A printhead is disclosed herein. The printhead includes a die substrate having a surface. A trench is defined in the die substrate surface, and a support is positioned in the trench. A compliant membrane is attached to the die substrate surface, and a gap is defined between a distal end of the support and the compliant membrane.

Crosstalk in a piezo printhead is reduced by selecting an actuation signal for a nozzle, determining a time delay and a pulse width extension based on adjacent actuation signals of adjacent nozzles, and applying the time delay and pulse width extension to the actuation signal.

A print head () includes a diaphragm () opposite a fluid chamber () having a side opening, a first end and a second end. The print head () further includes a support () extending from a floor () of the fluid chamber () to the diaphragm ().

A side shooting ink ejection device may comprise a front surface, side shooting nozzles having ejection orifices for ejecting fluid, and piezoelectric actuators for moving the fluid through vibration for ejecting the fluid out of the nozzle. The side shooting nozzles may be arranged to eject fluid in a side direction of the piezoelectric actuator. The front surface may comprise recessed portions. The side shooting nozzles may open into the recessed portions so that the ejection orifices are countersunk with respect to the front surface.

Piezoelectric actuation mechanism

A fluid ejection device includes a fluid chamber having a first sidewall and a second sidewall, a flexible membrane extended over the fluid chamber and supported at an end of the first sidewall and an end of the second sidewall, an actuator provided on the flexible membrane, a first gap provided between the flexible membrane and the end of the first sidewall, and a second gap provided between the flexible membrane and the end of the second sidewall, and compliant material provided within the first gap and within the second gap. As such, the actuator is adapted to deflect the flexible membrane relative to the fluid chamber.

Fluid ejection device

The photoresist barrier layer of an inkjet printer printhead is processed to enable channels narrower than a predetermined width in the barrier layer to be created without blockage. Relatively large volumes of photoresist which form a wall of the channel are exposed to a partial exposure of electromagnetic radiation to yield a reduced concentration of photoresist barrier layer in the large volume.

Fine detail photoresist barrier

A high resolution printer includes a printhead having optimized features including 12 to 14 micron diameter orifices spaced apart from adjacent orifices by a distance of between 76 to 94 microns. The orifice plate is electroformed and plated to a thickness ranging from 20 to 25 microns. A polymeric barrier layer secures the orifice plate to a printhead substrate.

High resolution inkjet printer

An ink jet print head apparatus having a reduced thickness passivation layer. Passivation layer thickness is preferably below 7000 angstroms to permit operation at a lower turn-on-energy. The passivation layer is preferably formed in a discrete manner and may include a nitride layer and a SiC layer. Various other layer arrangements are also described including the provision of a cavitation layer over the passivation layer. A thermal or other type of ink expulsion mechanism may be utilized.

Printhead apparatus

The photoresist barrier layer of an inkjet printer printhead is processed to enable channels narrower than a predetermined width in the barrier layer to be created without blockage. Relatively large volumes of photoresist which form a wall of the channel are exposed to a partial exposure of electomagnetic radiation to yield a reduced concentration of photoresist barrier layer in the large volume.

A printhead for an inkjet print cartridge capable of generating low drop weight ink drops is produced by reducing the dimensions of the firing chamber. A thinner orifice plate is needed to reliably achieve the lower drop weight ink drops. To overcome the material strength limitations of such a thinner orifice plate, an annealing step in the manufacture of the printhead is employed to modify the material properties of the orifice plate. This improved process improves the print quality of printers and aids in the production handling properties of the orifice plate. Orifice plates having a thickness in the range of 25 .mu.m to 40 .mu.m are being produced.

Reduced size printhead for an inkjet printer

Islands of barrier layer material of an inkjet printhead are disposed between an ink source and the ink feed channels leading to the ink firing chambers to filter particles in the ink. Dimensions of the ink feed channels and ink ejecting orifices have been reduced in size and the thickness of the barrier layer has been made thinner. The nominal size of the filter pores is less than the barrier layer thickness while the width of the ink feed channels and the bore diameter of the orifices is larger than the barrier layer thickness.
