A device, system and method for communicating between devices using two protocols is provided. A request is received from a first device to communicate with a second device. A dedicated client operates according to a first protocol. A call server is operated according to a second protocol. An identifier is provided to the second device for requesting a web application for conducting a call via the call server, the identifier associated with the first and second device. A request, including the identifier is received and the web application is provided to the second device. A first call is set up between the dedicated client and a respective dedicated client. A second call is set up between the call server and the web application at the second device. The first call and the second call are connected to conduct an end-to-end call between the first and second device.

Device, system and method for communicating between devices using two protocols

A method and apparatus are provided for controlling network access in a wireless communication system. An infrastructure device, which may reside in, or be communicatively coupled to, any of an access network, a core network, and a service network, implements a device class prioritization control function (DCP-CF) that receives a geographical location of an incident, determines one or more of a cell and an access node corresponding to the geographical location, determines one or more access class barring parameters for the cell and/or access node, determines whether to enable access class barring at the cell and/or access node and, in response to determining to enable access class barring at the cell and/or access node, provides the one or more access class barring parameters to the cell and/or access node.

Method and apparatus for controlling network access in a wireless communication system

Disclosed herein are methods and systems for allocating resources from component carriers to a public-safety mobile radio. An embodiment takes the form of a process that is carried out by carried out by a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) Evolved Node B (eNodeB). The eNodeB makes a first determination to allocate resources to a given mobile radio. The eNodeB makes a second determination that the given mobile radio is a public-safety mobile radio. In response to making the first and second determinations, the eNodeB selects, based on one or more public-safety-communication criteria, a component carrier from among a plurality of component carriers managed by the eNodeB. The eNodeB allocates resources on the selected eNodeB component carrier to the given mobile radio.

Methods and systems for allocating resources from component carriers to a public-safety mobile radio

Methods are described that enable host devices of a multicast IP network to reliably join multicast group address(es) in talkgroup or point-to-point calls. For a talkgroup call, a sourcing host sends 'hello' packets or payload to one or more network devices, addressed to a multicast group address. The receiving host issues a join command to the one or more network devices in an attempt to reliably join the multicast group address. If any packets are received by the receiving host within a designated time period associated with the attempt, the receiving host is reliably joined to the multicast group address. For a point-to-point call, a controller sends a pair of multicast group addresses, one designated for sourcing packets and the other designated for receiving packets, to a first and second host participating in the point-to-point call. The designated 'source' and &#x201c;receive&#x201d; multicast group address are complementary for the first and second hosts. When the first or second host is acting as a source, it sends hello packets or payload addressed to its designated &#x201c;source&#x201d; multicast group address. When the first or second host is acting as a receiver, it attempts to join its designated &#x201c;receive&#x201d; multicast group address. The first or second host acting as a receiver knows that it is reliably joined to its designated &#x201c;receive&#x201d; multicast group address if it receives any packets addressed to that address within a designated time period.

Methods for achieving reliable joins in a multicast IP network

Methods are disclosed for determining a link Op from among a plurality of host devices on a LAN, for exchanging control messages between a communication server and one or more sites having a link Op and a listening Op and for the link Op and/or listening Op to detect and recover from missing packets in a sequence of IP packets received from the server. The link Op and listening Op join a control multicast group address to receive control messages from the server. The link Op establishes a reliable message transfer session with the server. Upon the link Op detecting a missing packet, the link Op may request that the communication server resend the packet. Upon the listening Op detecting a missing packet, the listening Op determines whether the link Op will request retransmission of the missing packet. If the link Op is determined to not request retransmission of the missing packet, the listening Op requests retransmission of the missing packet or accepts the packet as missing and processes an out-of-sequence packet. If the link Op is determined to request retransmission of the missing packet, the listening Op discards the packet and relies upon the link Op to request retransmission of the missing packet.

Methods for reliably sending IP multicast packets to multiple endpoints of a local area network

Methods for reserving call units of bandwidth and for using the reserved call units to manage call requests are disclosed. Reservations are requested by a first host device (e.g., zone controller) for a path of a packet network communication system. The reservations are granted or denied by the network based on the availability of the requested bandwidth. Once a reservation has been obtained, the number of call units of bandwidth associated with the reservation may be reduced or increased by the network based, for example, on link failures, repairs, etc. Call requests are granted or denied by the zone controller based on the path(s) needed for the call, the number of reserved call units associated with the path(s) and the amount of call units required to support the call. If there are sufficient reserved call units to support the call, the call may proceed by sending, from a second host device (e.g., repeater), a message that is distributed over the number of units of bandwidth needed for the call.

Method for managing bandwidth in a packet-based communication system using call unit reservations

A communication system (200) employs a method and apparatus for performing diversity voting in the communication system. A comparator (206) receives a signal frame (207-209) of code words from each of multiple signal sources (202-204). A prioritized code word of each signal frame occupies a corresponding frame position and has a respective signal quality metric associated therewith. The comparator determines whether each signal quality metric accurately represents the signal quality of its respective prioritized code word. When the signal quality metrics do not accurately represent the signal qualities of their respective prioritized code words, the comparator determines a supplemental signal quality metric for each prioritized code word. The comparator then selects one prioritized code word from all the corresponding prioritized code words based on a comparison of the supplemental signal quality metrics for input into the corresponding frame position of a voted signal frame (330).

The present invention encompasses a method of facilitating an audio source change in a digital radio communication system (100). A typical system includes a plurality of audio source units ( 101-103), a plurality of audio destination units (105, 106), and a switching unit (108) for rendering one of the plurality of audio source units (101-103) operable. Upon receipt (302) of an information-bearing frame from an audio source unit, a frame sequence value is identified (304). The expected frame sequence value is then determined (306), and this value is compared to the identified frame sequence value to determine whether or not the received frame sequence value matches the expected frame sequence value. When the frame sequence values match, it is assumed that the frames were sourced from the same audio source unit (i.e., no source change has occurred). When a mismatch is detected, a source change indication is transmitted by the audio destination units to the communication unit (310), thereby facilitating the audio source change.
