Tracking fluid displacement along a wellbore using real time temperature measurements. A method of tracking fluid displacement along a wellbore includes the steps of: monitoring temperature in real time in the wellbore; and observing in real time a variation in temperature gradient between fluid compositions in the wellbore. Another method of tracking fluid displacement along a wellbore includes the steps of: monitoring temperature along the wellbore; and observing a variation in temperature gradient due to a chemical reaction in the wellbore. Another method includes the step of causing a variation in temperature gradient in the fluid while the fluid flows in the wellbore.

Tracking fluid displacement along a wellbore using real time temperature measurements

Methods of forming one or more plugs in a well bore are provided. The methods basically comprise the steps of dropping into the well bore a cementitious material which will delayedly react with water therein to form an impermeable solid and which has been formed into agglomerates of sufficient weight to sink through the water and other fluids and materials in the well bore. The agglomerates are dropped in a quantity sufficient to form a mass of the agglomerates in the well bore. Thereafter, the mass of agglomerates is allowed to react with the water in the well bore and set into an impermeable solid plug therein.

This invention relates to a method of repairing holes, channels, voids and microannuli in a cement sheath situated in the annular space between a casing and the wall of a wellbore penetrating a subterranean earth formation, which method involves the use of a hydraulic cement consisting of discrete particles having a particle size not greater than about 30 microns. This invention relates to a method of terminating the undesirable flow of fluid through a gravel pack in a wellbore, or from a highly permeable portion of or fracture in a subterranean formation into a wellbore, which method involves the use of a hydraulic cement consisting of discrete particles having a particle size not greater than about 30 microns. The cement, which is utilized in either a slurry of water or hydrocarbon liquid, has a low density, good thixotropic properties and, in one embodiment, expansive characteristics.
