An exemplary embodiment of a fishing reel includes a reel frame for supporting a line spool with a spool rotation axis, the line spool rotatably mounted one the reel frame. A reel foot is adapted for mounting to a fishing rod, wherein the reel foot is attached to the frame. A force measurement device is configured to produce a response indicative of a line tension force.

Reel system with line tension measurement capability

One exemplary embodiment of the invention is a translation stage including a receiving portion adapted to receive a fishing reel, a mounting portion adapted for mounting to a fishing pole, wherein the receiving portion is movably affixed to said mounting portion along a first direction; and a force measurement device configured to produce a response indicative of the force between the base portion and the mounting portion along the first direction. Another embodiment is a fishing reel including a frame for supporting a line spool, a base portion, a line spool rotatably mounted within the frame, a mounting portion adapted for mounting to a fishing pole, the base portion is movably affixed to the mounting portion along a first direction; and a force measurement device.

Line tension measuring device

Exemplary embodiments of force measurement systems are disclosed. In one embodiment, the force measurement system is implemented in a fishing rod system, to measure tension applied to the fishing line. Other exemplary embodiments include a fishing gaff used to gaff fish, and with a measurement system for providing an indication of the weight of a gaffed fish. Yet another embodiment is implemented in a fishing net, with a measurement system for providing an indicated of the weight of a netted fish or other netted object. A still further application for the force measurement system is in a shaft tension coupler.

Force measurement system

An exemplary embodiment of Ihe invention is a fishing reel seat including a reel mounting mechanism having a longitudinal axis configured for firmly attaching a fishing reel, and a reel mount receiving portion, wherein the reel mounting mechanism is configured to move in a substantially longitudinal direction with respect to the reel mount receiving portion in response to an externally generated force. The force measurement device includes a sensor configured to produce a response, in operational mode, indicative of the externally generated force based in the movement of the reel mounting mechanism with respect to the reel mount receiving portion.

The invention is a fishing system comprising a fishing pole with a force measuring device coupled to a transmitter. The transmitter broadcasts a signal including a representation of the force measured by the force measuring device. The fishing system includes a receiver configured to receive the transmitted force data generated by the fishing pole or poles. The receiver may be configured to display, store, or process force data received from said fishing pole or multiple fishing poles.

Fishing system with remote monitoring capablity

The invention is a fishing pole with an integrated line tension measuring device. Measured line tension is displayed in quantitative units, pounds or kilograms. A line tension warning system activates when the sensed line tension exceeds a threshold set by the fisherman. The line tension measuring device does not touch the fishing line so the fishing pole with integrated line tension measuring device fishes and operates like a normal fishing pole. The line tension measuring device may be integrated into the fishing reel seat which, in turn, is an integral part of the fishing pole.
