A flow through isolation valve having a stationary member; a movable member, with a surface of the stationary member interfacing with a surface of the movable member; and at least one pin isolation valve. The pin isolation valve has a flow through internal conduit and is movable so that the internal conduit can fluidically communicate with at least one blank opening in the movable member and with a flow through internal conduit in the movable member. Movement is by rotation, linear or curvilinear translation. At least one pin isolation valve is fluidically coupled typically to a sample loop of a face seal valve, or to a pump supplying high pressure liquid to or to a column discharging liquid from a face seal valve of a high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) system or directly to the face seal valve.

Flow through isolation valve for high pressure fluids

A pin valve assembly and a method of controlling the flow of fluids comprising a pin block housing pin valves, a fluid plate with a fluid channel for fluidically communicating with the pin valves, and a fitting block housing fittings for fluidic communication with the fluid plate and for fluidic communication with fluidic components. The fluid flow through the channels of the fluid plate are controlled by the fluidic components and the pin valves.

In various embodiments a fluid control device suitable for high pressure analytical instruments includes a housing having an interior surface with an end wall. The interior surface defines a chamber. A valve assembly disposed in the chamber controls the flow of fluid through the chamber. An end cap is disposed in the housing opposite the end wall to enclose the chamber. The end wall and end cap each have an opening to pass a fluid to the chamber or to remove a fluid from the chamber. The housing and end cap each has an abutment surface to receive the other abutment surface. At least one of the abutment surfaces has a plastic seal coating. A means of compression, such as a compression housing and compression sleeve, is included to engage the end cap to deform the plastic seal coating between the abutment surfaces and thereby seal the chamber.

Fluid control device for a high pressure analytical instrument

The present invention provides a liquid handling system capable of automated dispensing and reformatting operations by virtue of a quick-release cannula array mounting system that permits cannula arrays to be changed automatically by the system or manually by a user. Automated changing of the cannula array is carried out by relative movement of the dispensing head and the sample support surface to deliver the attached cannula array to a storage location, releasing the array from the dispensing head, and attaching a new cannula array. Relative movement between the dispensing head and sample support surface in at least two dimensions increases flexibility of the system and makes self-loading of the cannula array practical. The system provides advantages in time and accuracy of cannula array changeover procedures. The automated cannula array changeover capability permits automated wellplate reformatting procedures, which can be performed quickly and accurately.

Scheduled system and method for processing chemical products

An apparatus for use in isolating solids from liquids by evaporating the liquid, including a vessel for receiving a composition of liquid and solid substances; a gas supply for supplying a drying gas; a gas line for directing the drying gas from the gas supply to the vessel; a liquid supply for supplying a solvent capable of dissolving the solid substance; and a liquid line for directing the solvent from the liquid supply to the vessel. Also included is a sensing means for sensing conditions of evaporation within the vessel and an automatic control system adapted to sequentially initiate a flow of drying gas to the vessel, initiate a flow of solvent to the vessel in response to sensing of a given evaporation condition by the sensing means, interrupt the flow of solvent to the vessel after a certain quantity of solvent has been received thereby, and interrupt the flow of drying gas to the vessel in response to sensing of a particular evaporation condition by the sensing means. The apparatus automatically produces an evaporation cycle, a solvent reconstitution cycle, and a re-evaporation cycle thereby significantly reducing previously required costly manual procedures.

Laboratory evaporation apparatus

An improved system for evaporating liquid to obtain solid residue where by small quantities of a solid are recovered from a first liquid medium and dissolved in another liquid medium. The invention comprises a receptacle for holding the liquid to be treated and structure which localizes entry of an evaporating, or carrier, gas along the wall of the receptacle as it moves downwardly and into contact with the material to be treated. Such localization of inlet gas also provides a relatively quiescent central zone in the receptacle through which exiting gas, carrying evaporated liquid, can be removed without disturbing the flow of inlet gas.

Laboratory evaporation

Improved means for evaporating liquid to obtain solid residue. The invention is particularly useful where small quantities of a solid is to be recovered from a first liquid medium and dissolved in another liquid medium. The invention comprises a receptable for holding the liquid to be treated and means to sense the temperature of the evaporating process and terminate the evaporating process at any appropriate predetermined temperature condition, thereby avoiding excessive drying of a particular material.

Control of laboratory evaporation

The bubble sensor is embodied in a liquid chromatographic system. In the exemplified system a sample conduit or loop which is already filled with liquid eluent communicates with the bore of a needle. The opening of the needle bore is immersed in a liquid sample so that the sample may be backfilled into the sample loop by the withdrawal of the syringe which communicates with the sample loop. After the liquid sample has been drawn into the sample conduit, the needle is lifted from the sample source and moved toward a final position in which the sample conduit will be placed in parallel with a primary conduit, so that the pump which pumps the liquid eluent will drive the sample from the opening toward the chromatrographic column. As the needle is being raised toward this position, it is stopped at an intermediate position in which the orifice is sealed. In this condition, the liquid sample is within the sample conduit which is part of a closed space between the orifice and the syringe. The syringe is now driven a small distance to reduce the volume of that space by a predetermined, programmed increment. The pressure before and after the change in the space may be compared to indicate the presence or absence of a bubble in the sample. A preferred way of proceeding is to determine the number of incremental changes of predetermined volume to bring the change in pressure up to a predetermined point, for example, 30 psig. If the number of such incremental changes is less than a predetermined number, then it may be presumed that the sample is free of bubble. If the number is greater than the predetermined number, a possible bubble inclusion is indicated and further action may be taken as more fully described hereinafter.

Bubble sensor and method

Low loss sample bottle assembly from which very small quantities of liquid can be removed safely, automatically and very nearly completely. The assembly comprises a spring mounted bottle having a small bottom compartment shaped to receive a needle and so sized with respect to the needle that substantially all liquid is forced from the compartment to an upper chamber and into the needle. The bottle is best equipped with a disposable, one piece, septum-like cap.

The apparatus utilizes the optimum embodiment of the apparatus being equipped with (a) novel seal means adapted to exert a radial thrust or wiping action on the conduit and (2) novel conduit working means featuring both a drip-proof means to supply a non-contaminating solvent for washing the exterior of the needle and means to remove such solvent, all without interfering with the use of the needle in a series of automatic injections.
