A method for attenuating vibration in a driveline having a shaft assembly that transmits torque between first and second driveline components. The shaft assembly can have a hollow shaft member and at least one liner. The liner has a mass and a stiffness that are tuned such that the liner is a tuned resistive absorber for attenuating shell mode vibrations as well as at least one of a tuned reactive absorber for attenuating bending mode vibrations and a tuned reactive absorber for attenuating torsion mode vibrations. The tuned liner is inserted into the shaft member.

Method for attenuating driveline vibrations

A driveline with a shaft and a vibration damper coupled to the shaft. The damper includes a hub, a first mass, a first resilient coupling, a second mass, and a second resilient coupling. The first mass is disposed concentrically about the hub. The first resilient coupling resiliently couples the first mass to the hub. The first resilient coupling has a first spring constant. The second mass is disposed concentrically about the first mass. The second resilient coupling resiliently couples the second mass directly to the first mass. The second resilient coupling has a second spring constant that is less than the first spring constant. The first mass and the first resilient coupling are configured to attenuate vibration at a first frequency. The second mass and the second resilient coupling are configured to attenuate vibration at a second frequency. The second frequency is lower than the first frequency.

Dual-tuned vibration damper and method for damping vibrations in a power transmission system using a dual-tuned vibration damper

A method for damping torsional vibrations in a rotating shaft. The method includes coupling an actuator to a shaft; rotating the shaft; determining an amount of torsional vibration in the shaft; and controlling the actuator in response to the amount of torsional vibration and a rotational position of the shaft to damp the torsional vibration in the shaft.

Torsional active vibration control system

A method for evaluating energy transmission from an axle through a vehicle suspension system. The methodology employs a torsional actuator to apply input energy to the vehicle in a manner that mimics the energy that is generated by the axle during the operation of the vehicle so that both the driving load and the vibration induced by gearset motion variation are simulated. Since the energy input can be quantified and monitored, the same amount of torque can be applied during each test to permit the technician to fully comprehend differences in the designs of several axles on the transmission of noise and vibration.

Torsional actuation NVH test method

A damper mechanism for absorbing torsional vibrations in a rotating shaft. The damper mechanism includes a vibration absorbing mechanism and at least one actuator that is controllable to affect the torsional vibration absorbing characteristics of the vibration absorbing mechanism.

A shaft structure and at least two non-identical inserts. The shaft structure has a cavity and vibrates in response to the receipt of an input of a predetermined frequency such that at least two second bending mode anti-nodes are generated in spaced relation to one another along the longitudinal axis of the shaft structure. Each of the inserts is disposed within the longitudinally extending cavity at a position that approximately corresponds to an associated one of the anti-nodes. A method for attenuating noise transmission from a vehicle driveline is also disclosed.

Propshaft assembly with vibration attenuation and assembly method therefor

A drivetrain component assembly comprising a drivetrain structure, means for generating a reference signal indicative of a frequency with which the drivetrain structure vibrates during operation of the drivetrain structure, at least one actuator coupled to the drivetrain structure, at least one sensor operable for monitoring vibrations transmitted from the drivetrain structure and producing a sensor signal in response thereto and a controller coupled to the at least one actuator and the at least one sensor. The controller receives the sensor and reference signals and generates an actuator signal in response thereto. The at least one actuator receives the actuator signal and generates a canceling vibration in the drivetrain structure in response thereto. The canceling vibration has a predetermined frequency and amplitude to substantially cancel-out vibrations in a predetermined bandwidth that are generated during the operation of the drivetrain structure. A method for analyzing the effect of a drivetrain component on a level of noise, vibration and harshness transmitted to a vehicle passenger compartment is also provided.

Active vibration cancellation of gear mesh vibration

A shaft structure and at least two insert members. The shaft structure has a longitudinally extending cavity and is configured to vibrate in response to the receipt of an input of a predetermined frequency such that at least two second bending mode anti-nodes are generated in spaced relation to one another along the longitudinal axis of the shaft structure. The insert members are disposed within the longitudinally extending cavity and engage an inner wall of the shaft structure. Each of the insert members is located at a position that approximately corresponds to an associated one of the anti-nodes and has a density that is tailored to an anticipated displacement of the associated anti-node. A method for attenuating noise transmission from a vehicle driveline is also disclosed.
