaults having new formulations of particular metal fiber and ceramic aggregate reinforcing constituents is described which provides enhanced burglary attack resistance for money safes or vaults. New procedures also are described for casting the Portland Cement, steel fiber, and fractured fused alumina aggregate phases or constituents of the protective barrier, copper members being cooperatively integrated in the barrier.

A new castable steel fiber reinforced concrete composition is described composed of Portland Cement, fly ash, fine aggregate, gravel or crushed stone, water, high range superplasticizing water-reducing admixture, and steel fibers. The concrete may be mixed in conventional mixers and cast in open top molds to form modular panels for use in the construction of security vaults. The cast panels have outstanding engineering properties resistant to burglarious attack measures such that multi-paneled vault walls resist burglarious attack as outlined in Underwriters Laboratories Standard No. 608 in thicknesses of 8 inches for 1 hour and 11 inches for 2 hours. New casting procedures for the concrete and new vault construction procedures using modular panels cast from the concrete also are described.

A heavy duty, wear, crack and spall-resistant concrete composite floor tile comprising: a concrete substrate layer containing 4 to 16 volume percent of dispersed, fine metal fibers and, a wear-resistant concrete surface layer containing about 30 to 60 volume percent of wear-resistant, metallic or inorganic aggregate, or 4 to 16 volume percent fine metal fibers, said tile being further characterized in that the layers are bonded to each other by a plurality of metal fibers having one end embedded in and bonded to the substrate layer and the other end embedded in and bonded to the surface layer, and when said surface layer contains said metal fibers, said fibers are present therein in an amount greater than the amount of said fibers in said substrate layer.

Highly wear-resistant steel fiber reinforced concrete tiles

A highly reinforced refractory is disclosed. In accordance with the invention higher reinforcement of refractory shapes such as plunging bells or injection lances is achieved by infiltrating a bed of metal fibers in a mold with an aqueous slurry of a refractory material containing a superplasticizer. Refractory Concrete comprises e.g. calcium aluminate cement, alumina aggregate of 35 mesh or less maximum particle size, sulfonated naphthalene formaldhyde as superplasticizer and greater than 4 volume % metal (steel) fibers.

Crack and wear resistant concrete overlays for renovation or patching of deteriorated sections over a substratum can be made by incorporating 4-12 volume percent steel fibers in the concrete overlay and bonding at least a portion of the fibers directly to the substratum.

A fiber-free plaster molding composition which comprises by weight approximately 50-70% gypsum plaster, 5-25% fine expanded perlite, and 5-30% of a non-fibrous filler such as mica, silica, fly ash, pyrophyllite or mixtures thereof. The composition of this invention has good dry blending properties, slurry characteristics, and wet and dry mold features, making it a suitable replacement for fiber-containing molding compositions for low fusion metal casting molds.

Plaster molding composition

A fibrous talc-free plaster molding composition comprises by weight approximately 50-70% gypsum plaster, 5-20% fibrous wollastonite, 5-25% fine expanded perlite, and 0-40% of a filler selected from the group consisting of sand, fly ash, pyrophyllite and mixtures thereof. The composition of this invention has good dry blending properties, slurry characteristics, and wet and dry mold features, making it a suitable replacement for fibrous talc-containing molding compositions for low fusion metal casting molds.

A method of making a two-phase material comprising a mix of concrete and fibers of a material having a modulus of elasticity of at least about 20 million psi substantially uniformly distributed therein with an average spacing between fibers of up to about 0.3 inch. The flexural strengths are measured for a plurality of substantially different average bond areas of the fibers per unit area in planes normal to tensile stress in test specimens of the two-phase material, and the fibers are provided and distributed in such quantity in the bulk mix that the average bond area of the fibers intersecting planes normal to the stress at known regions of highest tensile stress is sufficient to provide at least a preselected flexural strength in such regions.
