An unmanned aerial vehicle detector includes an unmanned aerial vehicle, a pump/detector combination on the unmanned aerial vehicle and a tube including a rigid section and a flexible section. The tube is connected at a proximal end to the pump/detector combination. The pump/detector combination is configured to draw gas samples from a distal end of the tube to the detector and to detect a level of a gas drawn from within a prescribed distance above ground level.

A system for cooling a heat generating enclosure includes a first array of one or more fans of a first size and a second array of one or more fans of a second size, where the second array is in series to the first array. The system also includes a measuring unit configured to measure at least one process variable. The method further includes measuring a process variable. The method also includes calculating a cooling strategy based at least in part on the value of the process variable. The method further includes setting the speed of each fan in the first array of fans or the speed of each fan in a second array of fans, wherein the second array of fans is in series to the first array of fans and each fan in the second array of fans is a second size, and wherein the speed of each fan that is set in the first or second array is set to implement the cooling strategy.

Method for controlling heat transfer between two objects. In one embodiment, the method includes providing a first current through a first electromagnet disposed about a container holding magnetorheological fluid to generate a first magnetic field such that particles in the magnetorheological fluid align with the first magnetic field to conductively couple a first conductive element to a second conductive element; and providing a second current through a second electromagnet disposed perpendicular to the first electromagnet to generate a second magnetic field perpendicular to the first magnetic field such that the particles in the magnetorheological fluid align with the second magnetic field to conductively uncouple the first conductive member from the second conductive member.

A method for assembling an integrated circuit device includes positioning a thermal interface material (TIM) on top of an electronic component, positioning a load frame onto a printed circuit board, the load frame having an open region for the electronic component to extend through, and positioning a heat sink onto the TIM. The method further comprises fastening a first screw fastener, resulting in a TIM bond line between the heat sink and the electronic component, and actuating a second screw fastener disposed within a bore of the heat sink and threaded into the load frame. The second screw fastener, upon being tightened expands radially to lock the heat sink into the load frame. The first screw fastener, upon the tightening of the second screw fastener, connects the heat sink and the load frame to the printed circuit board.

Method and apparatus for controlling heat transfer between two objects. In one embodiment, an apparatus for controlled heat transfer is disclosed herein. The apparatus includes a first and second conductive elements, a container of magnetorheological fluid disposed between the first and second conductive elements, an electromagnet disposed about the container, wherein the electromagnet is configured to produce a magnetic field within the container of magnetorheological fluid and conductively couple the first and second conductive elements, and at least one biasing element wherein the biasing element is coupled to the first conductive element and is configured to move the first conductive element relative to the container to conductively couple and uncouple the first conductive element and the second conductive element.

A fan assembly system includes two or more circular fans, each fan situated in a round fan assembly, where each fan can be situated in the round fan assembly in any orientation. The system also includes a concentrically symmetric connector for each circular fan, located in a center of each circular fan. The system also includes a latching mechanism for each circular fan, where the latching mechanism is wholly contained within a swept area of a fan blade of the circular fan. The circular fans are arranged in a staggered arrangement, and the staggered arrangement of circular fans increases a number of circular fans that can be placed in the fan assembly system compared to a non-staggered arrangement.

Cooling systems employing adjacent fan cages having cage walls with interflow passages are disclosed. A cooling system includes cooling fans disposed in adjacent fan cages. Cage walls of the fan cages direct flows from the fans to the outlet ports of the fan cages which are in fluid communication with electrical components within an electronics-containing enclosure. By forming an interflow passage between the adjacent fan cages, upon occurrence of an inoperable fan, a portion of the flow from an adjacent operable fan can pass to the outlet port of the fan cage of the inoperable fan via the passage and provide better cooling of the components impacted by the inoperable fan. In this manner, thermal damage is avoided while minimizing fan noise associated with higher fan speeds.

In one embodiment, the method includes flowing a current through an electromagnet disposed about a container holding magnetorheological fluid to bias a first conductive element against a first end of the container and a second conductive element against a second end of the container to align particles in the magnetorheological fluid such that first conductive element is conductively coupled to the second conductive element; and reducing the current through an electromagnet such that the first conductive element is biased away from the first end of the container and the second conductive element is biased away from the second end of the container to break the alignment of the particles in the magnetorheological fluid such that the first conductive element is not conductively coupled to the second conductive element.
