A design and construction method for a Collapsible Cryogenic Storage Vessel can be used for storing cryogenic liquids. The vessel provides the ability to be packed for transport in a compact state and erected at the point of use. The vessel can be used multiple times. The vessel's volume can also be adjusted during use to minimize or eliminate head space in the vessel.

Collapsible cryogenic storage vessel

An Adjustable Pressure Suit Torso, which is a combination of a flexible pressure suit attached to rigid rings, in an assembly of rigid rings and brackets. The rigid rings form openings configured to receive the head, limbs and entry way of a wearer. These rigid rings are attached to one another by brackets, thereby forming an assembly of rigid rings and brackets. The flexible pressure suit is attached to the rigid rings, and otherwise constrained upon pressurization by the rigid ring and bracket assembly. The brackets can be offered in different sizes or made adjustable so as to vary the overall size of the rigid ring and bracket assembly. The flexible pressure suit can be provided in the largest possible wearer size (99percentile male) and any excess in the flexible suit when donned by a smaller wearer can be folded up while still constrained by the ring and bracket assembly.

This invention describes novel design and construction method for inflatable, pressure intensifier equipment that can be used for processing composites structures. The equipment can be used as a manufacturing and processing platform wherever low pressure and high temperature inputs are required in an enclosed volume.

Portable flexible sealing device for grated openings

A novel design and construction method for the creation of a deployable flexible flood mitigation wall manufactured from textile and membrane materials. The flexible flood mitigation wall system comprises a textile/membrane wall and support posts configured to be movable between a stowed position and a deployed position and wherein, in the deployed position, the wall forms a leak-free barrier against flood water or other fluids. A series of posts that are manually deployed is used to support the fabric wall when hydrostatically challenged, and transfer loads to the ground. The wall is stored at the point of use in a surface box or trench box and keeps the loading from the flood water off the building, structure or equipment being protected. The flexible flood mitigation wall can be configured for use in many applications including entire buildings, building entrances, transit system passages such as ventilation shafts or elevator shafts, windows, stairwells, and other openings that can be threatened by flooding. It can be continuous such that it surrounds structures such as buildings and power substations, homes, or segmented, such that it can be used to seal openings of all kinds including human or vehicle doorways. It can be tailored to fit any opening and water height.

Deployable flexible flood mitigation wall

A novel extendible flexible flood barrier manufactured from textile and membrane materials has been developed which comprises a textile/membrane wall and support posts configured to be movable between a stowed position and a deployed position and wherein, in the deployed position, forms a leak-free barrier against flood water or other fluids. The flexible wall is stored in a container on one side of the opening to be protected and extended to the receiver on the opposite of the opening to deploy the barrier. Structural members, such as posts or a building itself will react to the load from the flood water impinging on the wall. Intermediate posts or bollards can be added to lengthen the wall so larger spans can be closed-off with the flexible wall. The flexible wall can be configured for use in many applications including entire buildings, building entrances, transit system passages, such as ventilation shafts or elevator shafts, stairwells, and other openings that can be threatened by flooding.

Extendible flexible flood barrier

A novel design and construction method for the creation of a Deployable Flexible Flood Mitigation Device manufactured from textile and membrane materials. The Flexible Flood Mitigation Device comprises a textile/membrane panel configured to be movable between an opened position and a closed position, wherein in the closed position, the panel forms a barrier against flood water; and a spool that is manually or electrically operated is used to move the panel from the closed position to the opened position. The spool can also be eliminated and the panel can be manually folded for storage. The Flexible Flood Mitigation Device can be configured for use in many applications including subway tunnels, vehicular tunnels, stairwells, ventilation shafts, and other openings that can be threatened by flooding. It can be used in any orientation (vertical, horizontal or at an angle with respect to gravity), and can stop fluids approaching from either side. It can also be shaped to fit any opening. Although its primary use is flood mitigation, the device is also applicable to containment of smoke from fire, chemical or biological agents, or other transient media.

Deployable flexible flood mitigation device

A boom structure deployed by inflating the structure to a desired shape and rigidizing the structure via an external influence. The structure frame has a series of frame members which are made of a fibrous material and a resin material. This frame is encased in between a pair of membrane layers, an inner membrane inflatable to move the frame into its desired shape and an outer membrane that allows for folding the structure. Following inflation of the inner layer, an external influence acts on the resin material to solidify it, and render the structure rigid. The external influence may also act on the resin material to soften it when it is already rigid, to allow for collapsing and folding of the structure.

Deployable space frame and method of deployment therefor

An inflatable structure, such as a fabric confining a gas, can be regulated as to its shape by the provision of auxiliary tubes, integral or adjacent to the fabric which can be separately pressurized. The separate pressurization will create local tensile forces to change the shape of the structure. Alternatively, a mechanical system, such as tensioned cables can be used to control the shape of the structure.

Method of linear actuation by inflation and apparatus therefor

A braking apparatus for imparting constant mechanical torque to effect a braking action is capable of operating in a constant, smooth, and adjustable manner, yet operates essentially independent of friction and temperature, as well as independent of rotational speed. The braking apparatus includes a hub assembly having a hub, a collar, a plurality of torsional springs, a spring cap, a spring bushing, and damping means, and a sprocket assembly having a sprocket, a hub bearing, a retaining ring, and a plurality of roller assemblies each of which has a roller. The sprocket assembly is rotatably connected to the hub assembly by a hub assembly spring, a sprocket assembly spring, an adjustment cap, and an adjustment means. The apparatus provides braking by releasably contacting at least one of each of the rollers with at least one of each of the torsional springs so as to deflect and then release the torsional spring as the sprocket assembly rotates about the hub assembly. The braking action is effected by transferring the energy of the rotating sprocket assembly into the oscillation of the torsional springs, and then from spring oscillation into heat by means of damping. The braking apparatus accomplishes a consistent braking torque essentially independent of friction by first loading the torsional spring, then decoupling the loaded spring from the braking torque. The decoupled spring is then allowed to dissipate its stored energy by self-damped oscillation at a rate that does not affect the braking torque. A specific degree of braking is provided by employing the adjustment means to adjust the separation distance between the sprocket assembly and the hub assembly, and thus the separation distance between the rollers and the torsional springs, thereby adjusting the amount of engagement between the rollers and the torsional springs. Applications of the braking apparatus include any service in which a compact, lightweight, mechanically reliable, smoothly-operating, and adjustable braking apparatus is required.
