A method for aligning a tree within a resource extraction system includes disposing a riser system on a wellhead of the resource extraction system without utilizing a mechanical alignment system to circumferentially align the riser system with the wellhead. The method also includes disposing a tubing hanger at a landed position within the wellhead. In addition, the method includes disposing an orientation mechanism on the wellhead. The orientation mechanism includes an alignment feature configured to engage a corresponding alignment feature of the tree. Furthermore, the method includes moving the tree toward the wellhead such that the alignment feature of the tree engages the alignment feature of the orientation mechanism to approximately establish a target circumferential orientation of the tree relative to the tubing hanger.

Tree orientation system and method for a resource extraction system

A technique is provided for properly orienting a subsea tree with respect to a tubing hanger landed in a subsea wellhead. An alignment ring is rotationally positioned on the subsea wellhead such that a coarse alignment feature of the alignment ring is at a desired angular orientation with respect to a fine alignment feature on the tubing hanger. The alignment ring is then secured to the subsea wellhead. Subsequently, a subsea tree may be rotationally oriented with respect to the tubing hanger as the subsea tree is landed on the subsea wellhead. As the subsea tree engages the coarse alignment feature, the coarse alignment feature guides the subsea tree into engagement with the fine alignment feature of the tubing hanger to ensure proper rotational orientation as landing of the subsea tree is completed.

Tubing hanger orientation system and techniques

A subsea system includes in-riser equipment, and a surrounding structure configured to be coupled to a marine riser and a subterranean well. The in-riser equipment is positioned within the surrounding structure, and the surrounding structure comprises a power connection extending radially therethrough. The system also includes a power supply located outside of the surrounding structure. The power supply is connected to the in-riser equipment via the power connection through the surrounding structure, to communicate with the in-riser equipment.

A technique facilitates deployment of equipment, e.g. an electric submersible pumping system, in a subsea production operation. According to an embodiment, a subsea tree assembly, e.g. a horizontal subsea tree assembly, comprises a spool body housing having a channel extending therethrough. A production receptacle structure is secured within the channel and provides a reduced internal profile for securing wellbore equipment. For example, the internal profile may be constructed to sealably receive a cable hanger used to support power cable by which an electric submersible pumping system may be suspended. The production receptacle structure also may be equipped with a production stab for interfacing with a tubing hanger located below the production receptacle structure.

Subsea system and methodology utilizing production receptacle structure

A system and method for accessing a well, in certain embodiments, includes a production tree, a cap, and a spool including a longitudinal bore configured to receive a tubing hanger. The tubing hanger includes a longitudinal bore configured to transfer product between the spool and the production tree. At least one adjustable fluid barrier is included in the tubing hanger and/or the cap. The adjustable fluid barrier can be used to open and close the longitudinal passage and allow access through the tubing hanger and/or the cap.

System and method for accessing a well

A technique facilitates protection of potentially susceptible components from unwanted exposure to well fluids or other fluids in a monobore subsea installation. The subsea installation may comprise various components, e.g. a tubing hanger and a subsea tree which form a plenum region therebetween. An annulus stab (or stabs) is positioned to extend between the tubing hanger and the subsea tree so as to provide an isolated flow path within the annulus stab and through the plenum region. The isolated flow path also may extend longitudinally through the tubing hanger until exiting through a side of the tubing hanger. The annulus stab and overall isolated flow path are thus able to accommodate an annulus flow within the monobore subsea installation while protecting components exposed to the plenum region from contact with deleterious fluids in the annulus flow path.

A system and method for accessing a well is disclosed. The system includes a first cap positionable within a bore of a completion member such as a tree or a spool. The first cap has a sealable interface to accept a second cap, and the second cap when sealed to the first cap is capable of providing a barrier against a release of well fluid external to the well.

A system for producing or injecting fluids through a tubing hanger connected with a tubing string. The system includes a subsea tree with a tree flow passage and a tree annulus flow passage. The system includes a spool assembly separate from the subsea tree that includes a body with a spool longitudinal passage. The spool assembly also includes a spool lateral flow passage extending laterally from the spool longitudinal passage and configured to transfer the fluids to or from the tree flow passage. The spool assembly also includes a spool annulus flow passage in fluid communication with an annulus. The system includes a mating hub connection between the spool assembly and the subsea tree. The mating hub connection includes a connection configured to fluidly connect the spool lateral passage and the tree passage and an annulus connection configured to fluidly connect the spool annulus passage with the tree annulus passage.

A subsea production system for a well including a subsea production tree, a tubing hanger, and a production tubing extending into the well and supported by the tubing hanger. A downhole equipment suspension system includes a suspension head supported directly or indirectly by the production tree above and separately from the tubing hanger. The suspension system also includes downhole equipment inside the production tubing below the tubing hanger and a suspension line extending through the tubing hanger vertical production bore and the production tree vertical bore. The suspension line suspends the downhole equipment from the suspension head.

A system for producing well production fluids through a tubing hanger connected with a tubing string, in certain embodiments, includes a subsea tree and a tubing spool. The subsea tree includes a production flow passage, and the tubing spool includes a longitudinal bore configured to receive the tubing hanger and a lateral production flow passage configured to transfer well production fluids to the production flow passage of the subsea tree. The subsea tree and the tubing spool are configured to be run and retrieved independently of one another in any order.

Modular subsea completion

A system, in certain embodiments, includes a tubing hanger running tool (THRT) configured to position a tubing hanger within a wellhead. The THRT includes an integrated pressure equalization system including a tube having a first end in fluid communication with an annulus of the wellhead, and a second end in fluid communication with a control line. The integrated pressure equalization system also includes a piston disposed within the tube. The piston is configured to move within the tube to balance a pressure differential between a first fluid within the annulus and a second fluid within the control line.

A subsea well installation assembly for installing a tubing hanger in a subsea well includes a spool with a spool orientation feature and a running tool connectable to the tubing hanger with a running tool orientation feature. The tubing hanger is rotatable to the predetermined orientation by movement of the running tool with respect to the spool such that the running tool orientation feature engages the spool orientation feature, and the tubing hanger is landable in the predetermined orientation by movement of the running tool with respect to the spool such that the running tool orientation feature engages the spool orientation feature.

A system, in some embodiments, for producing well production fluids through a tubing hanger connected with a production tubing string. The system includes a subsea tree with a production flow passage and a tree annulus flow passage. The system also includes a spool assembly separate from the subsea tree that includes a body with a longitudinal passage configured to receive and support the tubing hanger, there being an annulus between the production tubing string and the body. The spool assembly also includes a lateral flow passage extending from the spool longitudinal passage and configured to transfer the production fluids. Further, the system includes an annulus flow passage extending externally from the spool assembly and in fluid communication with the annulus.

A subsea completion system for a subsea well includes a tubing spool including an internal bore formed therethrough and a tubing hanger movable into a landed position within the internal bore of the tubing spool. The tubing hanger includes a production bore formed therethrough, an auxiliary passage formed therethrough outside of the production bore, and a valve in fluid communication with the auxiliary passage to control the flow of fluid through the auxiliary passage.

A subsea completion for a well is presented that includes a tubing spool, a tubing hanger, a fluid coupling, an electrical coupling, a control system, a valve, and a production tree. The tubing spool includes a central bore, a side wall, and a fluid supply passage extending through the tubing spool. An electrical supply passage can also extend through the side wall of the tubing spool. The tubing hanger includes a fluid control passage. The tubing hanger can also include an electrical control passage. The control system includes a fluid control conduit to provide fluid to the tubing spool fluid supply passage from outside the tubing spool. The valve is connectable to the outside of the tubing spool to control fluid flow between the control system fluid conduit and the tubing spool fluid supply passage.
