The insertion anchors are configured to be inserted at least partially into the at least one growth substrate and are mechanically coupled to the plurality of connecting members which form one or more openings therebetween.

Apparatus and method for preventing anaerobic root conditions

A backlight unit includes an array of light sources arranged on at least one printed circuit board, a reflective member including a plurality of holes provided over the array of light sources such that light from the light sources passes through the holes, and a gradient reflective layer provided over the reflective member to modify a distribution of light received from the array of light sources and the reflective member.

An illustrative refrigeration unit door includes a transparent window portion that receives light from a light source such that the light exhibits total internal reflection within the window portion. A series of uniformly-sized prisms with non-uniform spacing ejects light from one face of the transparent window portion at angles around 60 degrees and 30 degrees. Collimated light can be used to reduce the amount of light ejected from a second face of the transparent window that is opposite the first face.

Each light flux control member includes a bottom surface section disposed on the first or second substrate, a non-rotationally symmetric input surface section having an inward recess disposed in the bottom surface section at a position directly above one of the light-emitting elements, and a non-rotationally symmetric output surface configured to refract light passing through the input surface section, and to transmit light outside. The light flux control members disposed on the first substrate are spaced 100 mm apart from each other in a first direction, and the light-emitting elements are spaced 23 mm away from the film stack.

Illumination lens for LED backlights

An illumination lens includes a light incident surface that defines a cavity and has a flat top and lateral flanks, the light incident surface configured to receive light from an underlying light emitting element. The illumination lens also includes a light exiting surface having a central indentation and a surrounding toroid. The flat top has an angular range of 0 to 25&#xb0; with respect to a vertical optical axis and faces the central indentation.

A light-emitting diode (LED) backlight unit includes first and second curved bottom floor reflectors exhibiting mirror image symmetry along a center line extending in a latitudinal direction, first and second sides disposed along a longitudinal direction, the first and second bottom floor reflectors disposed therebetween, first and second back reflectors disposed on distal ends of the first and second bottom floor reflectors, respectively, away from the center line, and LEDs disposed in or adjacent to the first and second back reflectors. An illumination tens includes a light incident surface that defines a cavity and has a flat top surface and lateral flanks, the light incident surface configured to receive light from an underlying light emitting element, a light exiting surface having a central indentation and surrounding toroid, and a bottom surface connecting the light incident surface and the light exiting surface. The lateral flank includes a first region extending from the top surface and a second region extended from the first region, the second region is a curved surface, of which the center of the curvature thereof lies on the illumination lens, an intersection of the second region and a horizontal optical axis forms a first point, and the first point is disposed lower than a second point where the bottom surface and the light exiting surface intersect.

A light-emitting diode (LED) backlight unit includes a housing, an LED array disposed on a bottom surface of the housing, an optical film stack disposed on the LED array, and a baffled micro-optical element (BMOE) disposed between the LED array and the optical film stack. The thickness of the backlight unit is 12 mm or less, a first portion of light emitted from each LED of the LED array is configured to directly contact the optical film stack and a second portion of light emitting from each LED of the LED array is configured to be reflected off of the BMOE and onto the optical film stack, and the first and second portions of light combine to create surface illuminance on the optical film stack having a uniformity greater than 70%.

Baffled micro-optical elements for thin liquid crystal display backlight units

Exemplary embodiments of the present invention relate to an illumination lens disposed over a light-emitting diode (LED). The illumination lens includes an internal surface surrounding the LED and configured to intercept light emitted by the LED, wherein the internal surface comprises an arch-shaped non-rotationally symmetric, elongated horizontal cross-section. The illumination lens also includes an external surface comprising a central cusp, the external surface extending laterally with non-axially-symmetrical profiles in different horizontal directions, the non-axially-symmetric profiles being elliptical with respect to a tilted major axis of the illumination lens, wherein the light-emitting device is configured to produce an elongated illumination pattern.

A circular LED illumination lens for short throw lighting, for example, as part of a set of such devices installed on mullions in reach-in refrigerator cabinets, to uniformly light access across the rectangular door and shelves. The lens has an upper surface with a cavity for the LED, an upper surface the shape of a toroid, generated by an elliptical arc, that serves to magnify the light rays from the LED in an outboard direction, and the minor axis tilted about 17 degrees relatives the center axis of the LED which serves to direct the rays at the center of the shelves. The upper surface also preferably includes a spherical dimple to direct light away from the center axis.

Wide-angle non-imaging illumination lens arrayable for close planar targets

Exemplary embodiments of the present invention relate to wide-angle illumination patterns for short-throw lighting. An illumination lens according to an exemplary embodiment includes a light incident surface that defines a cavity and has a flat top and lateral flanks, the light incident surface being configured to receive light from an underlying light emitting element. The illumination lens also includes a light exiting surface having a central indentation and a surrounding toroid, wherein the flat top faces the central indentation.

A light source is disclosed. The light source includes a primary excitation source configured to emit electromagnetic radiation at a first peak wavelength and a band of wavelengths around the first peak wavelength. A secondary emitter conversion element is optically coupled to the primary excitation source and is configured to absorb at least a portion the electromagnetic radiation at the first peak wavelength from the primary excitation source and emit electromagnetic radiation at a second peak wavelength and a band of wavelengths around the second peak wavelength. The second peak wavelength is longer than the first peak wavelength. A non-imaging optical coupler is optically coupled to the secondary emitter conversion element. An optical system includes the light source optically coupled to a transparent rod.
