A blister package () of transparent plastics material having an actuation portion (), an electrical device such as a flashlight () with a slider switch () disposed at least partially within the package, the device including a battery power source () and an activatable component such as a LED or light; and a package switch () with actuation element () having an activation condition and a deactivation condition and being changeable from its deactivation condition to its activation condition. The package and device combination being configured for the power source to form part of a closed electrical circuit with, and to activate, the activatable component when the package switch is in its activation condition, and for the circuit to be open once the package switch has changed to its deactivation condition. The consumer can test the operation of the packaged flashlight by operating the switch () to illuminate either the LED () or the fluorescent tube ().

The present invention provides a lighting device having a battery housing to hold a battery, a light housing having a light source and a lens assembly into which said light source will emit light when activated, said battery and said light source being in circuit with a switch to open and close said circuit, said light housing being moveable relative to said battery housing to motivate said switch to open and/or close said circuit.

A lighting device which is adapted to be converted between a flashlight mode and an area light mode includes a housing to receive a power supply, a light source associated with the housing and a tubular lens surrounding the light source, a reflector mounted to said device so as to slide relative to the tubular lens, the reflector including an aperture through which the light source can pass, the aperture having a shutter associated therewith whereby the shutter closes the aperture when the reflector is in a position which allows the device to be used in the area light mode.
