An anhydrous ammonia vapor charge unit for an applicator tank maintains a pressure charge on an applicator tank. A secondary anhydrous ammonia tank is disposed adjacent to the applicator tank. Ammonia vapor from the secondary tank is passed through a vapor compressor and then is injected into the applicator tank to provide a greater pressure charge within the applicator tank. In a second embodiment, a small portion of a liquid flow stream of ammonia being removed from the applicator tank is separated from the flow stream, passed through a heat vaporizer for expanding from a liquid to a gas, passed through a vapor pressure, and then is injected into the applicator tank for maintaining the pressure charge on the applicator tank. Preferably the heat vaporizer used hydraulic fluid from a tractor to heat the anhydrous ammonia.

A flow dividing manifold () divides a flow of anhydrous ammonia having both liquid and gas phases into separate flow paths. The manifold () has a first mixing nozzle () for concentrating the flow of the anhydrous ammonia in a first direction () against a first enclosed end () of a first mixing chamber (). A second mixing nozzle () concentrating the flow of anhydrous ammonia in a second direction () orthogonal to the first direction () and against a second enclosed end () of a second mixing chamber (). A flow divider structure () is disposed about an outward end of the second mixing chamber () and has a plurality of flow ports () which are angularly spaced around and extend orthogonal to the second flow direction () through the second mixing nozzle ().

An ammonia excess flow valve has a seal ring (24) slidably positioned around at least two retainer vertical members (22B). A disk (26) has a disk central opening (26A) and a disk pin opening (26B) therethrough. The disk (26) is positioned adjacent to and below a retainer (22). A conduit (28) sealably connected to the disk (26) over the disk pin opening (26B) extends upwardly therefrom. The conduit (28) functions to permit the ammonia excess flow valve (10) to be reset by equalizing pressures on both sides of the disk (26) once excess flow that trips the ammonia excess flow valve (10) is remedied, minimizing creation of vapor.

A device receives a volatile fluid, then separates the vapor phase portion from the liquid phase portion in a separation chamber, and then provides separate paths from the separation chamber to a selective outlet ring across liquid and gas orifices for each outlet in the ring, where the divided gas and liquid are recombined, thereby enhancing the equal distribution of the fluid.

An apparatus for dividing the vapor and liquid components of a two-phased flow of anhydrous ammonia includes an upper chamber, a lower chamber and a partition member interposed between the upper and lower chambers. The partition member includes walls defining an aperture between the upper and lower chambers. At least one vapor outlet extends through the top of the upper chamber, at least one liquid outlet extends through the bottom of the lower chamber, and at least one two-phase inlet extends through the lower chamber disposed to admit two-phase flow in tangential relation to an internal surface of the lower chamber.
