A seating arrangement in which a modular seat/console that moves between a first space between front seats, an intermediate position, and a second space between rear seats. The seat/console may function as a seat in the second space, or in the intermediate position. In the intermediate position, the seat/console in the seat configuration may advantageously be used to support a child safety seat. The seat/console may also be configured as a console in either the rear seat, intermediate, or front seat positions. The seat/console is provided with an adjustable height support.

Seating arrangement for a vehicle

A center seat console that moves between a forward position between front seats, an intermediate position, and a rear position between rear seats is disclosed. The seat/console may function as a seat in the rear seat position, or in the intermediate position. In the intermediate position, the seat/console in the seat configuration may advantageously be used to support a child safety seat. The seat/console may also be configured as a console in either the rear seat, intermediate, or front seat positions. The seat/console is provided with an adjustable height support that permits the seat/console to be lowered to fit beneath arm rests assembled to the front seats when it is desired to place the console between the front seats.

Modular seat/console for a vehicle

An automotive vehicle seat includes a seat back and a seat bottom. The seat back and seat bottom are carried by bracketry. The seat back is foldable relative to the seat bottom. As the seat back folds toward the seat bottom, the seat bottom moves away from a rear of the bracketry. Once folded, the seat back, seat bottom and bracketry may tumble toward a front of a vehicle.

Automotive vehicle seat system and method of folding and tumbling same

A vehicle seat assembly is attached to a floor attachment bracket by pivoted front and rear leg assemblies is disclosed. A seat base frame, the floor attachment bracket and the front and rear leg assemblies form a four bar link that support the seat assembly on a floor pan of a vehicle. The floor pan defines a stowage well in which the seat assembly may be selectively stored. The four bar link may be rotated to a limited extent when the seat back frame is in its normal seating position to provide a tip and kneel position. In the tip and kneel position the seat is disposed intermediate the seating position and fully stowed position with the seat back upright to provide improved ingress and egress to areas of the vehicle behind the seat assembly.

Vehicle seat that tips and kneels and folds into a stowage well

The present disclosure involves a vehicle seat connection assembly having a seat back frame connecting to a seat bottom frame by a hinge member. The seat back frame has a leg which extends to an end portion wherein the end portion is hollow and has an aperture transversely formed therethrough. The end portion has an indented wall formed about the aperture and terminates at an opening. A securing member is disposed at the end portion through the aperture. The hinge member has a pivotal end attached to the seat bottom frame and a prong end having first and second spaced apart prongs which are disposed through the opening of the end portion. The prongs flank the securing member and engage the indented wall of the end portion of the seat back frame. The indented wall of the end portion is formed to complement the shape of the prongs to provide sufficient surface area support.

Vehicle seat connection assembly

A method for producing a U shaped seat back frame from a single extruded blank. The blank's cross section is nearly circular, but with a pair of short, flattened off crests that create a pair of concentric arcs, in cross section. Over a length of each end of the blank, a rectangular cross section, solid mandrel is inserted between the crests and the arcs are flattened against the mandrel. The arcs are flattened into wider side walls, while the crests move apart, without deformation, to create narrower and stiffer walls of a rectangular cross section. Lastly, the U blank with flattened ends is bent into a U shape, creating an upper beam with a nearly circular cross section, and legs with truly flat and rectangular lower ends.

Method for extruding integral seat back frame

A vehicle seat is providing including a seat bottom frame; a generally U-shaped seat back frame with an upper cross member with legs pivotally mounted with respect to the seat bottom frame, the seat back cross member being generally at least approximately 470 millimeters along a line generally parallel to the torso of a seated occupant from an H point of the seated occupant, and the cross member being concavely bowed if under approximately 525 millimeters from the H point of the seated occupant; and a deformable lower cross member having ends fixably connected to the seat back legs being concavely bowed, the cross member having a major dimension oriented generally parallel to the torso of the seated occupant, the lower cross member having an upper and a lower end, the lower cross member upper end being vertically above the H point of a seated occupant when the seat back frame is positioned in a normal seating position and where in a rear crash situation, the lower cross member deforms to pivot its lower end further away from the seat back frame legs than its top end to capture the seated occupant's pelvic region between the lower cross member and the bottom frame.
