A system for selectively providing power from a power source to a load to operate in an area for at least one occupant comprising a processing device for controlling the opening and closing of a relay connected between the load and the power source for energizing the load, and a sensor for detecting the presence of an occupant in the area. The processing device is programmable to close the relay in response to an output signal from the sensor for a period of time that can be of fixed duration, or a duration that is dynamically and automatically determined using sensor data relating to measure time between successive, detected occupant movements. In addition to a daylight inhibit function, the system is provided with color indicators and a tone generator to indicate various operating conditions and to guide a user entering selected system parameters, among other features.

A power supply circuit is provided for selectively connecting and disconnecting a load from an alternating current power source having neutral and line conductors which comprises a transformer having a primary winding connected to the load and a secondary winding, a relay connected at one terminal thereof to the primary winding and connected at another terminal thereof to the line conductor, a control circuit connected to the relay and operable to open and close the relay, the relay being operable to provide power to the load when closed and to disconnect the line conductor from the primary winding when open, a rectifier circuit connected in parallel with the secondary winding, and an air gap switching mechanism connected to the relay and the control circuit and operable to open the relay when the air gap switching mechanism is activated.

Two wire air gap off power supply

A three wire power supply circuit is provided for selectively connecting and disconnecting a load from an alternating current power source having neutral, line and ground conductors. The load is connected to the neutral conductor. The power supply circuit is provided with a relay connected at one terminal to the load and at another terminal to the line conductor, a control circuit connected to the relay and operable to open and close the relay, a first rectifier circuit connected in parallel with the relay and operable to supply as much as full line power to the control circuit when the relay is open, and a second rectifier circuit connected at one terminal to the line conductor and connected at another terminal to the ground conductor. The second rectifier circuit is operable to supply power to the control circuit regardless of the position of the relay. An air gap switching mechanism is connected to the relay and the control circuit and operable to open the relay when the air gap switching mechanism is activated. The power supply circuit is operable to provide pulsed power versus steady state power to selected circuit components that require more power than that available via a regulated supply.

A temperature and passive infrared sensor module comprising a sensor module housing having air flow vents therein in top and bottom or side surfaces to allow air to circulate through the sensor module housing. A temperature sensor is mounted in the sensor module housing in a position which is exposed to air circulating through the sensor module housing. A passive infrared sensor is also mounted in the sensor module housing in a manner in which it is not exposed to air circulating through the sensor module housing, such that it is not adversely affected thereby. In one embodiment, a foam block is positioned around to encase and isolate the passive infrared detector. In several embodiments, the passive infrared sensor and temperature sensor are mounted on opposite sides of the printed circuit board such that air circulates around the temperature sensor only on one side of the printed circuit board. In other embodiments, the passive infrared sensor and temperature are positioned on the same side of a printed circuit board, and a partition is positioned therebetween to prevent air circulating around the temperature sensor from reaching and circulating around the passive infrared sensor.

Temperature and passive infrared sensor module

A power supply circuit is provided for use in combination with a load and an alternating current (AC) power source for selectively connecting and disconnecting the load and the AC power source. The load is connected between a neutral conductor of the AC power source and the power supply circuit. The power supply circuit is connected to a power or hot line conductor and a ground conductor of the AC power source. The power supply circuit comprises relay connected in series between the load and the line conductor; a control circuit for selectively operating the relay; and a transformer. The primary winding of the transformer is connected in series with the line conductor and the ground conductor for supplying power to the control circuit even when the load is disconnected from the AC power source. The power supply circuit comprises a switch in series with the primary winding of the potential transformer for interrupting the primary winding current at frequencies above the AC line frequency. The power supply circuit can also comprise a slide or air gap switch to isolate the power supply circuit from the AC power source when the air gap switch is in the OFF position or to limit current to an acceptable level. The air gap switch can be configured to pulse the primary winding current above the accepted level.

Three wire power supply circuit

A three wire power supply circuit is provided comprising a circuit for monitoring the integrity of the ground connection of the power supply circuit. A circuit element is provided in the line-to-ground current path which conducts when current flows in the line-to-ground current path and is nonconductive when the ground connection is poor or absent. A microcontroller monitors the output of the circuit element and operates a buzzer or a light emitting diode to indicate when the ground connection is poor or absent.
